octave opens GUI when I type "octave" in terminal - octave

I have a problem:
installed octave and do not know why, every time I type octave in the terminal opens the GUI interface (gui --force-octave) Octave and not the terminal octave as is right. how can I fix this?

If you have Octave 4.0, the GUI is the default:
** A graphical user interface is now the default when running Octave interactively. The start-up option --no-gui will run the familiar command line interface...
https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/NEWS-4.0.html

You can add this alias octave='octave --no-gui' to your ~/.bashrc file and every time you type octave, it opens in your terminal.
Good luck

running java program in IntelliJ terminal

Below is a screenshot of IntelliJ on my computer with a terminal up.
I thought I should be able to just type java random_uniformin the terminal to run the program but it complains withe the error message shown in the screenshot.
I have looked at similar questions to mine but still wasn't able to resolve the issue.
The terminal in IntelliJ is just your shell (if you're on unix) and cmd.exe-like command prompt (if you're on Windows). There's no magic.
So to run program in terminal you need to compile it as usually and run binary.
Here is an answer about how to compile Java program

Octave gets stuck on Busy... inside TeXmacs in Windows OS

I have TeXmacs and Octave installed, both working properly otherwise. I have also added the path to octave executable (i.e. C:\Octave\Octave-5.1.0.0\mingw64\bin) to the Windows environment variables and octave runs in cmd/PowerShell terminals and Jupyter with no hassle. However, when running Octave inside TeXmacs through Toolbar > insert > session > octave it gets stuck on Busy..., the same reaction for any other commands as well:
Octave gets stuk on Busy... inside TeXmacs.
This is my environment:
TeXmacs 1.99.9
Octave 5.1.0 (installed through Chocolatey)
Windows 10 version 1809
I would appreciate if you could help me know what is the problem and how I can solve it.
P.S. I have reported this issue in the TeXmacs repo.
#Foad. I wrote an updated Octave plugin for Texmacs. I tried it on Windows, OSX and Linux, works on the systems I have access to. If you are interested to test it, you can download the zipped archive from here https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/texmacs-dev/2019-12/msg00005.html.
To install it, unzip the archive and copy the octaveX directory in the application plugins folder, alongside all the plugins that come with the standard Texmacs installation. Won’t work if installed in ~/.Texmacs/plugins. If everything goes fine, you should find a new Insert/Session/OctaveX menu (note: I changed the session name). If not, try to refresh the plugin system with the menu Tools/Update/Plugins. If you try it, please let me know, especially if you find troubles. In case I will do my best to fix them.
A fundamental prerequisite is a working octave-cli command in a operating system shell. Should be standard on Linux, may require some additional setup on Windows (environmental variables) or OSX (.bash_profile). You can find some help and more details under the menu Help/Plug-ins/OctaveX.
Concerning the error you found, as far I understand there are some issues with the standard distributed plugin: first, a .octaverc file is missing, so several variables are not initialized, in addition the Windows version calls a not existent file. Moreover the plotting functions are quite old and are not compatibile with Octave newer than version 2 (or maybe 3, anyway a quite old version).
You could try to run the command in
%TEXMACS_PATH%/plugins/octave/bin/tm_octave.bat
from the terminal to see what happens. There is a problem with this plugin and it does not work also on Mac but I do not know enough Octave to fix it. Somehow it does not manage to find the files which are in
%TEXMACS_PATH%/plugins/octave/octave
Please try to modify tm-start.m to look like
d=getenv("TEXMACS_PATH");
if (length(d) > 0)
addpath("tm:polynomial:plot")
tmrepl
endif
In windows, octave should be run using the scripts octave.bat (in the mingw64\bin directory of the octave install) or octave.vbs (in the install directory) for the GUI
You should not run octave.exe directly.

