Xamarin.Android no stack trace in async method - exception

Anybody maybe found some workaround for this bug:
https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=30513
?
It drives me crazy... the screenshoot is the exception report I got from async method.

Here is another one solution which worked for me.
Just add this handler in your Application or main Activity
AndroidEnvironment.UnhandledExceptionRaiser += delegate(object sender, RaiseThrowableEventArgs args){
typeof (System.Exception).GetField("stack_trace", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance)
.SetValue(args.Exception, null);
throw args.Exception;
};
The explanation is here in the last post https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/45219/stack-trace-not-captured-properly

Okey guys, so I have found workaround for this bug, here is step by step what to do to handle it and let Xamarin.Insights work.
Add text file to Android project(name doesn't matter)and set it
from "Content" in properties to "AndroidEnvironment"
In the text file you created add that flag:
XA_BROKEN_EXCEPTION_TRANSITIONS=true - this flag mean that we will use old, Xamarin.Android 4.x exception handling
Then add android exception global handler in your droid project, it will handle Android exceptions which normally crashes application before your Xamarin.Insights(or other report tool)would be able to do some work.
AndroidEnvironment.UnhandledExceptionRaiser += (sender, args) =>
{
args.Handled = true;
}
And voila, the Xamarin.Insights is ready to work for you :)

MvvmCross with Template10

I'm attempting to create a version of the UWP app for the TipCalc sample here: https://github.com/MvvmCross/MvvmCross-Samples/tree/master/TipCalc
There already is a UWP version in the sample, which works fine. However I'm attempting to use Template10 (https://github.com/Windows-XAML/Template10) and I am having trouble getting the two libraries to work together.
MvvmCross wants me to modify the OnLaunched method, which has a reference to the root Frame. However, Template 10 instead abstracts this method exposing OnStartAsync which has no such reference...
There is an override in Template 10 for CreateRootFrame which seems like the right place to initialize the mvvmcross app, but this doesn't appear to work the way I expected...
Although the launched app DOES navigate to the appropriate page, and does also appear to initialize the view model (a breakpoint on the Start method in the associated VM does get hit), the page itself is blank.
comparing the Visual Tree of both apps reveals that while the existing UWP app from the sample has a Frame:
my Template10 App is loading a Modal Dialog:
I forked the original sample project and added the template 10 version, if you wish to try it for yourself: https://github.com/selaromdotnet/MvvmCross-Samples
Has anyone else been able to integrate MvvmCross with template 10? do you have any idea what i'm doing wrong, and any advice for the best practices in using both of these libraries together?
hmm it turns out that the ModalDialog is the expected behavior for Template10, according to the current docs here: https://github.com/Windows-XAML/Template10/wiki/Docs-|-Bootstrapper
I'm not familiar enough with Template10 to say why this is the case, but it does also say you can change this by overriding OnInitializeAsync, which I did, restoring the original frame in the same way the regular UWP project does:
public override async Task OnInitializeAsync(IActivatedEventArgs args)
{
Frame rootFrame = Window.Current.Content as Frame;
// Do not repeat app initialization when the Window already has content,
// just ensure that the window is active
if (rootFrame == null)
{
// Create a Frame to act as the navigation context and navigate to the first page
rootFrame = new Frame();
if (args.PreviousExecutionState == ApplicationExecutionState.Terminated)
{
//TODO: Load state from previously suspended application
}
// Place the frame in the current Window
Window.Current.Content = rootFrame;
}
if (rootFrame.Content == null)
{
var setup = new Setup(rootFrame);
setup.Initialize();
}
await Task.CompletedTask;
}
This did the trick! I'm sure I still have a ways to go (I believe Template10 has it's own way of restoring state, so I probably shouldn't be doing it here)...
but this at least change finally got me to a working app. IF you know more about what I'm doing incorrectly here or what I should be doing instead, your comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

