Float fluid text div inline with image div - html

I cannot figure out how to left float a div (filled with text and other divs) inline with an image with a fixed width. I have tried a host of options but I cannot get the second div to float inline.
How do I get the 'sidebbar-post-col2' to float inline with the 'featured-media' image div?
Thanks in advance

Ok so you have to do a few things:
1) On .sidebbar-post-col2 take off the float. You also need to add a pixel or percentage width to this div. That must be specified in order for inline-block to work I did 50%for my example.
2) Then on .sidebar-posts .featured-media I added a vertical-align: top; as well as changed display:block to display:inline-block
EDIT:
See my latest JSfiddle here:
https://jsfiddle.net/d239roug/2/
Essentially what I did was:
1) .post class I added display:table
2) On .sidebar-posts .featured-media and .sidebbar-post-col2 I added display:table-cell
The explanation for this is that display:table-cell distributes the space evenly depending on how much the inner content's width takes up within the display:table parent DIV.

Elements won't display on the same row

I tried using display: inline-block; to get the elements on the same row but it keeps moving down. I tried using margin to adjust the position but that'll mess up the responsive web function.
Here's how it looks now:
Here's how it should look:
My code so far:
#header .logo-wrap { padding: 50px 0 50px 0; }
#header p.site-desc {

text-align-last: right;
width:70%;
padding-top: -5px;
letter-spacing: 4px;

Padding and Margin not working

Theres a problem I have throughout my site and I'm unsure how to solve it. When I try to add padding or margins to certain elements they just don't work.
Here is a jsfiddle of part of the site that isn't responding to the css.
https://jsfiddle.net/a90sns1c/
I am trying to add padding to the top of .banner-sub but the padding just overlaps the above elements not pushing it down.
css:
#banner-wrap{
text-align: center;
}
.banner-title{
padding-top: 75px;
padding-bottom: 40px;
color:#fff;
font-size: 42px!important;
}
.banner-icons{
width: 780px;
margin: 0 auto!important;
padding-bottom: 50px!important;
}
#banner-button{padding-bottom: 50px;
}
#banner-content{
background-image:url('../images/banner.png');
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-size:cover;
background-position:center;
}
.banner-sub{
font-size: 24px!important;
font-family: 'Hind', sans-serif!important;
font-weight: 400;
}
#anchor-icon{padding-bottom: 30px;}
html:
<div id="banner-wrap">
<div id="banner" class="container">
<!-- <div class="banner-bg-img">
<img src="images/banner.png" />
</div>-->
<div id="banner-content">
<h1 class="banner-title">Quality assurance through planning<br /><span class="banner-sub">Nationwide leaflet distribution and sample delivery</span></h1>
<div class="section group banner-icons">
<div class="col span_1_of_4">
<img src="images/icon1.png" />
</div>
<div class="col span_1_of_4">
<img src="images/icon2.png" />
</div>
<div class="col span_1_of_4">
<img src="images/icon3.png" />
</div>
<div class="col span_1_of_4">
<img src="images/icon4.png" />
</div>
</div>
<div id="banner-button"> WHY CHOOSE US</div>
<div id="anchor-icon"><img src="images/down-icon.png" /></div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Add display:inline-block to .banner-sub class.
.banner-sub {
display: inline-block;
font-family: "Hind",sans-serif !important;
font-size: 24px !important;
font-weight: 400;
padding-top: 200px;
}
jsfiddle
Set display:block; or dispaly:inline-block. <span>is a inline element.
CSS
.banner-sub{
display:block;
font-size: 24px!important;
font-family: 'Hind', sans-serif!important;
font-weight: 400;
padding-top:200px;
}
DEMO HERE
You are applying class .banner-sub on span which is an inline element , as your class .banner-sub does not have any display property set in it , by default display:inline will be set on span as its an inline element.width padding margin wont apply on inline elements (if you are wondering why please see this What is inline , block and Inline-block in css.)
Now for your problem what you can do. i would suggest couple of changes instead of quick-fix (using inline-block) on span.
As i see in you above code you have used h1 tag (default font-size:24px;) but you override it with font-size 42px in your css. so you dont really need h1 here ,instead of using h1 tag use a div and put another div inside instead of span that should be the proper way considering your scenario. posting your code with all the suggested changes.
#banner-wrap {
text-align: center;
}
.banner-title {
padding-top: 75px;
padding-bottom: 40px;
color: #ccc;
font-size: 42px!important;
}
.banner-icons {
width: 780px;
margin: 0 auto!important;
padding-bottom: 50px!important;
}
#banner-button {
padding-bottom: 50px;
}
#banner-content {
background-image: url('../images/banner.png');
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-size: cover;
background-position: center;
}
.banner-sub {
font-size: 24px!important;
font-family: 'Hind', sans-serif!important;
font-weight: 400;
padding-top: 200px;
}
#anchor-icon {
padding-bottom: 30px;
}
<div id="banner-wrap">
<div id="banner" class="container">
<!-- <div class="banner-bg-img">
<img src="images/banner.png" />
</div>-->
<div id="banner-content">
<div class="banner-title">Quality assurance through planning
<div class="banner-sub">Nationwide leaflet distribution and sample delivery</div>

