Scenario:
I have an autocomplete country widget. So when:
I start typing a country name in the textbox, the countries that match that query appears. Lets say I type "Co" and it shows me "Colombia" and "Congo" in a list.
Then I select "Congo".
When I select Congo I want to call a Widget/Container/vtl file/whatever that brings me the information I want formatted the way the widget is formatted. Lest say, all the info of the Congo, Location, Population, a brief description, etc.
I tried with the RestAPI and thought of using dotParse()? But I'm new on this I have no idea if this is even possible. I searched in the docs, but didn't find anything similar.
So how can I do this possible?
I have the Widget created, do I only need to call it via the RestApi?
Do I have to create a Container first?

It sounds like what you want is the RESTful widget API. This is a remote call that will return your widget rendered. See:

I want to add some recipes to a part of my Mediawiki site and have each ingredient create a relevant category.
This is easy to do by hand, but subject to human error - each ingredient has to be entered twice.
for example
* [[category:apples]] apples
* [[category:bananas]] bananas
* [[category:cherries]] cherries
This works, but I feel there should be a way to automate it however I'm not really sure of what the best way forward would be. Is there already an extension to do this (I've searched on all the terms I can think of), should I be writing a script ? Is there some other method to solve this that I should be looking at ?
You could use a template, lets call it Template:Ingredient,
<includeonly>* [[Category:{{{1}}}]] {{{1}}}</includeonly>
Then call it in your page with:
{{Ingredient|apples}}
This will both display the ingredient name and add the page to the category.
Hi I am using an API from Postcode Anywhere, the idea being to add a company by searching by postcode to select the address, this is pretty standard and the code works fine.
Just some background info, PAW works in two stages, 1 the post code search criteria is sent off to their services, which returns an array of possible addresses, you then select the address you want, and in stage 2, the full PAF file for that ID is returned and stored to the table.
The problem I am having is that the array they send includes an Address Field which includes house number and street address in one field, making it difficult to sort alphanumerically.
This is the sample data I have in my table:

As you can see it is not ideal and I have no control on how they send the data.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can search a string based on numbers that can be 1, 11, 2, instead of 01, 02, 03, etc, or at the very least be able to split this into two rows. Also please note, that it most cases, the post code search will result business/property names as well as house numbers, as seen in this example.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Have you considered using a different API provider for the data, Allies Computing (who I work for) have a single step API, where the initial postcode search returns all fields in the response. It also orders these results by premise number/name.

There are also other providers of PAF data that do it this way such as Crafty Clicks and Ideal Postcodes.
It might also be worth checking the PAF license with your provider to ensure you comply with that too.
I would like to select an element out of a JSON file in Mathematica, however, I have never done it before and thus don't know how to proceed.
After import the data from a web server, the data look like this:

Now I would like to select all elements which come after "close ->", hence the closing price and generate a list to plot the historical price chart afterwards.
Does someone know how it works?

I'm using google places api, but it returns the value with different place_id.

I have requested with place id like this :

In this url, you can see that the place_id is "EiJ..."
But in the returning json, i have received different place_id.
"place_id" : "AASS...",
"reference" : "df..."
When I have tried with reference, it was the same.
What did I wrong?
Is this the same location with different place_id?

1) Never post your API key on a public forum. Go get yourself a new one.
2) reference has been deprecated, so you don't need to include it
3) EiJG... doesn't look like a Placeid. My guess is that you are trying to look up a value that doesn't exist and you're getting strange behavior.
Run a Place Search and get the Placeid and try again. You haven't posted what you searched for initially so it's impossible to verify that EiJ... really is a valid Placeid.
You can also have more than one place ID associated with a particular place.
In that case, if you request details using one place ID, you can get another ID back (you used the alternate ID, it returns what it considers the primary).
I found your question how to deal with this because I'll be storing information using their primary key and if it changes it will cause issues since the ID initially comes from their search (I'll get the new ID and not realize it is associated with the information I stored).
I am extremely new to Ruby on Rails, having only a couple days of experience. So far, I have created a new app, and loaded data into the database called name which is comprised of date:string, value:decimal, and unique_id:integer. So now, I can go to "(my local port)/name" and view the table successfully.
What I would like to do is this:
In a new html page, have a SIMILE Timeplot (http://www.simile-widgets.org/timeplot/) with an HTML drop-down list below it in order to select a unique_id and another drop-down box to select a year.
From there, I would like to search through the database and display all of the data on the Timeplot that matches the unique_id and that is in the specified year.
I believe I must make an HTTP GET request for a date_to, date_from, and unique_id, but I do not know how to implement this (admittedly I have been searching the web for ages, but could not figure out the solution).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Edit: Even just advice on what component to tackle first
First you need to create a route for your search such as this:
match "name/search" to: "name#search" as: "name_search", via: :get
Then if you are using AJAX, and using jQuery you make an HTTP request like this:
