I have a table with a div placed into it. The div is superimposed on top of several of the table cells (by design). But the border is still visible through the div, even though the div isn't transparent at all. Here is what it looks like:
Why is the border visible through the div? How would one go about preventing the border from showing through the div, and making the div completely transparent?
Here's a jsfiddle demonstrating it, and here's my html and css:
html:
<table class="mytable">
<tr>
<td>
<div style='height:64px' class='mydiv'>
</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
css:
.mytable tr:nth-child(4n + 2) {
background-color: #9f9f9f;
}
.mytable th {
font-size: 10px;
height: 25px;
font-family: arial, tahoma;
font-weight: bold;
vertical-align: top;
text-align: center;
border-width: 1px;
border-color: #000000;
border-style: solid;
padding: 0px;
}
.mytable td {
height: 8px;
width: 80px;
border-bottom-style: dashed;
border-right-style: solid;
border-bottom-color: #666666;
border-right-color: #666666;
border-width: 1px;
padding: 0px;
margin-right: 1px;
position: relative;
}
.mydiv {
background-color: #FFFFFF;
border-style: solid;
border-color: #000000;
border-width: 1px;
text-align: center;
vertical-align: middle;
font-family: tahoma, arial;
font-size: 10px;
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
left: 0px;
width: inherit;
}
Just givez-index: 1; to .mydiv

I have table and inside this table button and textbox.
Here the code:

My question is how can I make a button and textbox inside the table cell in the table above to get the full height of the row(I tried height:100%)?
Couple of things:
You have already defined 8px of padding under #dvStockCard table td{...} that's why you had default padding for all. Considering you need that padding I have overridden the td padding for last row.
Use border-collapse: collapse; for the row and padding & margin to 0 for td. Now you can use your desired height for that row.
#dvStockCard {
border-style: solid;
border-width: thin;
padding: 12px 5px 5px 5px;
}
.title {
font-size: small;
border-top: 2px solid #686868;
color: #383838;
padding: 8px calc(100% - 10ch) 0px 0px;
}
/*----table styles----*/
#dvStockCard table {
font-family: sans-serif;
font-weight: 600;
border-collapse: collapse;
width: 100%;
font-size: x-small;
}
#dvStockCard table tr {
border-bottom: 2px solid lightgray;
color: #707070;
}
#dvStockCard table td {
padding: 8px;
}
#dvStockCard table tr td:nth-child(2) {
text-align: right;
}
/*------values styles------*/
.val {
font-size: small;
color: black;
}
#lastPrice {
font-family: 'Palatino Linotype';
font-size: 160%;
color: black;
}
#change {
font-family: 'Palatino Linotype';
font-size: 160%;
color: green;
}
.halfWidth {
position: relative;
;
width: 50%;
}
/*-------helpers styles--------*/
.spaceTop-10 {
margin-top: 10px
}
.spaceBottom-10 {
margin-bottom: 10px
}
.trClass {
border-collapse: collapse;
}
.trClass td {
height: 40px;
padding: 0 !important;
/* need this because you already used 8px to the td*/
margin: 0 !important;
/* need this because you already used 8px to the td*/
}
.fullWidth {
width: 100%;
}
.fullHeight {
height: 100%;
}
<div id="dvStockCard">

You could try wrapping it up in a container and later set it to 100% height. If not, you could try setting the height in px, you go trying different measurements until you see which one fills your desire. I hope I could help you
I have a strange formatting issue. I have an MVC application that uses Bootstrap 4. When I specify the width of the table using a style="width:xx%" attribute on the declaration, the background color of the caption row only extends across part of the table. If I don't specify the width, the background color works perfectly. I've attached a snip that displays an example of a table using auto width, and a table where I've set the width to 70%.
The container is "container-fluid body-content input-group-sm". The _layout.cshtml includes the following style tags, though I'm only referencing the "table mytable" style in this example, as you'll see in the View source below.
body {
padding-top: 5px;
margin-left: 10px;
font-size: 14px;
}
tr {
line-height: 10px;
min-height: 10px;
height: 10px;
/*padding: 0 !important;*/
}
td {
padding: 5px;
}
.table th,
.table td {
padding: 5px 8px;
}
.mytable>tbody>tr>td,
.mytable>tbody>tr>th,
.mytable>tfoot>tr>td,
.mytable>tfoot>tr>th,
.mytable>thead>tr>td,
.mytable>thead>tr>th {

border-width: 1px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 4px;
border-color: rgb(204, 204, 204);
display: inline-block;
margin-right: 2px;

border-top-left-radius: 3px;
border-top-right-radius: 3px;
border-color: rgb( 204, 204, 204);
}

I'm absolutely no expert on style sheets, so if this is a newbie level question, I apologize. I've done quite a bit of googling to try and understand this, but have come up empty. Any hints on why this is happening, and suggestions on how to correct it would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Remove display: inline-block from .mytable class.

