Is there any way I can write back to the database in the report?
I know that I can use the parameters at the top to pass a value and insert the data into the database with sql.
I'd like to have an editable field in my report with an initial value and the possibility to save the changes to the database.
Any chance to do this with SSRS?
Maybe some kind of add-on?
If not, is there an free alternative reporting engine that can do the job?
I know Infor BI can be used for such tasks, but the licenses are expensive, especially if this is the only benefit.
You cannot have an editable field on a report for any reason (doesn't exist). Like others have alluded to, you can use parameters to insert values back into the database, or have a button image that reloads the page with a new hidden parameter value that then gets inserted into a database.
You will need a different application/technology to achieve what you are looking for.
Yes there is, when do you a dataset you can set it to be retrieved from a query.
for some reason the image is not showingm basically when you configure your dataset in dataset properties, go the query menu on the left, select a datasource, and on the query type choose text and from there you can put any sql you want : for example :
Make sure your user has write permission on the database

Welcome, all
I would like to create a small web application, which needs to scrape data from another website and save the results to a database.
So, currently, I have Laravel 8 installed on my local windows machine, and I made a connection to the database, where I have "items" in the table that I need to save the data in
And the data may be changed from another website so I need this change in the database as well,
and need to scrape many items from another website so I need to know id or something else to distinguish one item from another
Now, the question is, what is the best way to do this? I've tried some tutorials but I haven't.
You can use a package Goutte or domcrawler, first you need to do a request of a url for that you can use GuzzleHttp or get the portion of html content and filter it and then save all this data on a table of your database.
You can read more information about those libraries.
Another library that is more customizable is domcrawler Dom_Crawler,
Goutte

I have a program with a priority queue (PQ) so huge that it does not fit to the memory. It was decided to move some data to MySQL database (DB) in following way: the new elements are put into DB instead of PQ, and when the PQ is emptied, it is updated by the entries in the DB. But this way appeared to spoil the priority ordering. Is there any solution which does not corrupt the priority ordering and combines PQ with DB?
For some reason I cannot get rid of PQ and use only DB.
Your question is rather vague on the functionality, but I think the idea is wrong.
Someone seems to have the idea of using the database as secondary storage for an in-memory application. That doesn't really make much sense. Normally, you would use a simple file for this. Although you can use a database for managing secondary/tertiary storage, a database does many other things, so it is like using a smart phone only as a clock.
If you are going to use a database, then store the entire structure in the database and develop an API for it that meets your needs.
If you want help with how to structure the data, then write another question and include:
sample data
how the priority queue will be used
any ideas you have on the data structure

I bought a 1and1.es (Spain) Starter hosting plan for a small project we are starting. It only allows one database. I never imagined that to enable phpMyAdmin Designer (the graphical tab where you set relations between tables) you'd need to create another database. Of course, when I try to, I get an "access denied" error.
So, assuming I can't use phpMyAdmin, I haven't been able to find the right term to look for an alternative MySQL manager that has some kind of graphical relation creator. I just converted the tables to InnoDB and I have Relation View, but a totally-unskilled team has to work with it so we need visuals.
PS: I just saw I can pay 1$/month and have another database, so I might consider it (it'w low price, but feels useless having a 1GB database just for a silly database. I don't get why phpMyAdmin needs another database just for that).
Thank you
Why do you imagine that the phpMyAdmin configuration storage needs a separate database?
According to http://docs.phpmyadmin.net/en/latest/setup.html#phpmyadmin-configuration-storage,
"you need to create a set of special tables. Those tables can be located in your own database,"...

I'm trying to build an application that allows users to look up a specific university and see data about it (admission rate, SAT scores, size, etc.). However, I can't find an API/database that I can use as it doesn't seem like they have a REST API that's accessible via a GET URL request.I saw so many apps having all this information, but I can't find any relevant API.
Does anyone know a way I could access this information? Thanks!
Just figured it out. Turns out you can use the IPEDS database to get this info, but it doesn't offer an API to do it. Go to IPEDS and create a group of institutions you want (ex. all 4-year, degree granting universities in the United States), select what variables you want (address, admission rate, etc.), then finally export the data in CSV. If you want the data in a less terrible format, just convert it to JSON or whatever you'd like.
An extensive collection of data in json, csv, pdf, and other formats is at:
http://www.ed.gov/developer
One funny thing: if you take one of their download links:
https://inventory.data.gov/dataset/032e19b4-5a90-41dc-83ff-6e4cd234f565/resource/38625c3d-5388-4c16-a30f-d105432553a4/download/userssharedsdfpostscndryunivsrvy2010dirinfo.csv
and you change the .csv to .json, you still get a csv file.

I have several custom reports and I would like to be able to trigger them from a CRM Dialog.
Is it possible? And if so, any examples would be great!
To actually execute the report (rather than display it) requires much more work. We have used a "trigger entity" model in the past.
In summary, your workflow or dialog you create an instance of the Report Trigger entity which has attributes holding the report to run (relative URL in SSRS) and the entity that should be passed as a parameter to the dataset. On create of such a trigger record, we have registered a plugin which invokes the SSRS web service, executes and then renders the report to PDF. Since there is no way merely display this report to the user you then have to decide whether the rendered report will be emailed to the calling user or, in our case, committed to a contextual SharePoint document library for the record that was processed in the original workflow.
Our requirements were very specific ;) Also, this won't work in CRM Online since there is no exposure of the SSRS Web Service.
In your case, given the interactive nature of a Process Dialog I think that James' approach is likely a better fit. I've added this as an intro to potentially another option. Happy to post more if it will fit your use case.
The easiest way to do this is to open the report with a url as shown here.
Then you just present the url in the dialog.
