small span div with bootstrap 2 - html

i'm using bootstrap 2 and I need to have 3 span, but the one in the middle should be really small to handle an image to show/hide the span on the left.
The problem is that I can't put all three span on the same line. Looks like the span with the image is taking the all place and not just 10px
Here is my code:
<style>
.myspan {
width:10px;
}
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="row-fluid">
<div class="span3" style="background-color: red">this is fluid</div>
<div class="myspan"><img src="~/Images/bullet.png" /></div>
<div class="span9" style="background-color: blue">yeah!</div>
</div>
</div>

You can use span3, span1 and span8 to occupy the 12 column grid and line them up. Use a custom class to specify a width and remove the margin. But use the custom CSS in a higher priority order i.e. new file, loading it after all the CSS so that you need not use !important. Try to avoid inline styles as well.
$('.span1').on('click', function() {
$('.span3').toggle('slow');
});
.small-span img {
margin-left: -15px;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<link href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/twitter-bootstrap/2.3.2/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="row-fluid">
<div class="span3" style="background-color: tomato">this is fluid</div>
<div class="span1 small-span">
<img src="http://placehold.it/25x25" />
</div>
<div class="span8" style="background-color: lightblue">yeah!</div>
</div>
</div>

Issue with text not showing due to Overflow Hidden

So bit of background on my issue. I'm using an external carousel and I am trying to modify each image section to include text. There seems to be an overflow:hidden on the sp-carousel-frame class that is making it not visible but without this the unselected images on either side go full size.
I basically need the item-text class to be displayed.
I really hope I explained this ok.
I'm going include an image that shows the issue below.
HTML
<script src="https://wordpress-84115-1849710.cloudwaysapps.com/wp-content/themes/inspiration-marketing-theme/assets/js/carousel.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://stackpath.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.5.2/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<div class="container collaboration-header">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
<h1>Collaboration and Teamwork</h1>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="container main-carousel">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
<div class="sp-carousel-frame sp-carousel-frame-pos">
<div class="sp-carousel-inner">
<div class="sp-carousel-item" style="overflow: visible !important;">
<img src="https://gdxdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Main-Slider-Image.jpg"/>
<div class="item-text">
Hello World
</div>
</div>
<div class="sp-carousel-item"><img src="https://gdxdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Left-Slider-Image.jpg"/>
</div>
<div class="sp-carousel-item"><img src="https://gdxdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Right-Slider-Image.jpg"/>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS
.collaboration-header h1{
text-align: center;
padding: 1.5em 0;
}
.main-carousel {
margin-bottom: 20% !important;
}
The JSFiddle Below:
Here is my JSFiddle
Add Class this carousel-caption on item-text
<div class="item-text carousel-caption">
Hello World
</div>
https://jsfiddle.net/lalji1051/3hyb82fg/1/
OK I got it solved basically although I probably need to tweak it a bit to get it perfect what I did was disable the overflow:hidden on the sp-carousel-frame and change it to visible. Then on the parent div col-md-12 I attached another class called overflow:
HTML
<div class="col-md-12 overflow">
<div class="sp-carousel-frame sp-carousel-frame-pos">
<div class="sp-carousel-inner">
<div class="sp-carousel-item" style="overflow: visible !important;">
<img src="/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Main-Slider-Image.jpg"/>
<div class="item-text">
Hello Hows it going like
</div>
</div>
<div class="sp-carousel-item"><img src="/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Left-Slider-Image.jpg"/>
</div>
<div class="sp-carousel-item"><img src="/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Right-Slider-Image.jpg"/>
</div>
</div>
</div><!-- End sp-carousel-frame -->
<hr />
</div><!-- Close Col-md-12 -->
CSS:
.sp-carousel-frame {
overflow: visible !important;
}
.overflow {
overflow: hidden !important;
padding: 0 !important;
}

