I have a database table called rates with four foreign keys and a decimal amount (primary key is understood). I am using MY-SQL database 5.6.17. I suspect that the data contains duplicate amounts for reverse combinations point_id_2 and point_id_2. The other two foreign keys,method_id and class_id seem to be mirrored in the respective tuples which appear to have duplicate amounts. See the image below.
If you look at the foreign keys,point_id_1, point_id_2 and the amount this is what I mean by "symmetrical data".
Is it possible to track down all rows where point_id_1 and point_id_2 are interchanged and the amounts are the same?
This way I can then decide on which rows to remove.
So you just want to know if you have duplicates on the two POINT_ID fields for the same amount? You just need a simple join on the fields you think are matching:
SELECT r1.*, r2.*
FROM
rates r1
INNER JOIN rates r2
ON r1.point_ID_1 = r2.point_ID_2 AND r1.point_ID_2 = r2.point_ID_1
WHERE

This would be generally considering not good practice. Your primary key should be uniquely identifiable for that specific table, and any other data related to that key should be stored in separate columns.
However since an answer is not a place for a lecture, if you want to store multiple values in you Act ID column, I would suggest changing your primary key to something more generic "RowID". Then using vba to insert multiple values into this field.
However changing the primary key late in a databases life may cause alot of issues or be difficult. So good luck
Storing calculated values in a table has the disadvantage that these entries may become outdated as the other table is updated. It is preferable to query the tables on the fly to always get uptodate results
SELECT A.ActID, SUM(B.Percentage) AS SumPercent

This query allows you to add additional columns from the first table. If you only need the ActID from table 1, then you can simplify the query, and instead take it from table 2:
SELECT ActID, SUM(Percentage) AS SumPercent
FROM table2
GROUP BY ActID
ORDER BY ActID
If you have spaces other other special characters in a column or table name, you must escape it with []. E.g. [Act ID].
Do not change the IDs in the table. If you want to have the result displayed as the ID merged with the sum, change the query to
SELECT A.ActID & "." & Format(SUM(B.Percentage), "0.000") AS Result
FROM ...

I need to compile quantities from several warehouses that update their inventories periodically. The files are automatically loaded into tables in my MySQL database, but sometimes one warehouse might have a few more or less files than the others. I need to add them all to determine the total quantity available from the entire network.
My idea was to do:

IFNULL(branch_01.qty,0) +
IFNULL(branch_02.qty,0) +
IFNULL(branch_03.qty,0) +
etc. through all warehouses joined as:

JOIN branch_03

I can't use LEFT JOIN or RIGHT JOIN because sometimes one warehouse might have missing entries and sometimes another might. If a sku is missing from one branch's file, I'd prefer to still have the other branches added together, and just get a NULL, which would be converted to a 0 by the functions in the SELECT. When I've tested different joining solutions, I also seem to be getting Cartesian numbers of rows, which confuses me further.
Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
Just a little clarification:
We need to join 17 tables. We're not really concerned with the sum of a column, but more the individual values. For instance, a table might represent a list of items a,b,c,d, and list quantities of 1,2,3,4. We would have that table from several different warehouses and we would need to find a total for the entire network. If four warehouses had those values, we would want to see a,b,c,d with 4,8,12,16 as values for the total available.

