Fix position of responsive image in responsive header, next to text - html

The idea of this is to have a responsive header with text and an image element, which sit on a fixed background image.
I've tried to do this with bootstrap columns, which works on desktop to come out the way I want it. On smaller devices however, the bootstrap media queries do exactly what they are supposed to do and break the columns up to be displayed below each other.
I am out of ideas for this. I know I need to fix the image element somehow to stay consistently on the bottom end of the container, but since the entire thing is responsive I have no idea how to accomplish that.
Here is what I have so far, but this is not the solution. I appreciate any suggestions.
<section class="section swatch-black section-text-shadow section-inner-shadow">
<div class="background-media" style="background-image: url('http://some-url.com/home-intro.jpg'); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-size: cover; background-attachment:fixed; background-position: 50% 60%;"> </div>
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6 text-left element-normal-top element-normal-bottom">
<h1 class="bigger hairline bordered-normal element-tall-top"> Header Text<br>
<strong>More Text </strong> </h1>
<p class="lead"> Even more text </p>
learn more
contact us </div>
<div class="col-md-6 text-right">
<img src="assets/images/uploads/test.png" style="position:relative; right: 0px; bottom: 0px; top: 150px;">
</div>
</div>
</div>
</section>

you can set up your own column structure. Here's an example that I made for you real quick:
http://jsfiddle.net/97wswqvr/
this will need more work obviously, depending on the rest of your header text/buttons etc... but its a good place to start
html
<header>
<div class='content col col-1-2'>
<div>
text text text
</div>
<div>
text text text
</div>
<div>
text text text
</div>
</div>
<div class='col col-1-2 img'>
<img class='col' src='http://store.storeimages.cdn-apple.com/8459/as-images.apple.com/is/image/AppleInc/aos/published/images/i/ph/iphone/compare/iphone-compare-bbh-201411?wid=254&hei=210&fmt=png-alpha&qlt=95&.v=1416449205305'/>
</div>
</header>
css
html,body {
margin: 0;
}
header {
background-image: url(http://wowslider.com/sliders/demo-85/data1/images/southtyrol350698.jpg);
text-align: center;
}
.content {
color: white;
padding: 40px 0;
}
.col {
display: inline-block;
vertical-align: middle;
}
.col-1-2 {
width: 45%;
}
.img {
}
img {
width: 70%;
}

Bootstrap CSS: div with image is overlapping div with text

I have the following four inner div container (small picture - text - small picture - text):
<div class="container">
<div class="col-md-12">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-2">
<div class="components-circle inner-component"></div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4">
<h3>Title</h3>
<p class="description">
Some ... long ... text
</p>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-2">
<div class="components-circle inner-component"></div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4">
<h3>Title</h3>
<p class="description">
Some ... long ... text
</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
The CSS for components-circle and inner-component:
.components-circle {
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
height: 115px;
width: 115px;
border-radius: 100%;
border: 2px solid #e0e0eb;
}
.inner-component {
background: url(http://...) no-repeat;
background-position: 20px 15px;
}
The problem is, that components-circle and inner-component are overlapping the text which is on the right side of them when I resize the browser, that means the template is not responsive.
How could I insert a line break when the browser is resized or make components-circle and inner-component responsive, so that they do not overlap the corrsponding text on the right side?
Is the content of the "col-sm-12" div overlapping the content of the page, or the text next to the image that is overlapping?
Anyway, you can fix both of these issues in this way, using a "container" or "row" div and adding a css for page resizing.
.components-circle {
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
height: 115px;
width: 115px;
border-radius: 100%;
border: 2px solid #e0e0eb;
}
.inner-component {
background: url(http://...) no-repeat;
background-position: 20px 15px;
}
.center-text{
text-align: left;
}
#media (max-width: 765px) {
.center-text{
text-align: center;
}
}
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<div class="container">
<div class="col-md-12">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-2">
<div class="components-circle inner-component"></div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4 center-text">
<h3>Title</h3>
<p class="description">
Some ... long ... text
</p>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-2">
<div class="components-circle inner-component"></div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4 center-text">
<h3>Title</h3>
<p class="description">
Some ... long ... text
</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
You are already using row class so just setting the width of components-circle to 100% (rather than making it static) will work (as bootstrap will handle rest of the responsive stuff).
To keep the aspect ratio of height-width you have to remove height from components-circle and use padding-top. Have a look here to see how it works. (padding-top: 100% gives 1:1 aspect ratio)
Open the below snippet in full-page view and resize to see the effect :)
Though there can be other methods to achieve the same, IMO this one is quite simple and understandable.
.components-circle {
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
padding-top: 100%;
width: 100%;
border-radius: 100%;
border: 2px solid #e0e0eb;
}
.inner-component {
background: url(https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/eiMAAOSwH3haAlKl/s-l300.png) no-repeat;
background-size: contain;
}