ASP.NET 5: Configuring IdentityServer3 authentication

I've just started digging into the new ASP.NET 5 by creating a test single page application with the OAuth login. I already know that I can use IdentityServer3 for that purpose and it seems pretty nice. I've found a post by Dominick Baier which is explaining how to set up the IdentityServer3. However, the post seems to be out of date or the identity server itself isn't working with the latest version of the ASP.NET 5 (which is beta7 at the moment).
The problem is, when I try to configure the IdentityServer in the Startup.cs I got an error from VS telling me that IApplicationBuilder has no extension method called UseIdentityServer. And this seems to be true, since in the IdentityServer3 source code they have this extension method declared for IAppBuilder (not IApplicationBuilder).
Here is my code (Startup.cs):
public void Configure(IApplicationBuilder app, IHostingEnvironment env)
{
// Add MVC to the request pipeline.
app.UseMvc();
var options = new IdentityServerOptions
{
Factory = new IdentityServerServiceFactory()
};
app.UseIdentityServer(options);
}
And the error (on the last line) is
'IApplicationBuilder' does not contain a definition for 'UseIdentityServer' and the best extension method overload 'UseIdentityServerExtension.UseIdentityServer(IAppBuilder, IdentityServerOptions)' requires a receiver of type 'IAppBuilder'
Obviously, if I change the parameter type in the Configure method to IAppBuiler, it'll throw a runtime error because the dependency injection will not be able to inject that type. Even if it would, I'd lose the UseMvc() extension method.
So could you point me in the right direction please?
Perhaps I'm just missing something tiny but crucial here.
Thanks in advance!

Retrieve exception message on ajax calls

I'm making from client different ajax calls to web methods in my page. Some of the methods will throw in some cases exceptions. I want to be able to show the message of the exception to the user.
I have found that I can use "<customerrors mode= Off>" but also this approach How to return custom exception message to Ajax call?
The second one seems like a lot of extra coding in JS, but I don't know if the first is acceptable in a production environment.
Could you please advice me on this!
Thank you.
EDIT: Example: I'm adding a new user and validation in my DB says it is already there, I want to be able to show the message in a div/span/label (in a jquery dialog) but in the same page and without page postback.
Create One Error.aspx page and write the following code in global.asax code file.
void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
// Code that runs when an unhandled error occurs
string ErrorMessage = Server.GetLastError().ToString();
Session[ErrorMessage] = ErrorMessage;
Server.ClearError();
Response.Redirect("~/Error.aspx");
}
Write Session[ErrorMessage] on your Error.aspx page.
You will get exception message whenever exception occur in web application and it will show on Error.aspx page.

ejb-3.0 customized exception

My ejb3 application running on JBOSS6 already has a customized Exception handler "Ejbexception.java" which extends Exception class
I want to use the same to trap Exceptions with some number and send back the same to the Client Code for handling gentel message .
ex:
try{
.....
}catch(SQLException ex){
throw new EjbException("1001");
}
Now HOWto get the "1001" on the Client Code ?????
thx in advance
karthik
Did you write this Ejbexception class yourself? If so, that's a poor choice of name, because there's already a javax.ejb.EJBException in the library. However, it will work: when you throw it, the container will transport it to the client, who can then catch it. The string you inserted will be available from the exception's getMessage() method, just like normal.
If you're actually throwing a javax.ejb.EJBException here, then things are slightly different. That exception is aimed at the container, not the client. I actually don't know how it's made visible to the client. My suggestion would be to switch to using a custom exception, which the container will then pass to the client.

"Cannot call method 'indexOf' of undefined" when using Google Chrome (*googlechrome) as Selenium RC target

I'm trying to run a test in Google Chrome 9.0.597.98 beta using Selenium Grid. I'm firing the test off from C# using the default *googlechrome target that ships with Selenium Grid. When I try to open a site, I'm greeted with a "Cannot call method 'indexOf' of undefined" error.
I've found a post from someone who suggests that the solution is to drop security on Chrome a bit by passing in some parameters. This post suggest using something like this:
DefaultSelenium selenium = new DefaultSelenium(location, port, browser, targetPath);
BrowserConfigurationOptions bco = new BrowserConfigurationOptions();
selenium.start(bco.setCommandLineFlags("--disable-web-security"));
For some reason I don't see the BrowserConfigurationOptions anywhere. Is this something that ships with the Selenium dll? Is it something that's not available in the .NET version, but is in others? What options do I have to setting this "--disable-web-security" option and is there a better way of doing this?
Try this
[TestInitialize]
public void PreTest()
{
selenium = new DefaultSelenium("localhost",4444,"googlechrome","http://www.ryanhayes.net")
}
[TestMethod]
public void TestRyanHayesDotNet()
{
selenium.Open("/")
}
removing the / after the ryanhayes.net fixes the problem
Thanks a lot for this, I was looking this information and I got it here!
Now I'm able to run my test in googlechrome, earlier I was getting the same problem.
Following code is working for me:
BrowserConfigurationOptions webSec = new BrowserConfigurationOptions();
selenium.start(webSec.setCommandLineFlags("--disable-web-security"));
You're correct in assuming .Net doesn't have BrowserConfigurationOptions object, but fortunately you don't need it (it's only a thin wrapper). DefaultSelenium has two overrides for the Start() method. One of them takes no parameters and starts the browser normally, but the other takes a string specifying browser options. try selenium.Start("--disable-web-security")