Are you joining many tables? So let's say 2 tables and you want to sum up the quantity column?
First of all, JOIN performs the cartesian product of 2(or more) tables. So you'll get so many instances that you don't wish to have; the solution to this is using the WHERE.
Maybe this is what you are looking for:
SELECT sum(a.qty) + sum(b.qty)
FROM table1 a, table2 b
WHERE a.pk = b.fk -- this one resolves the unwanted instances
fk denotes foreign key and pk denotes primary key.
I have 4 tables: rooms(id, name, description), clients(id, name, email), cards(id, card_number, exp_date, client_id) and orders(id, client_id, room_id, card_id, start_date, end_date).
The tables are all InnoDB and are pretty much simple. What I need is to add relationships between them. What I did was to assign cards.client_id as a Foreign Key to db.clients and orders.client_id, orders.room_id and orders.card_id as Foreign Keys to the other tables.
My question: is this way correct and reliable? I never had the need to use Foreign Key before now and this is my first try. All the Foreign Keys are also indexes.
Also, what's the easiest way to retrieve all the information I need for db.orders ?
I need a query to output: who is the client, what's his card details, what room/s did he ordered and what's the period he's checked in.
Can I accomplish this query based on the structure I created?
You must create the FK's in all columns that relate to other tables. In your case, create on: cards.client_id, orders.client_id, orders.room_id, orders.card_id
In the case of MySQL it automatically creates indexes for these FK's.
On your select, I believe it can be the following:
SELECT * FROM orders
INNER JOIN client on client.id = orders.client_id
INNER JOIN cards on cards.client_id = client.id
INNER JOIN rooms on rooms.id = orders.room_id
I do not know what columns you need, there is only you replace the * by the columns you need, so SQL is faster.

I'm attempting to formulate a one-line query that will populate the clients_ID, Job_id, tech_id, & Part_id and return back all the work orders present. Nothing more nothing less.
Thus far I've struggled to generate this Query:

Apparently, once all the joining happens it does not even populate the correct foreign key values according to their reference.

It just goes on about 20-30 times depending on largest row of a table that I have (one of the above).
I only have two work orders created, So ideally it should return just TWO Records, and columns, and fields with correct information. What could I be doing wrong? Haven't been with MySQL too long but am learning as much as I can.
Your join conditions are wrong. Join on tech_id = tech_id, not tech_id = tech_name. Looks like you do this for all your joins, so they all need to be fixed.

Replying to your comment here. You said you want to "load up" the tech name column. I assume you mean you want tech name to be part of your result set.
The SELECT part of the query is what determines the columns that are in the result set. As long as the table where the column lives is referenced in the FROM/JOIN clauses, you can SELECT any column from that table.
Think of a JOIN statement as a way to "look up" a value in one table based on a value in another table. This is a very simplified definition, but it's a good way to start thinking about it. You want tech name in your result set, so you look it up in the Technicians table, which is where it lives. However, you want to look it up by a value that you have in the Work Orders table. The key (which is actually called a foreign key) that you have in the Work Orders table that relates it to the Technicians table is the tech_id. You use the tech_id to look up the related row in the Technicians table, and by doing so can include any column in that table in your result set.
I am applying a group of data mining algorithms to a dataset comprised of a set of customers along with a large number of descriptive attributes that summarize various aspects of their past behavior. There are more than 10,000 attributes, each stored as a column in a table with the customer id as the primary key. For several reasons, it is necessary to pre-compute these attributes rather than calculating them on the fly. I generally try to select customer with a specified attribute set. The algorithms can combine any arbitrary number of these attributes together in a single SELECT statement and join the required tables. All the tables have the same number of rows (one per customer).
I am wondering what's the best way to structure these tables of attributes. Is it better to group the attributes into tables of 20-30 columns, requiring more joins on average but fewer columns per SELECT, or have tables with the maximum number of columns to minimize the number of joins, but having potentially all 10K columns joined at once?
I also thought of using one giant 3-column customerID-attribute-value table and storing all the info there, but it would be harder to structure a "select all customers with these attributes-type query that I need."
I'm using MySQL 5.0+, but I assume this is a general SQL-ish question.
From my expirience using tables with 10,000 columns is very-very-very bad idea. What if in future this number will be increased?
If there are a lot of attributes you shouldn't use a horizontal scaled tables (with large number of columns). You should create a new table attributes and place alltributes values into it. Then connect this table with Many-To-One relationship to main entry table
Maybe the second way is to use no-SQL (like MongoDB) systems

Your generator should generate the inner joins on the fly.
Proper indexes on the tables should allow all this engine to go relatively fast (if we assume 10k attributes per customer, and 10k customers, that's actually pretty much a challenge...)
10,000 columns is much. The SELECT statement will be very long and messy if you wouldn't use *. I think you can narrow the attributes down to most useful and meaningful ones, eliminating others