<div class="col-md-12">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-2">

<div class="col-sm-4">
<h3>Title</h3>
<p class="description">

<div class="col-sm-4">

</div>

</html>
Update: To keep the inner image at the centre during resize, you have to set it's position to 0px 0px (which is default) and add background-size: contain to the inner-component. This will scale the image to fit the parent. See the updated snippet above!
To make a breakpoint that is hidden on larger viewports, you can use these CSS classes with the line break:
.d-md-none To make it invisible on anything larger than md sized screens.
.d-sm-none To hide it on anything larger than sm sized screens.
You may also need to put the row inside a container.
This is what it would look like: <br class="d-md-none">
If you want a line break without using a <br> element, check out this guide.

Bootstrap - Assistance with layout needed

I'm new to coding and figured best way to learn is to get a gig, which I did. I've got some basic (like very basic) HTML & CSS knowledge, but bootstraps layout seemed to fit for what I'm trying to accomplish. Please keep in mind this is my very first project ever(!) when it comes to coding.
So here's the design I'm trying to replicate:
montere.it
I'm interested just in the main page, the actual tiles below the main image to be exact. I can't seem to find the best solution to position 2 tiles with background image, side by side(no gaps), with some h1 text and a small <p> above the background image in the tile, positioned centrally. There will be two more tiles below the initial two.
I SPENT A WEEK looking for similar solutions, but I'm exhausted and confused over all information digested. Can some one just point me in the right direction as to which features to use?
It seems even if I get to position both images, there are always gaps (right or left), there's no way to position the text exactly above the image centrally so it stays in one place when the display is resized and I don't want to cry about the rest.
I have a feeling it's a dumb question to ask, since none of the info I've found provide an exact solution to this question, so probably must be really easy to do and I just can't seem to grasp it.
I do apologize for taking up your time, but I just have no one else to ask.
Cheers!
Please check this out:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img" style="background-color: red">
<h1>Image 1</h1>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img" style="background-color: orange">
<h1>Image 2</h1>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img" style="background-color: green">
<h1>Image 3</h1>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img" style="background-color: yellow">
<h1>Image 4</h1>
</div>
</div>
And add this to your CSS file:
.col-img h1 {
margin-bottom: 0;
margin-top: 0;
text-align: center;
}
In case any one else runs into this problem, here's the fully working solution. I'm just not sure if it will disappear under gjfonte's link, so I want to be safe here:
Here's what was provided by #gjfonte:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img">
<div class="bg-img img-1">
<div class="content">
<h1>Image 1</h1>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img">
<div class="bg-img img-2">
<div class="content">
<h1>Image 1</h1>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img">
<div class="bg-img img-3">
<div class="content">
<h1>Image 1</h1>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 col-xs 12 col-img">
<div class="bg-img img-4">
<div class="content">
<h1>Image 1</h1>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
.content {
padding-top: 90px;
color: #fff
}
.content h1 {
margin-bottom: 0;
margin-top: 0;
text-align: center;
}
.col-img .bg-img {
text-align: center;
margin: 0 -15px;
background-position: center center;
-webkit-background-size: cover;
-moz-background-size: cover;
-o-background-size: cover;
background-size: cover;
height: 250px;
}
.bg-img.img-1 {
background-image: url("http://www.montere.it/assets/img/bg-qualitycycle-wrapper.jpg");
}
.bg-img.img-2 {
background-image: url("http://www.montere.it/assets/img/bg-qualitymap-wrapper.jpg");
}
.bg-img.img-3 {
background-image: url("http://www.montere.it/assets/img/bg-recipes-wrapper.jpg");
}
.bg-img.img-4 {
background-image: url("http://www.montere.it/assets/img/bg-journal-wrapper.jpg");

