I have been tasked with converting a .mdb created in 2001 to an .accdb. I've followed the MS instructions (File>Save & Publish>Save Database As>Access Database(*.accbd)>Save As) but literally nothing happens. No error message, no on screen changes, no accdb created. All suggestions, however basic, are welcome.
I'm using Office 2010 Pro Plus (14.0.7145.5000) 32 bit on Win 7 Sp1 32 bit if that makes any difference.
I've had similar problems in the past. In my cases it were always these three cases:
Incorrect VBA code. You can detect that with the "compile" function in the vba editor. Once there is no more compile error publishing works just fine.
Not enough disk space on your machine. I work in a enterprise environment with tiny memory space for each employee. Make sure you have enough free space. Rule of thumb: At least double the amount of your file you want to publish.
The file you want to publish is corrupted. In that case your Access database simpy doesn't work and you need to migrate the code and the forms to a new file.

I am using Access 2010 and normally I've been using Leban's code for merging PDFs together automatically (in absence of more expensive drivers/software) and it's been working fine up until recently, when on a newer 64 bit Windows 10 operating system for whatever reason the usual LoadLibrary() function does not pick up DynaPDF.dll (regardless of where I place it).
So I need to find another way to merge PDFs together through Access but so far I haven't found anything. Am I out of luck without paying money for something?
I've uninstalled several Add-Ins within Microsoft Access. And while these Add-Ins are truly uninstalled... The names of the Add-Ins still remain within the available Add-Ins drop down as shown:
I've scoured the internet looking for a way to clear this list... all I can find are articles on how to "Uninstall" add-ins... which I've done... but this did not clear the list for me.
Of note is the fact that I am running to versions of Access parallel to each other (2013 and 2010) on the same machine and am wondering if this could be the culprit as to why the list is not clearing? Does anyone know where this list is being cached so that I can manually clear it... Maybe the registry? I really do not want to have to re-install Access... but this is really getting on my nerves.
I really hate to answer my own question... but as I was asking this question the thought occurred to me that it was the Registry where I needed to clear this list... thus you see my final question as referring to the registry.
Sure enough, after locating the registry location (Which was not easy as from what I gathered depends not only your Operating System... but also whether are running a 32 or 64 bit version of Access.) As a side note I am really curious if there is a list somewhere of all the possible locations?
As earlier mentioned I am running two versions parallel Access 2013 64 bit and Access 2010 32 bit... the list I needed clearing was the 2013 version so the location was: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Access\Menu Add-Ins
I've always found that 'Unistalling' from the add-in Manager works for me. When opening the add-in manager, your add-in does not have an 'X' on the left hand side of it. Highlight your add-in, click Install, the 'X' shows up, now click Uninstall, and the 'X; goes away. Close the add-in manager, and now your add-in items have been removed.
We have a small application written in VB6 that simply reads a web page and displays some data from it in a grid. Until recently everything just worked fine but suddenly some - not all! - of our clients got this error - "run time error 438 object doesn't support this property or method".
As it is quite a large number of people it doesn't seem that they all changed something in their environment (and also because my boss is one of them and he says there was neither change nor update in his computer...) so maybe there was some change in the site? (this is the URL - "http://classic.easy-forex.com/en/Forex.Rates.aspx").
Now, I didn't write this application but I have to fix it. Alas, it works on 2 computers of mine (32 and 64 bit) so I can't even debug it.... I just saw it uses a WebBrowser control which and an HtmlDocument object.
sorry for the length, I am just trying to give all the details. I will be most grateful for any help on this mysterious , for me at least, issue.
many ,many thanks
I have an application that people use through Remote Desktop/Terminal Server. The application supports digital signatures. Well, the digital signature pad is on the client, but the program runs on the server. The signature pad also does not support being shared as a device through Remote Desktop(not listed with "Supported Plug And Play Devices" in local resources).
What is the best way of being able to send the signature to the server from the client machine? Preferably with having the least amount of setup for the users(there are a lot of clients and a fair amount of servers this must be done for)
My best idea so far is sharing the clipboard and using it to send messages from server to client(with the client application "polling" the clipboard for a special clipboard format) I feel like this may not be very fast or stable though as I don't think Remote Desktop was designed for it.
