I've got a pdf on the network server that I'd like to view it in my browser. I do NOT want to download the pdf to view it.
I have the following link:

It works and opens perfectly in Chrome, yay! (although it seems like it's only working when I'm logged on using my google-account)
When I click the link in Firefox, nothing happens, less yay...
If I, in Firefox, right-click the link, choose "Copy Link Location" and paste the link into the address field, it opens the pdf just fine.
I've tried using zero and up to 6 of those pesky / after file: just for making sure... I was desperate...
The plug-in for Acrobat Reader is up to date.
The reason for this not working is because of the security feature not allowing cross-usage of the protocols http:// and file://.
To solve this in Chrome, download a plugin called LocalLinks (link).
For Firefox, there is currently no solution afaik.
For Safari (versions 6+), you could possibly activate the Develop-menu for safari (open preferences, choose advanced and then check the box for "Show develop menu in menu bar") and then enable the option "Disable Local File Restriction". However, this is an untested solution.

Our application uses a popup window to show a report. This works in every browser except Chrome.
In Chrome the URL in the Network tab of the inspector has a blank response. I also see Chrome loading an inject.preload.js script from disk cache?
This exact same page works in Firefox and Safari as well. I haven't been able to check IE yet (i'm on a mac today).
What is this inject.preload.js script and why would Chrome not load a URL in a popup?
The exact same code running staging servers works, the popup loads just fine. In production it works everywhere except Chrome. Both staging and production use SSL, have the same config, etc.
I unfortunately can't link as its a secured site.
Inject.preload.js is generally some sort of adblocker. It could be the case that its acting up and blocking your popup. If it is the case, it would show as an icon to the right of the address bar.
I have a very simple question I could not find answer for myself: I want links in OneNote to open in Chrome.
Note that the default browser is IE and I cannot change it (not admin etc).
Tried: "chrome_path url" - didn't work. Everything I could think about didn't work.
Please provide explicit solution so that link from within OneNote opens in Chrome rather than in IE.
To note, there are multiple links, so batch file won't do in this case.

I had a little go with testing some ideas that I had though I'm very new to OneNote. It's easy enough to open Chrome from a hyperlink:
Select text to link
Add link
Select the file icon and navigate to chrome.exe. In my instance - C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe
I believe you cannot pass arguments to the exe as it is considered a security issue. This certainly used to be the case and I'm not sure if they have modified their thinking since. The only way I can think of is to create a batch file which includes your ideal website and link to the batch file:
"start chrome http://www.youtube.com"
I found two ways to do it, though neither is the perfect:
There is a 3rd party OneNote add-on which adds more browsers in the right-click menu. Though it is not free and maybe can't be installed on restricted computers.
It works only on OneNote docs which are saved onto Onedrive. Open the OneNote page which has the links right in the Chrome, not in the desktop app. Then any links you click will open in the same browser. You can get the address of the OneNote page by clicking on 'Copy Link to Page' in OneNote app, then paste it to a notepad. Copy the first url to Chrome's address bar.
For those who has admin right, this problem can be solved by following Make Chrome your default browser. It is set at machine level, not onenote level.
How can I view HTML web storage in Chrome and Firefox?
try the inspector in Chrome.
Right Click Page > Inspect Element > Resources -> Local Storage
For Firefox use Firebug add-on. Open Firebug. Click on Console. On the command line type in:
localStorage
For development you can also edit local storage in Firebug using dot notation. For example:
localStorage.myVar = "hello"
localStorage.clear()
localStorage.removeItem("myVar")
In Firefox 19+ you can inspect localStorage directly from the console without Firebug:
inspect(localStorage)
This will pull up a panel displaying the key/value pairs

In Firefox the data is saved to the webappstore.sqlite in the FF profile folder. You can view it with the SQLite Manager, an addon for FF.
In Chrome pull down More Tools->Developer Tools. In the panel that appears click the Application tab. You will see LocalStorage in the subsequent menu. You can delete, Edit etc....
Is there a way for me to get Google Chrome to launch in Aptana?
I tried adding it under Web Browsers but when launching the webpage, from Aptana, it launches it in Firefox instead.
Selecting Default system browser doesn't work either.
How I would do it is where the green > button is, at the top (next to debug), go into run configuration and add a new entry for google chrome.
The path for chromes exe is at (Win7)
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe
WinXP
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application\chrome.exe
Then you can run that straight from the drop down menu. This is the way I do it, however it may not be applicable for your situation.

I deleted Firefox from the General > Web Browser settings.
I restarted Aptana Studio 3 and now, when I click on the green arrow run button, Chrome is the browser.

I have Windows 7 and followed the advice listed above for the 'green button'. For Chrome, my file path was "C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe". It was very simple and worked beautifully. Thank you.
rickyduck's answer applies but the path to Chrome may have changed in newer versions to :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

To get the exact path to chrome on your machine, just go to your start menu, type in chrome and when it comes up, right click on it and select the Shortcut tab to copy the target path and paste right into Aptana.
Another way to directly launch chrome upon pressing green button is to delete other browsers from run -> run configuration -> web browser . . . and leave chrome alone . . if you want other browsers you can add later on . .
You can add as many browsers as you want. Click on Run -> Run Configurations then right-click on Web Browser in the left nav pane, then select New. Use the Browse button to get the application path then at the top of the dialog, type in a descriptive name. Click Apply and Close. You now have more than one browser to choose from for testing.
I added Chrome to run configurations, and deleted Firefox and IE, also changed likewise under General Web Browsers. The Chrome tab doesn't show up on Green dropdown. If I exit program and restart, the Firefox and IE are back again, but still now Chrome.
Click the tiny black arrow thats looks at the bottom and is located at the top, next to the green Run button:
Choose Run Configurations and then you should see a Browser executable field, under the Web Browser tab:
where you want to click Browse, navigate to the Google Chrome executable (at my Max OS X at El capitan: Applications -> Google Chrome) and double click on it.
Then, click Apply (in the Run Configurations window). Then Run.
That's it! :)
Tested with Aptana Studio 3, installed like this on Mac.
I am looking for a way to launch a file located on our local file network for use via our local intranet using Firefox or Chrome.
The link works well in IE:

This is not enabled in firefox for security reasons (remember that most computers have files and applications of a sensitive nature located in similar locations, like C:\System\Windows)
you can try adding this to the user.js file for any user that needs to be able to access these links:
user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites", "file:///[[PUT SERVER NAME HERE]]";);
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");
Just remember that this is a security risk.
Firefox seems to want file://///Start/Of/My/Network/file.xlsx
Chrome and IE handles that too.
file://Start/Of/My/Network/file.xlsx appears to work in Chrome as well, sometimes firefox hics up on it..
There is the LocalLink add-on for firefox. It uses a context menu though...
Use IE tab (available for Chrome and Firefox) and set that to handle all links of the form file:/// by adding an autourls entry like this:
r/file:///.*
Technically this isn't opening the file in the original browser, but it gives you all the windows explorer integration you'd expect from whatever IE version you've got installed when dealing with local file links. I would advise against doing this except in cases when the browser isn't being used to access the web - e.g. for viewing internal wiki or intranet pages, due to the obvious security risk.
