Is there an easy way of highlighting a region on Google Maps? - google-maps

Other than drawing a polygon in Google Maps API, is there a way for me to get the "Northwest Washington DC" region on a Google map? When I search this area in Google maps itself, it has a nice highlighting effect which I like to replicate in my own website.
The issue with drawing the polygon is that I wouldn't really know how to get the correct LatLng coordinates for the polygon's path!

You can try using Google Geo Charts
A geochart is a map of a country, a continent, or a region with areas
identified in one of three ways:
The region mode colors whole regions, such as countries, provinces, or states.
The markers mode uses circles to designate regions that are scaled according to a value that you specify.
The text mode labels the regions with identifiers (e.g., "Russia" or "Asia").

Google Maps draw area / shape / region and export as latitude longitude

I need a Google Map with marked up areas with different colors.
GADM data
The first article I came across was this one:
https://ourcodeworld.com/articles/read/830/how-to-highlight-an-area-city-state-or-country-in-google-maps-with-javascript
It links to this service for getting coordinates:
https://gadm.org/download_country_v3.html
The problem is that there are too many points so it would end up with 3MB for an embedded map.
Google Maps draw
Then I tried Google Maps service to draw a shape. While it works, I could not find any export function to get the longitude and latitude.

Question
How can I draw an area on a map and then get longitude and latitude for the points? On Google Maps, a tool or something else does not matter.
I solved my problem very differently. I simply used an svg file of just the country and highlighted areas there.
I used this site:

Google Maps: Draw polygon surrounding random locations

I have a set of random locations. The location set will keep changing. I would like to draw a polygon surrounding these locations.
Can this be done in Google Maps and how? The map will be displayed on a website only, no mobile api required.
It's called a convex hull. Here:

I would cite the code but it belongs to #geocodezip who is the authority on google maps and runs an excellent site of examples. I suggest you check it out.

Drawing shapes in Here Maps and affect any markers that are within shape's boundaries

I am using the HERE Map Javascript tools and I have a map with various markers. I want users to be able to draw a shape using their mouse on the map. Any markers that are within the shape's bounds should be "touched" (i.e. updated with my prefs etc.).
I see that Google Maps users are able to do it, as in the following post: Box/Rectangle Draw Selection in Google Maps
I wonder if it's possible to do this easily using Here Maps?

Google maps embed API fallback coordinates

I have a website that contains a database of places, mostly stores and small businesses, and i want to add a google map for every business on the site. I have a name and coordinates for each business, but not all of them are listed on google maps. If i make a Google Maps Embed API map like this:
https://www.google.com/maps/embed/v1/place?key=APIKEY&q=Place name
I will get a marker on that place, but if that place is not found, is it possible to make it put a marker on the coordinates provided?
I know i can just use the coordinates without any name, but in case the place is listed on google maps, querying its name instead of coordinates will display details about the place
Yes you can still place a marker as long as you have the lat and long.
You can add your business to Google Map over here.

Adding the marker to Google Maps external link

I have website that uses Google maps to plot the location of registered businesses. This uses javascript and shows the orange marker to pinpoint the exact location. I'm trying to build a link to the actual google maps page and my code is doing what I want it to except the marker doesn't show up. Is there another peice of code I can add to this to make it show up?
Full Sized Map
To add a pin you need the q parameter. It holds q=latitude+longitude+(url-encoded-text)
Here is an example of hybrid map with weather - pin at Embassy Suites, map centered on Horseshoe Falls
https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=43.076,-79.074&spn=0.0212,0.0496&t=h&z=16&q=43.0795N+79.0818W+(Nice%20Hotel)&lci=weather
hl= two letter language code
ll= the map center using coma
separated +/- values
spn= the viewport span in degrees, works with
the z parameter
t= map type {m|k|h|p}
z= is the zoom factor
q= latitude+longitude+(url-encoded-text), the lat/lon in q have to be
followed by a letter - N/S or E/W instead of using +/-
lci= special codes, coma separated - i know of weather, transit_comp, com.panoramio.all
layer= additional layers, e.g. t for traffic
Google is changing things with the new Google Maps and a lot of functionality has been removed/replaced. You can check the new Maps Engine here http://mapsengine.google.com/map/