Also, we are open to [reasonable] language choices like C/C++, C#, Delphi(the application is written in this), etc. Also, the signature pad is a Topaz TS460(connects by USB).
Can anyone give me ideas on how this can be done or if the clipboard idea of mine is probably the best?
tl;dr: What is the best way of sending an image from a client to a server through remote desktop?
Update:
Well, I've done a bit of testing with plain ASCII text(I can't get files to transfer) and it seems that there is problems copying large amounts of text. I tried copying 43M of text and after a long period of waiting I just got an empty clipboard(Like it did a paste, but there was no text pasted) I was able to transfer about 2M of data though (at decent speeds) between server and client, so this may be feasible for signature images(which will be either jpeg or png compressed)
Have you looked into using Remote Desktop Virtual Channels? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa383509(VS.85).aspx
for topaz signature pad and credit card swiper you will need the serial type. It will work, already tried it. but I guess this question is too old for me to answer. Does IPAD as well as well as other tablets work on terminal and citrix setup?
I have not tried with Remote Desktop, but one thing that comes to mind is installing a good macro tool on the client. AutoHotKey ( http://www.autohotkey.com/ ) is a free tool that lets you create runable scripts that can do things like open applications and send key strokes to them.
I'm not sure how well it would work with remote desktop, but I know for certain that you can easily setup a script that would launch an application, send it "key strokes" to generate data, copy the data to the clipboard, switch to another application and then paste in the data.
When AutoHotKey is installed, you have the option of associating the file types of the scripts with the app so that end users could just double click your scripts desktop icon to run it. No command line messyness for them.
If all you need to do is transfer an amount of data (a file) from the client to the server it is fairly easy. Polling for a file seems also more logical as polling via the clipboard.
When you connect the client should enable sharing a harddisk (at least one). You can specify the options every time you connect, or you can send the client a .RDP file that is preconfigured.
If you can get the user to put the file on a fixed position, you can access the file C:\Shared \File.jpg using a path like \tsclient\c\Shared\File.jpg.
Here's an explanation (with nice screenshot) how to copy files with Remote Desktop:

I wasn't sure if your question rules already out this approach or not.
This is an odd freeze. When I switch from source view to design view for an HTML or ASPX file, the client area freezes, but I can still click on other tabs and menus.
What am I missing here? Really don't feel like reinstalling VS2008.
I had the same problem, and found one resolution.
In VS 2008, In a page that was using a master page, the either frequency while working in source view or switching to design view, IDE would freeze for 10-20 seconds.
In my master template, I had references to the Google hosted JQuery, Jquery UI, and one or two more scripts off site. These were placed directly in my master page's head section.
I downloaded the js and then by deleting any offsite references, my IDE would be smooth again in both design and source mode.
I also discovered I could put the scripts inside my ToolkitScriptManager (I'm using AjaxControlToolkit) and added the Mode="Release", and could place the http://www.google.com references for the scripts. The IDE is still working fine for me.
This is often due to the Design mode downloading external resources that are timing out. As #JonK mentioned, for him it was jQuery references. I have seen this when the ConnectionString was set to production databases that could not be accessed on my development machine, even though I wasn't debugging (running) the site only editing code, it would still try to connect and because it couldn't it would stall waiting for the timeout.
VS2008 is mostly single-threaded for UI operations like this, so if it is downloading a slow or non-existent network path it hangs like this.
VS2008 can make all kinds of network requests, so these two examples may not solve it for you. The best way I have found to diagnose the problem is to use the Microsoft tool Process Monitor, filter by the Process webdev.exe, and watch for I/O requests that are long running and/or throwing errors. In my case, I could find the place that was having a problem because there would be a 20 second gap in between the hundreds of I/O entries in Process Monitor. Then, just back-tracked from when that gap began and I eventually found the request that was causing the problem.
This may not be possible for you, but if you can, an upgrade to VS2010 would help; it does a much better job of running process on multiple threads in more places so you don't have to worry about this as much.
Have you tried restarting your computer and then reopening your project?