Scilab, backdoor error, octave conflict

I installed scilab.6.0.0 and backdoor fromscilab website (which I could not find it from Application>Module maneger>atom>Technical). I moved the backdoor file my home and from scilab command line I installed it
-->atomsInstall('/home/user/BackDoor_0.2_5.5.bin.x86_64.linux.tar.gz')
Even though, it installed backdoor successfully, when I restart the scilab I got this error message with backdoor
Start Toolbox BackDoor
Load macros
atomsLoad: An error occurred while loading 'BackDoor-0.2':
lib: Old binary lib detected. Please recompile it for Scilab 6.
As I understand I need to update the library, but I don't know how?
Would sb tell me explicitly (because I am a newbie user of scilab) how can I get over the error?
at the and I try to connect octave and scilab and when I try to run a demo script at octave I get also this error
>> sci_sim_example
Scilab connection failed
FYI: I already installed sci_cosim package (after I downloaded the package, I write to octave prompt >>pkg install sci_cosim_0.1.3.tar.gz), and I load it before running the script.
How can I recompile the lib: Old binary lib detected
Thank you so much for your help in advance
Here's what worked for me.
Download Scilab 5.5.2 (link for Linux 64bit version)
Extract the .tar.gz file in your preferred system location to install it there. Generally, my preferred location to extract / install self-contained packages is inside /opt .
You can extract the .tar.gz file using your filebrowser's graphical facilities, or on the command line; if /opt is owned by root (which it usually is) you may need to change ownership after extraction. E.g. your installation might look something like this:
cd /opt
sudo wget http://www.scilab.org/download/5.5.2/scilab-5.5.2.bin.linux-x86_64.tar.gz
sudo tar -xvzf ./scilab-5.5.2.bin.linux-x86_64.tar.gz
sudo rm scilab-5.5.2.bin.linux-x86_64.tar.gz
sudo chown $USER ./scilab-5.5.2 -R
Launch scilab by typing
/opt/scilab-5.5.2/bin/scilab &
in your terminal.
Once scilab is launched, go to Applications->Module Manager ATOMS. In the new window that comes up, click on All modules -> BackDoor -> Install.
You should get a message saying "Installation done, please restart SciLab".
Exit Scilab, and launch it again from the terminal. If you see a message:
atomsLoad: An error occurred while loading 'BackDoor-0.2':
File "/opt/scilab-5.5.2/share/scilab/contrib/BackDoor/0.2/etc/backdoor.start" does not exist.
then type the following commands in your terminal to rename the affected files:
cd /opt/scilab-5.5.2/share/scilab/contrib/BackDoor/0.2/etc/
mv BackDoor.start backdoor.start
mv BackDoor.quit backdoor.quit
Restart SciLab again. Hopefully this time it will work and SciLab will inform you that BackDoor is listening for connections at a certain port.
PS. Also note that from the octave side of things, the -auto option is no longer accepted when you perform a pkg install. You will need to load the sockets and sci_cosim packages manually each time you want to use this.

MonoDevelop's debugger and xterm/gnome-terminal

I am using Xubuntu 15.04. I tried to run a basic console app using MonoDevelop, the latest one. I did a new project and this appears when I try to debug it:
Could not connect to the debugger
I googled for answers and I found out that there is a problem with the gnome-terminal, that it no longer accepts the --disable-factory argument and something about unchecking the "Run on external console". I unchecked that and when I press to run, it closed it immediately.
Try executing MonoDevelop as sudo
$ sudo monodevelop
It takes Xterm as output terminal emulator.
EDIT
Run Monodevelop as root can be a BIG mistake.
Best way is to write an script that unsets GNOME desktop session and run monodevelop, as Oskar says.
Try this one (copy and paste it on vim/nano and save as monodevelop.sh)
#!/bin/bash
unset GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID
monodevelop
Put it on your home (for example) and give it execution permissions:
chmod +x ./monodevelop.sh
When you want to run it, execute ./monodevelop.sh. Or you can add it as GNOME shell application following this guide.

Hart'ls Ruby Tutorial - Subl Gemfile not recognized

I'm brand new to Ruby and Rails, so sorry if this is a totally ridiculous question. The tutorial book that I'm reading says that I should be able to launch a Gemfile in Sublime Text directly from the command prompt using the subl Gemfile command. When I try this, I get an error that says "subl is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file".
I am in the right directory where the Gemfile is located.
Ruby is definitely installed and I am using the command prompt with Ruby and Rails.
i have the sublime text 2 and i added the path as i found, but no solution.i even tried :sublime_text Gemfile
i have tried so many different solutions but no result.
i'm using windows
Thank you in advance
the reason it isn't working isn't a rails question, it is because you haven't set up sublime to work using the command "subl" in your terminal. Try these commands. If you wish to understand the error better, just type in any gibberish into the terminal. It will tell you a similar thing.
sudomkdir /usr/local
sudomkdir /usr/local/bin
sudo ln-s/Applications/Sublime\Text\2.app/Contents/SharedSupport/bin/subl /usr/local/bin/subl
EDIT
Sublime Text from Command Line (Win7)

https://teamtreehouse.com/forum/ruby-on-rails-subl-command-not-found
Otherwise, you can refer to this
subl is Mac only.
For Windows, you need to add C:\Program Files (x86)\Sublime Text 2 to your Environment path,
This will work on Windows 7:
Right click My Computer, Properties, then Advanced System Settings, then Environment Variables.. Go down to System Variables, and edit PATH, you'll need to add the Path to Sublime.
Then you should be able to run sublime_text my-file from the command line. (Since the .exe is called sublime_text.exe