<div class="col span_1_of_4">

</div>
<div class="col span_1_of_4">

</div>
<div class="col span_1_of_4">

</a>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Span element has display:inline by default so padding does not effect it. You have to give display:inline-block or display: block the element(.banner-sub).
#banner-wrap{
text-align: center;
}
.banner-title{
position:absolute;
padding-top: 75px;
padding-bottom: 40px;
color:#ccc;
font-size: 42px!important;
}
.banner-icons{
position:absolute;
width: 780px;
margin: 0 auto!important;
padding-bottom: 50px!important;
}
#banner-button{padding-bottom: 50px;
}
#banner-content{
background-image:url('../images/banner.png');
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-size:cover;
background-position:center;
}
.banner-sub{
font-size: 24px!important;
font-family: 'Hind', sans-serif!important;
font-weight: 400;
padding-top:200px;
}
#anchor-icon{padding-bottom: 30px;}

Why is all content on my home page overflowing the body border? [duplicate]

What is a clearfix?

Closed 7 years ago.
On my home page Kendall_Gregory.html, my body border is ignoring the contents in the body and setting an arbitrary border around the page. It ignores every image that is on the page and the divs around them. The same code works on other pages and i can't figure out why this is the exception.

The reason your border isn't wrapping the image elements is because the image elements are floated and the container hasn't been cleared.
Anytime you float an image or any other object you take it out of the normal flow. This means that the parent container doesn't even know it exists.
There are several ways to address this issue – known as clearfix methods. In this case I've used the overflow property. Add overflow: auto to the container divs.
.no-hover {overflow: auto;}
.on-hover {overflow: auto;}
I tested this code and it solves the problem.
DEMO
Just keep in mind that when using the overflow property you can have different values (auto, hidden, scroll) each of which will have a different effect when content overflows the container. To understand what each value does you can refer to this article: MDN - CSS Overflow Property
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Horizontally center text after floating image CSS HTML

I am having trouble centring text relative to the width of my webpage, next to an image which is set to float to the left of the page.
Here is the HTML code:
<div class="header_img">
<img border="0" src="images/logo.png" alt="Home" width="200" height="35">
</div>
<div class="header">
HOMECONTACT
</div>
And here is the CSS code:
.header {
background:#000000;
font-size: 150%;
color: #666666;
font-family: ProximaNovaLight, Proxima Nova Light;
clear: both;
text-align: center;
display:inline;
}
.header_img {
float: left;
}
I am currently seeing the image floating to the left as I wanted, but the text (within the "header" class) is also floating to the left, next to the image.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Add this to your CSS:
.header { width: 40%; margin: 0 auto; }
and remove:
clear:both
display:inline
will give you:
.header_img {
float: left;
}
.header {
background:#000000;
font-size: 150%;
color: #666666;
font-family: ProximaNovaLight, Proxima Nova Light;
text-align: center;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 40%;
}
<div class="header_img">
<a href="index.php" class="head">
<img border="0" src="images/logo.png" alt="Home" width="200" height="35"/>
</a>
</div>
<div class="header">
HOMECONTACT
</div>
jsFiddle
Here is a way to do it without fixing the width of the .header. It is not clear where the background color (black) should be painted.
.header {
background:#000000;
font-size: 150%;
color: #666666;
font-family: ProximaNovaLight, Proxima Nova Light;
text-align: center;
display:block;
width: auto;
height: 35px; /* match image ? */
}
.header_img {
float: left;
}
<div class="header_img">
<img border="0" src="http://placehold.it/200x35" alt="Home" width="200" height="35">
</div>
<div class="header">
HOMECONTACT

Footer isn't at the bottom of the page

My footer isn't at the bottom of the page.
Solutions I have tried:
- W3C validator (now passed)
- Cleaning up code (indenting etc)
- Checked all divs and tags were ended
None of the above worked, and the problem still persists.
Here is a screen shot of the problem:
Please not the red bar across the middle is the footer. Its meant to be at the bottom, not in the middle of the page.

I have done my best to include any necessary code and edit out any unnecessary CSS.
If anyone could help diagnose what is wrong with my code and/or what I need to add it would be a great help.
It looks like you are floating #what-we-offer. Add clear:both to #footer to make sure you clear all the floating elements.
Try to add clear: both; to your footer's CSS. This should solve the problem.