BootStrap Row not aligning

I am using Bootstrap 4 Alpha 5 and I have the following HTML:
<div class="home-content">
<div class="container">
<div class="row flex-items-xs-middle">
<div class="col-md-7">
<h1 class="site-title text-xs-center text-md-left">
<span class="name">I'm Shivam Paw</span>
<span class="title">I create beautiful and bespoke websites to fit your needs</span>
</h1>
</div>
<div class="col-md-5">
<img src="https://www.shivampaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/shivampaw.png" class="float-md-right img-fluid logo-me mx-auto" alt="Shivam Paw">
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
However, if you see the image below then you will see that the content is misaligned to the left. I saw a post on this on SO but it said you have to put the row class in a container which I have already done.
You can see the site live at https://www.shivampaw.com
I looked at the .row CSS which has margin for left and right of -15px. Removing those margins fixed it but I don't think that's how it should be?
If this is what you expect then look at your CSS. This is the line centering your content
.text-xs-center {
text-align: center!important;
}
This should fix it though
.site-title {
font-size: 36px;
color: white;
font-weight: bold;
text-align: left !important;
}
Turns out I had some offending CSS in my style.css:
*, img.full-size{
max-width: 100%;
}
Changing it to:
img.full-size{
max-width: 100%;
}
Fixed the problem.

How to center text inside a bootstrap grid

I have a grid divided into 2. One side holds an image and the other side some text. Currently it looks as follows:
I want to make it look as follows:
I am looking to get rid of the black spot and center the text. There is no issue in centering it horizontally but unable to do it vertically to fit nicely in relation to the image. Please advice if there is any pre built class already available in bootstrap or I need to rewrite additional CSS.
The following are my current html and css.
HTML
<div class="col-md-6 custom-info">
<img src="img/test.jpg" class="img-responsive center-block">
</div>
<div class="col-md-6 custom-info text-center" style="text-align: left;">
<h1>Discover Our Latest Colourful addition</h1>
<h3>Explore our range of text text text text.</h3>
<h3>View the menu.</h3>
</div>
CSS
.custom-info{
background-color: #c0d023;
padding: 30px;
}
After Editing:
You may try this.
HTML
<div class="row xclassrow">
<div class="col-md-6 custom-info">
<img src="http://i.imgur.com/VpelmxT.png?1" class="img-responsive center-block">
</div>
<div class="col-md-6 custom-info text-left">
<div class="content">
<h1>Discover Our Latest Colourful addition</h1>
<h3>Explore our range of text text text text.</h3>
</div>
<h3>View the menu.</h3>
</div>
CSS
.xclassrow{
background-color:#C0D123
}
.content {padding:40px 0px}
.custom-info{
background-color: #c0d023;
padding: 30px;
}
Hope this works. Do comeback if still any issue.!!
EDIT : Removed the xclass and wrap the content in a new class. Check DEMO
TLDR;
Use display:table with display:table-cell to accomplish vertical centering of elements.
For newer browser you can use flexbox. I will demonstrate both approaches here.
Old but secure way (may not work for you here)
What I do most of the time is define 2 helper classes called t and td
*This works if you have a defined height of the containing element
The code then looks something like this:
HTML
<div class="col-md-6 custom-info text-center" style="text-align: left;">
<div class="t">
<div class="td">
<h1>Discover Our Latest Colourful addition</h1>
<h3>Explore our range of text text text text.</h3>
<h3>View the menu.</h3>
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS
.t {
display: table;
height: 100%;
}
.td {
display: table-cell;
vertical-align: middle;
height: 100%;
}
Jsfiddle
Old and even more secure way
Since you know that your 2 columns are 6+6 and that makes 12 columns total width.
Make 1 long element col-md-12 and make a table inside it (either with regular table elements or the helper classes i used in the above example.
HTML
<div class="col-12 specific-class">
<div class="t">
<div class="td">
<img src="http://static.adzerk.net/Advertisers/d936d243e9de4c989a6c95b031eb11d6.png" alt="">
</div>
<div class="td">
<h1>Discover Our Latest Colourful addition</h1>
<h3>Explore our range of text text text text.</h3>
<h3>View the menu.</h3>
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS
.specific-class .td {
width: 50%;
background: rgba(0,0,0,.2);
}
.t { display: table; height: 100%; width: 100%; }
.td { display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; height: 100%; }
Jsfiddle
Note: added vertical align to the image to remove small spacing under it
The mighty flexbox (the future looks bright)
Flexbox is a sight for sore eyes for us fe-devs and will be an integral building block of the future www.
HTML
<div class="col-12 specific-class">
<div class="fl-element">
<img src="http://static.adzerk.net/Advertisers/d936d243e9de4c989a6c95b031eb11d6.png" alt="">
</div>
<div class="fl-element">
<h1>Discover Our Latest Colourful addition</h1>
<h3>Explore our range of text text text text.</h3>
<h3>View the menu.</h3>
</div>
</div>
CSS
.specific-class {
display: flex;
align-items: center;
}
.specific-class .fl-element {
width: 50%;
}

