I'm doing a page for someone. I toggled the visibility of a div with a checkbox however, he wants to change the height of the header which comes before the content div which has the onclick event. Could anyone help me out? either css or js/jquery.
What I want:
checkbox off: div hidden & header height 412px.
checkbox checked: div showed & header height 212px.
header {
width:100%;
height:412px;
text-align:center;

}
#wrapper td {
vertical-align: middle;
text-align: center;
}
#wrapper td img {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
width: 736px;
height: 105px;
margin-top: -52px; /* Half the height */
margin-left: -368px; /* Half the width */
}

Demo
Something like this?
I've set the initial height to 212px and added a new class to CSS header.expand where you set the height to 412px. After that you trigger the click() event for the checkbox in jQuery and toggle the expand class with toggleClass(...)
SNIPPET
$('#punch').click(function() {
$('header').toggleClass('expand');
});

For the last couple of days I am working in a simple step by step tutorial layout (html/css), and I cannot make it responsive and limited to screen size at same time.
Here is what I have so far and what I am trying to do:
HTML:
<div id="tutorial">
<h1>Step 2 - Title</h1>
<h3>Second step description / instructions</h3>
<div id="content">
<div id="ctrls">
<img src="images/prev.png">
<img src="images/stop.png">
<img src="images/next.png">
</div>
<div id="image">
<img src="images/step2.jpg">

</div>
<div id="controls">
<div class="btn prev">
<img src="images/btn_prev.png">
<div class="btn next">
<img src="images/btn_next.png">
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS:
* {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
html, body {
overflow: hidden;
font-family: Arial;
}
#tutorial {
width: 100%;
height: 100vh;
background-color: #FFFFCC;
}
h1 {
padding: 20px;
font-size: 26px;
font-weight: bold;
text-align: center;
}
h3 {
font-size: 20px;
text-align: center;
font-weight: normal;
}
#content {
display: table;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 16px;
height: calc(100vh - 220px);
background-color: #E6E6E6;
}
#content #image {
position: relative;
}
#content #image img {
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
max-height: 100%;
}
#content #ctrls {

z-index: 99;

padding: 2px;
}
#content #ctrls img {

}

margin-right: 10px;
}
#controls .next {

}
#controls .off {

Thank you for any help!
Try this variant. I rewrote your code a bit...
https://codepen.io/opmasan/pen/jObdmdd
:root {
--header-height: 100px;
--footer-height: 200px;
}
*{
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
html, body {
font-family: Arial;
}
#tutorial {
width: 100%;
height: 100vh;
background-color: #FFFFCC;
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
justify-content: center;
align-items: center;
}
h1 {
padding: 20px;
font-size: 26px;
font-weight: bold;
text-align: center;
}
h3 {
font-size: 20px;
text-align: center;
font-weight: normal;
}
#content {
display: flex;
padding: 16px;
background-color: #E6E6E6;
}
#content #image {
position: relative;
}
#content #image img {
height: calc(100vh - var(--header-height) - var(--footer-height));
max-height:100%;
max-width: 100%;
object-fit: cover;
}
#content #ctrls {
position: absolute;
z-index: 99;
width: 100px;
height: 50px;
background-color: #3AE2CE;
}
#controls {
display: flex;
margin: 4px auto;
}
#controls .btn {
margin-top: 6px;
float: left;
}
#controls .prev {
margin-right: 10px;
}
#controls .next {
margin-left: 10px;
}
#controls .off {
opacity: 0.4;
filter: alpha(opacity=40);
}
Remove height: calc(100vh - 220px); from your content div.
Then, Just declare the div size and make the image size 100%.
#image{
height:200px;
width:200px;
}
#image img{
height:100%;
width:100%;
}

This variant with object-fit: contain and some fixes in html will be better:
#content #image img {
object-fit: contain;
}
Ever since I added "position absoulte" to my div ".container" in my code below, my CSS animate code zooms in from the bottom then hiccups and positions itself to the center.
How can I make my animate zoom just zoom in right to the center without this hiccup where it goes down first then a second later it automatically moves to the center?
If I remove the position absolute from the .container div the animate zoom works just fine but it's not centered anymore vertically (just horizontally). The reason I used position absolute and left 0 and right 0 was to center it both ways.
Here is my code:

box-sizing: border-box;

You are using position:absolute and the parent element is not set with relative so the form is not relative to the scaled container which is creating this issue. You need to set position:relative to the parent container and then adjust the centering:
.box {
...
position:relative; /*Added this*/
}
.container {
...
transform:translate(0,-50%); /*Added this*/
top: 50%;
...
}

By the way it's better to consider another way than positioned element to center. You can do it with flex since you are already using it:
.box {
....
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
align-items: center;
justify-content: center;
}
Then remove everything related to positionning from .container.

