I've got an issue with my chat window, every long message overflows onto the x, and I'm trying to force it to over flow onto the height / y axis, I've tried adding overflow-x:none; and height:auto;, but doesnt seem to work.
This is what it looks like:http://www.socialnetwk.com/chatbug.png
Here is my code:
<style>
.chat-box {

I am trying to create a speech bubble with an arrow on the left and right side. Something like below
I have used the below CSS to achieve the same :
.speech-wrapper{
padding: 30px 40px;
}
.chatbox {
padding: 5px;
margin-left: 5px;
margin-right: 5px;
margin-top:3px;
background: #c7edfc;
color: #000;
position: relative;
border-radius: 4px;
overflow-wrap: break-word;
word-wrap: break-word;
hyphens: auto;
}
.chatbox_other{
padding: 5px;
margin-left: 5px;
margin-right: 5px;
margin-top:3px;
background: #D3D3D3;
color: #000;
position: relative;
border-radius: 4px;
overflow-wrap: break-word;
word-wrap: break-word;
hyphens: auto;
}
.name_other{
font-weight: 600;
position: absolute;
font-size: 12px;
margin: 0 0 4px;
color: #3498db;
bottom: 8px;
right: 10px;
}
.timestamp_other{
font-size: 11px;
position: absolute;
text-align: left;
bottom: 0px;
left: 10px;
text-transform: uppercase; color: #999
}
.timestamp{
font-size: 11px;
position: absolute;
bottom: 8px;
right: 10px;
text-transform: uppercase; color: #999
}
/* speech bubble 13 */
.name{
font-weight: 600;
font-size: 12px;
margin: 0 0 4px;
color: #3498db;
}
.bubble-arrow {
position: absolute;
width: 0;
bottom:42px;
left: -16px;
height: 0;
&.alt{
right: -2px;
bottom: 40px;
left: auto;
}
}
.bubble-arrow:after {
content: "";
position: absolute;
border: 0 solid transparent;
border-top: 9px solid #c7edfc;
border-radius: 0 20px 0;
width: 15px;
height: 30px;
transform: rotate(145deg);
}
.bubble-arrow.alt:after {
transform: rotate(45deg) scaleY(-1);
}
But for me, the arrow is missing always it always comes with a box.
I am a beginner to HTML and CSS any help on this will be appreciated.
Am I doing anything wrong to draw the rectangle?
EDIT:
I can see the chat bubble on chrome and all recent browsers but when I try using the very old browsers the below statement does not decode correctly. So the chat triangle was not in the appropriate position.
transform: rotate(145deg);
}
.bubble-arrow.alt:after {
transform: rotate(45deg) scaleY(-1);
}
HTML CODE:
<div class="speech-wrapper"><div class="chatbox"><div class="txt"><p class="name">TestUser1</p>Hi<span class="timestamp">10:20 pm</span></div><div class="bubble-arrow alt"></div></div>
Is there anything else can I use apart from the transform
Try this,
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>

I'm looking to achieve this with CSS:
and this is what I've got:
.breadcrumb {
list-style: none;
overflow: hidden;
font: 18px Helvetica, Arial, Sans-Serif;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
.breadcrumb li {
float: left;
}
.breadcrumb li a {
border: 1px solid #c00;
color: black;
text-decoration: none;
padding: 10px 0 10px 55px;
background: #fff;
position: relative;
display: block;
float: left;
}
.breadcrumb li a:after {
content: " ";
display: block;
width: 0;
height: 0;
border-top: 50px solid transparent;
/* Go big on the size, and let overflow hide */
border-bottom: 50px solid transparent;
border-left: 30px solid #fff;
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
margin-top: -50px;
left: 100%;
z-index: 2;
}
.breadcrumb li a:before {
content: " ";
display: block;
width: 0;
height: 0;
border-top: 50px solid transparent;
/* Go big on the size, and let overflow hide */
border-bottom: 50px solid transparent;
border-left: 30px solid red;
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
margin-top: -50px;
margin-left: 1px;
left: 100%;
z-index: 1;
}
.breadcrumb li:first-child a {
padding-left: 10px;
}
.breadcrumb li a:hover {
background: hsla(34, 85%, 25%, 1);
}
.breadcrumb li a:hover:after {
border-left-color: hsla(34, 85%, 25%, 1) !important;
}
.breadcrumb li:last-child a {
border-right: 1px solid red;
}
.breadcrumb li:last-child a:before {
border-left: 0 solid transparent;
}
<ul class="breadcrumb">
<li>Home</li>
<li>Vehicles</li>
</ul>
Issues:
Can't get the right side borders to show correctly
Can't get the right border of last element to be normal (not a chevron)
Can't get hover state right because of right side borders.
Here's is my working jsFiddle
.breadcrumb {