Centering 2 images with label in a row in Bootstrap

The goal is that I want both images to have be side by side and centered in the middle of the row.
I tried to do that via adjusting the columns of the row
The problem is that even with trying to center via rows, it always looks a little off center and if I change the max-width to be a little bigger, the images are no longer side by side and are on top of one another
The height and width of the images are...
graft1/graft2 - height="333" width="500"
ivan1/ivan2 - height="542" width="400"
Here is my HTML
<section class="wrapper style1">
<div class="container">
<div id="content">
<!-- Content -->
<article>
<header>
<h2>Before and After</h2>
</header>
<div class="row">
<div class="div_baPics">
<img id="graft1" class="baPics" src="images/graft1.jpg" alt="">
<label for="graft1">Before</label>
<img id="graft2" class="baPics" src="images/graft2.jpg" alt="">
<label for="graft2">After</label>
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="div_baPics">
<img id="ivan1" class="baPics" src="images/ivan1.jpg" alt="">
<label for="ivan1">Before</label>
<img id="ivan2" class="baPics" src="images/ivan2.jpg" alt="">
<label for="ivan2">After</label>
</div>
</div>
</article>
</div>
</div>
</section>
And here is the CSS for baPics
.baPics {
max-width: 30%;
}
.div_baPics {
text-align: center;
}
Since you're using Bootstrap, I went with its system. See this fiddle :
http://jsfiddle.net/Bladepianist/55gyp94n/
Well, i did use real image so that you could see the result but with that (when I tested anyway), your image should resize, following the screen.
.thumbnail {
border: none;
}
This code isn't needed, unless you don't want the border of the thumbnail ;).
Hope it will satisfy you and if that's the case, thumbs up :p.
You need to wrap img and corresponding label in a wrapper, like so:
/*Just to make a difference between pics*/
body {
background: grey;
}
/*Minimal CSS*/
.div_baPics {
text-align: center; /*Center alignment for the wrapper*/
font-size: 0; /*To remove the white space between pics*/
}
.pic {
display: inline-block;
}
.pic img {
display: block;
/*This should be set by default by Bootstrap*/
max-width: 100%;
height: auto;
}
.pic label {
display: block;
font-size: 16px; /*Or whatever font-size you use*/
}
<div class="div_baPics">
<div class="pic">
<img src="http://i.imgur.com/zNTWaR3.jpg" />
<label>Pic 1</label>
</div>
<div class="pic">
<img src="http://i.imgur.com/IqiJN2f.png" />
<label>Pic 2</label>
</div>
</div>