There's a few issues. In your .box styling you should add position: relative; this will force .container's absolute positioning to respect its parent, in this case .box's positioning and size. The second is the top: 50%; on .container. In certain scenarios that can seem to center the item but in others it does not. What you can do to center .container within .box is add transform: translate(0, -50%); which offsets top: 50% and centers the element. Same can be done horizontally with left: 50% and transform: translate(-50%, -50%);.

As the title mentions, this problem is quite specific and I can't seem to find an answer for it anywhere. I'm trying to add the text "2017 Indie" to the very bottom of the page. When I do margin-top to some pixel value, the text will remain the same and nothing changes, but when I do margin-bottom it creates extra white space above the division I'm in which is the opposite of what I want. I'm not sure what the problem is.

From my point of view the margin works as expected. The problem is the containing div.
You set sect3 to a height of 100%. Using this style causes the div to appear with the height of the parent element wich is the body tag. Removing the height style will fix the problem if i understood the problem right.
If it is necessary to keep the height of 100% you must add some additional styling to position the text right at the end.
Add position: relative to the container sect3
then position the text3-1 div at the bottom e.g.
.text3-1 {
position: absolute;
width: 100%;
bottom: 0;
text-align: center;
margin-top: 100px;
display: block;
}
html,
body {
height: 100%
}

}

I'm trying to make the text on my navigation bar to show an underline on mouse-over but for some reason it doesn't work. I've used the CSS from the Hover-master collection and just a simple navigation list. What to do?!
Have I used the Hover-master collection wrong?
EDIT: I just inserted my whole code and in the snippet it works but when I run the html file in the browers it doesn't...
EDIT2: The files are hosted # http://fransbergstrom.kaggteknik.se/ and as you can see, the links doesn't work, and the code is an exact copy of the ones pasted below.

Just remove z-index:-1; from .background{}. You dropped the whole page below "sea level", so hover event do not fires. ;)
have you tried adding the font-size attribute to .hvr-underline-from-center:hover ?
add this to the css:
.hvr-underline-from-center:hover {
font-size: 30px;
}
#navlist li a:hover {
font-size: 55px;
}
Add that line to your CSS and put your own pixels value instead of '55px' to play around the text size when hovering

Okey I just figured it out, for some reason my .background class caused the problem. By removing position=absolute; from the class my tags became clickable again.
I don't know why this happends but at least it fixed my problem.
yesterday I posted a question asking how can I center a div inside a div... Now I have another problem, I want to center a div on the screen. I want it to be in the middle and to take up 50% of the screen;
Here is a pic of the problem:
As you can see there isn't anything in the middle of the screen, that is my problem. Here is my HTML code:
* {
font-size: 100%;
font-family: Serif;
}
body {
background: url("images/background.jpg") repeat;
font-size: 100%;
}
.items {
background-color: rgba(0,0,0,.5);
width: 100%;
text-align: center;
margin: 0;
}
#basicInfo{
background-color: rgba(255,150,0,.8);
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
display: inline-block;
margin-top: 10px;
margin-bottom: 10px;
}
#basicInfo:hover{
background-color: rgba(255,150,0,1);
}
#basicInfo img{
display: block;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
padding-top: 16px;
}
#langs{
background-color: rgba(255,150,0,.8);
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
display: inline-block;
margin-top: 10px;
margin-bottom: 10px;
}
#langs img{
display: block;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
padding-top: 16px;
}
#langs:hover{
background-color: rgba(255,150,0,1);
}
.navbar {
background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.1);
position: fixed;
bottom: 0px;
left: 0px;
right: 0px;
width: 100%;
min-height: 5%;
}
.button{
background-color: rgba(0,0,0,.5);
font-size: 2em;
color: white;
width: 33%;
margin: 0 .16%;
height: 100%;
float: left;
}
.button:hover{
background-color: rgba(0,0,0,.7);
}
.button a{
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
color: white;
text-align: center;
vertical-align: middle;
}
#textSpace {
background-color: rgba(0,0,0, .5);
width: 100%;

Any help is apriciated! Thanks in advance!
To horizontally centre a div in the middle of the screen use:
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