I'm fairly new to HTML so please bear with me. I'm trying to create a printable invoice in html. I'm having an issue with placing the top 2 tables side by side. Despite using inline-block, the tables are not being stacked next to each other
What am I doing wrong? Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

i used ur code and mould it little like wrapping tables inside div and add css accordingly
The easiest : You can turn those 2 tables into table-cell, so they'll stick together side by side (demo below),
else: you'll need to float them or a wrapper to hold them and some extra CSS to keep them side by side no matter what the width avalaible. (possibly inline-block along white-space )
.Info {
display:table-cell;
}
body {
padding: 1%;
padding-top: 3%;
font-family: Arial, Arial Black;
font-size: small;
}
.RetailerLogo {

.RetailerLogo img {

Try implementing the declaration display: grid to build your tables side-by-side. The grid value offers fully responsive 'boxes' that can be stacked as you wish.
This is a simple layout~
HTML
<section class="tableGrid">
<div>
<div>
<p>Row 1 - Table 1</p>
</div>
<div>
<p>Row 2 - Table 1</p>
</div>
</div>
<!-- ********************** -->
<div>
<div>
<p>Row 1 - Table 2</p>
</div>
<div>
<p>Row 2 - Table 2</p>
</div>
</div>
</section>
and CSS
.tableGrid {
margin: 4vh 8vw;
padding: 16px;
display: grid;
grid-template-rows: auto;
grid-gap: 16px;
}
.table {
border: 4px dotted red;
}
#media (min-width: 800px) {
.tableGrid {
margin: 8vh 16vw;
padding: 32px;
display: grid;
grid-template-columns: repeat(2, 1fr);
grid-template-rows: repeat(auto-fit: minmax(88px 1fr);
grid-gap: 24px;
}
}

Hello for some reason I have a button that is breaking the bottom border that I have already set in place for my table. I eventually want to do this for all of my rows, but I would like to know how to prevent that from happening. Each row in my table should have a button, but I'd like to keep my borders intact.

So, you must put button into td, because it's in table, but you're applying the border-bottom property to td so you have border under button, if you want to remove it you can add a class no-border and apply it to td in which you have your button so look at code, and you'll have only two columns have border, or another solution is to add <td></td> or <th></th> where appropriate into every <tr>that has no button.
table{
color: #26004d;
width: 70%;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
border-collapse: collapse;
font-size: 30px;
}
th, td{
padding: 30px 50px 30px 50px;
border-bottom: 1px solid #862d59;
}
.no-border{
border:none;
}
th{
color: black;
}
tr:hover{
background-color: lightgreen;
}
.button{
background-color: #26004d;
color: white;
font-size: 20px;
border:none;
padding: 10px 18px;
text-align: center;
text-decoration: none;
display: table-cell;
}
<div id="inner">
<table>
<thead>
<tr>
<th>Pet</th>
<th>Price</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>Cat</td>
<td>$10</td>
<td class="no-border"><button class="button">Buy Now</button></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Lion</td>
<td>$40</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Flamingo</td>
<td>$50</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Panda</td>
<td>$1000</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
</div>
Problem: Uneven number of column inside each row.
Solution: Either enter blank <td></td> or use colspan.
table{
color: #26004d;
width: 70%;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
border-collapse: collapse;
font-size: 30px;
}
th, td{
padding: 30px 50px 30px 50px;
border-bottom: 1px solid #862d59;
}
th{
color: black;
}
tr:hover{
background-color: lightgreen;
}
.button{
background-color: #26004d;
color: white;
font-size: 20px;
border:none;
padding: 10px 18px;
text-align: center;
text-decoration: none;
display: table-cell;
}
<div id="inner">
<table>
<thead>
<tr>
<th>Pet</th>
<th>Price</th>
<th></th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>Cat</td>
<td>$10</td>
<td><button class="button">Buy Now</button></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Lion</td>
<td colspan="2">$40</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Flamingo</td>
<td>$50</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Panda</td>
<td>$1000</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
</div>
I am working with a CSS table, and having an unexpected result - the table columns do not line up properly. This is what the table looks like
Here is the CSS
* {
/* old-style reset here :) */
border: 0px;
padding: 0px;
}
table {
border-collapse: separate;
border: 1px solid #9DABCE;
border-width: 0px 0px 1px 1px;
margin: 10px auto;
font-size: 20px;
width:90%;
}
td, th {
width: 41px;
height: 41px;
text-align: center;
font-size: 18px;
font-weight: bold;
vertical-align: middle;
background: url(../img/cells.png);
color: #444;
position: relative;
}
th {
font-weight: bold;
font-size: 14px;
}
td.today {
background-position: 81px 0px;
color: white;
}
And here is the table HTML
<table cellspacing="0">
<thead>
<th>Core Measure</th><th>National Average</th>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td class="today">Discharge Instructions</td>
<td class="today">91%</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="today">Measure LV Systolic Function</td>
<td class="today">98%</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="today">ACE/ARB for LVSD</td>
<td class="today">95%</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="today">Smoking Cessation</td>
<td class="today">99%</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
<tfoot>
<th>Core Measure</th><th>National Average</th>
</tfoot>
</table>
Assistance fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
It is something to do with your sprite and the background-position values you set. I made a fiddle for you and it seems okay.