Text in bootstrap text-well won't center

I'm trying to create a virtual roulette wheel. Right now my concerns are strictly aesthetic. In the text-well on the right, the number in the #chipsInv won't center, except when I put an html "center" tag, and then for some reason it creates a huge amount of empty space at the bottom.
Here is my code, I've left out the Javascript since I assume it's irrelevant:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<!-- Latest compiled and minified CSS -->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<!-- jQuery library -->
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<!-- Latest compiled JavaScript -->
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<style>
#ball {
position: absolute;
left: 208px;
top: 40px;
z-index: 1;
width: 20px;
height: 20px;
transition: top 1s;
}
#wheel {}
form {}
.row {
padding: 20px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-lg-5">
<img id="ball" src="ball.png" onclick="spin()"></img>
<img id="wheel" src="Rwheelbg.png" onclick="spin()"></img>
</div>
<div class="col-lg-1">
<button id="reset" onclick="reset()">Reset</button>
</div>
<div class="col-lg-6">
<div class="well well-lg">
<span><center>Chips</center></span>
<br>
<span style="font-size: 180px; text-align: center;" id="chipsInv">10</span>
<!-- Why won't this center!? -->
<br>
<span style="float:right;" id="purchase"><a style = "color:green !important;" href = "#">$ Purchase More Chips?</a></span>
</div>
</div>
<!-- Row ends here -->
</div>
<p>Bet on:</p>
<form action="">
<input type="checkbox" name="21" value="310" id="310"> 21
<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="9" value="100" id="100"> 9
<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="14" value="120" id="120"> 14
<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="13" value="240" id="240"> 13
</form>
<p>Bet on up to four numbers. However, be warned, the more numbers you bet on, the lower your chip return will be.</p>
<!-- container ends here -->
</div>
</body>
</html>
In Bootstrap, as best you can / where you can, use the Bootstrap classes to provide the styling you're looking for, as the Bootstrap classes are designed to be compatible with one another.
<div class="col-lg-6">
<div class="well well-lg">
<div class="text-center">Chips</div>
<div class="text-center" style="font-size: 180px;" id="chipsInv">10</div>
<div class="float-right" id ="purchase"><a style = "color:green !important;" href = "#">$ Purchase More Chips?</a></div>
</div>
</div>
If you want to text center everything in your example you can simply add the text-center class next to your well well-lg classes, as follows :
<div class="col-lg-6">
<div class="well well-lg text-center">
<div>Chips</div>
<div style="font-size: 180px;" id="chipsInv">10</div>
<div class="float-right" id ="purchase"><a style = "color:green !important;" href = "#">$ Purchase More Chips?</a></div>
</div>
</div>
Additionally;
with Bootstrap, they recommend you use div's where possible, and then
you can specify different behaviour by modifying the classes of those
divs, such as "d-inline", or "d-block". That was the reason I changed
your spans to divs.
Ensure your col-lg-6 div is contained within a div with class "row", and that according to the docs, these divs specifying col div when added together do not exceed 12. Bootstrap Grid Docs

exclude div from parent style

I'm trying to override the .container class in bootstrap. I'm using Drupal 7 and I have a css file for my theme which is working perfectly until I want to override the .container
my HTML
<div class="main-container <?php print $container_class; ?>">
<div class="top-div" style=" width:100%;background-color: #676767; font-weight:bold; color:white;">
<div class="row" style="text-align:center;">
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text</div>
</div>
</div>
that PHP code will insert the class .container
I need to give the div with class .top-diva 100% size without any padding from the .container I've tried the child > selector and descendant selector and the :not(.top-div) methods nothing works. When I use the :not(.top-div) it applies changes on each and every page and element on the website AND the div which contains the .top-div which is really weird. Suggestions?
In bootstrap, the padding is applied on the container, not the inner divs. To override this on one element you need to give it negative horizontal margins.
Something like:
.container .top-div {
margin-left:-10px;
margin-right:-10px;
}
Where 10px should be replaced by the padding on .main-container.
If this doesn't work right away you may need greater specificity
Bootstrap's built-in .row class uses this method
Why don't you try:
.main-container {
position:relative;
}
.top-div {
position:absolute;
left:0;
top:0;
}
<div class="main-container <?php print $container_class; ?>">
<div class="top-div" style=" width:100%;background-color: #676767; font-weight:bold; color:white;">
<div class="row" style="text-align:center;">
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text</div>
</div>
</div>
If you are using bootstrap css than you don't need to give any custom css
You try to just add row class in your top-div class
it's a in built in bootstrap.css So no need for any extra custom css.
.row {
margin-left: -10px;
margin-right: -10px;
}
Example
<div class="main-container <?php print $container_class; ?>">
<div class="top-div row" style=" width:100%;background-color: #676767; font-weight:bold; color:white;">
<div class="row" style="text-align:center;">
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text</div>
</div>
</div>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.2.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<div class="main-container <?php print $container_class; ?>">
<div class="top-div row" style=" width:100%;background-color: #676767; font-weight:bold; color:white;">
<div class="row" style="text-align:center;">
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text </div>
<div class="col-md-4"> text</div>
</div>
</div>
Hope this will helps you.