Javascript in the fiddle.
Here's the jsfiddle:
http://codepen.io/anon/pen/LpxVdv
Now, when I hover over the items, say on Central Compliance, then the remaining items below it (Control Room, Wealth Applications etc.) disappear. And if I over over Control Room, then Orchestria comes in the white space.
How can this be fixed??
add this to your css:
.third-menu{
position: absolute;
right:0;
top:0;
}
.dropdown-submenu {
border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc;
position:relative;
}
It doesn't disapeare, the active item expands to have enought height to contain menu from next level. Try using position:absolute for next level container.
How this one can achieved in CSS. I googled out but i didn't find any solution.
Try this:
HTML
<nav class="nav">
<ul>
<li>1. Account Info</li>
<li>2. Verification</li>
<li>3. Enjoy</li>
</ul>
</nav>
StyleSheet
.nav ul {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
list-style: none;
overflow: hidden;
width: 100%;
}
.nav ul li {
float: left;
margin: 0 .2em 0 1em;
}
.nav ul a {
background: red;
padding: .3em 1em;
float: left;
text-decoration: none;
color: #fff;
position: relative;
}
.nav ul li:first-child a:before {
content: normal;
}
.nav ul li:last-child a:after {
content: normal;
}
.nav ul a:before {
content: "";
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
margin-top: -1.5em;
border-width: 1.5em 0 1.5em 1em;
border-style: solid;
border-color: red rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);
left: -1em;
margin-left: 1px;
}
.nav ul a:after {
content: "";
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
margin-top: -1.5em;
border-top: 1.5em solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);
border-bottom: 1.5em solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);
border-left: 1em solid red;
right: -1em;
margin-right: 1px;
}
Here is the Demo
Try:
HTML:
<div class="arrow">
<p>1. Acount Info</p>
</div>
<div class="arrow2">
<p>2. Verification</p>
</div>
<div class="arrow3">
<p>3. Enjoy</p>
</div>
CSS:
.arrow {
width: 200px;
height: 33px;
background-color: red;
border: 1px solid red;
position: relative;
display:inline-block;
}
.arrow:after {
content:'';
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
left: 201px;
width: 0;
height: 0;
border: 17px solid transparent;
border-left: 12px solid red;
}
.arrow2 {
width: 200px;
height: 33px;
background-color: red;
border: 1px solid red;
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
margin-left: 8px;
}
.arrow2:after {
content:'';
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
left: 201px;
width: 0;
height: 0;
border: 17px solid transparent;
border-left: 12px solid red;
}
.arrow2:before {
content:'';
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
left: -1px;
width: 0;
height: 0;
border: 17px solid transparent;
border-left: 12px solid white;
}
.arrow3 {
width: 200px;
height: 33px;
background-color: red;
border: 1px solid red;
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
margin-left: 8px;
}
.arrow3:before {
content:'';
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
left: -1px;
width: 0;
height: 0;
border: 17px solid transparent;
border-left: 12px solid white;
}
p {
color:white;
text-align: center;
margin-top: 6px;
}
And the DEMO
Here's my attempt: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/xDeCd/
This example works well even if the user changes his font-size or triggers a page zoom. List-items should not break in several lines if the browser is resized.

Markup
<ol>
<li>1. Account info</li>
<li>2. Verification</li>
<li>3. Enjoy</li>
</ol>
(add links if/where necessary, I've just supposed they are not links but simply information labels about the required steps during a process).