Bootstrap layout outside of container

I'd like to use Twitter Bootstrap for one project which has a bit of a crazy layout.
The logo's background should start from the edge of the window, but the text in the logo should start where the .container begins.
Crazy, huh!
I'm not sure how to explain this so I drew it!
What I've done so far is this:
<div class="container">
<header>
<div id="logo" class="pull-left col-sm-3 bg-theme">
<div class="typography">
Dope
<br/>
Text
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-9">
<nav class="pull-right"> nav should be here </nav>
</div>
</header>
<!-- header -->
</div>
#logo {
position: relative;
height: 100px;
background: #ffd800;
}
.typography {
position: absolute;
right: 0px;
top: 20px;
line-height: 50px;
font-size: 50px;
font-weight: bold;
}
I created a demo#jsFiddle.
How should I structure my HTML, or what can I do with the CSS to achieve this effect.
CSS only solutions if possible.
Edit: Those kind of title element might appear on the page again, so solutions which are based on the fact that the element will be at the top of the page are not what I'm after.
First of all you have to take into account Grid System Rules:
Some Bootstrap grid system rules:
Rows must be placed within a .container (fixed-width) or .container-fluid (full-width) for proper alignment and padding
Use rows to create horizontal groups of columns
Content should be placed within columns, and only columns may be immediate children of rows
Predefined classes like .row and .col-sm-4 are available for quickly making grid layouts
Columns create gutters (gaps between column content) via padding. That padding is offset in rows for the first and last column via
negative margin on .rows
Grid columns are created by specifying the number of 12 available columns you wish to span. For example, three equal columns would use
three .col-sm-4
So following the above rules you can achieve what you want like this:
Here a working JSFiddle fork from yours
#logo {
position: relative;
height: 100px;
background: #ffd800;
}
.container {
height: 500px;
}
.typography {
line-height: 35px;
font-size: 35px;
font-weight: bold;
padding-left: 0 !important; /*only because bootstrap are overwriting my styles*/
}
<link href="http://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.4/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<div class="wrapper container-fluid">
<header>
<div class="row">
<div id="logo" class="pull-left col-xs-5 bg-theme">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-offset-5 col-xs-7 typography">Dope
<br/>Text</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-7">
<nav class="pull-right">nav should be here</nav>
</div>
</div>
</header>
<div class="row">
<div class="container col-xs-offset-2 col-xs-8">
<p>Here you can put the content</p>
<p>and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more content</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
You can change the # in col-xs-X as you wish to obtain your desire layout but always trying to follow the above rules.
I recommend making the following changes.
Start by making a .container-fluid
Then move your .container into your .container-fluid
lastly, move your header above your .container, but inside your .container-fluid
Once complete it should look something like.
<div class="container-fluid">
<header class="col-md-12>
<div id="logo" class="pull-left col-sm-3 bg-theme">
<div class="typography">
Dope
<br/>
Text
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-9">
<nav class="pull-right"> nav should be here </nav>
</div>
</header>
<!-- Header -->
<div class="container">
<!-- Other content -->
</div>
</div>
would something like this work? http://jsfiddle.net/swm53ran/312/
if you want to see how the structure could happen over and over again, you could just add the sectioned off divs like in this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/swm53ran/313/
<div class="body">
<div class="header col-xs-12">
<div class="row">
<div class="title col-xs-offset-1 col-xs-5">
This is the title
</div>
<div class="nav col-xs-5">
This is your nav
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="container col-xs-10 col-xs-offset-1">
This is where your content goes.
</div>
</div>
Use the grid system to isolate header and body:
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-4">.col-md-4</div>
<div class="col-md-8">.col-md-8</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-2">.col-md-2</div>
<div class="col-md-4">.col-md-8</div>
<div class="col-md-2">.col-md-2</div>
</div>
</div>
Use .container-fluid for the content you want to be full width instead of the fixed-width that comes with .container.
Per Bootstrap:
Rows must be placed within a .container (fixed-width) or .container-fluid (full-width) for proper alignment and padding.
If you want container-fluid to go the absolute edge of the window, you can set padding: 0; like:
.container-fluid {
padding: 0;
}
Here's a fiddle demo for you to review. http://jsfiddle.net/xsqezfro/ (I put a border around .container so you can see the div.
#logo {
display:inline-flex;
margin-left:-200px;
background: #ffd800;
}
#logo .typography {
margin-left:200px;
}

Bootstrap 3: Missing gutters

Just started playing around with bootstrap 3 and I can't get gutters between columns to work.
I created the most basic code to test with:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Test</title>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery.js"></script>
<script src="//netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.0.0-rc1/js/bootstrap.min.js"> </script>
<link href="//netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.0.0-rc1/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen" />
<style>
.box1 {
background-color: green;
}
.box2 {
background-color: blue;
}
</style>
</head>
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-lg-4 box1">
<h1>Test</h1>
</div>
<div class="col-lg-8 box2">
<h1>Test2</h1>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</html>
And the result is just one big green/blue box without any gutter in between the two columns.
I have also tried it on a fiddle with no luck http://jsfiddle.net/Tgkkb/
What am I missing?
Bootstrap 3 switched to using padding for the gutters rather than margins. So, the content is parted, but the boxes aren't. And a background-color will fill the padding as well.
Though, you should be able to get the desired effect by setting the background on inner boxes:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-4">
<div class="box1">
<h1>Test</h1>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-8">
<div class="box2">
<h1>Test2</h1>
</div>
</div>
</div>
http://jsfiddle.net/PFxUk/
Though, the goal is just to apply the background to a single, wrapping child. So, if the headers definitely won't have any siblings, then you can possibly forgo the additional <div>s:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-4">
<h1 class="box1">Test</h1>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-8">
<h1 class="box2">Test2</h1>
</div>
</div>
http://jsfiddle.net/G2gbG/
If you want to set the padding or margin for your columns, you can use the row-no-gutters class on the row (introduced in v3.4.0) and add your own padding and background.
https://getbootstrap.com/docs/3.4/css/#grid-remove-gutters
