Could not initialize wmi interface - mysql

I made a program in vb.net using visual studio 2013 and while creating a user for database to use inside the program I run into this problem. I created a user with permissions that are required for me from this video: CLICK ME
and I am getting this error: could not initialize wmi interface workbench.wmiopensession(); could not connect to target machine.
I don't know where to post about this problem but can someone tell me how to fix it? I need this fixed this month.
I am a beginner with mysql and mine mysql is newer version than that video.
Bonus information:
I can't rly give you anything everything i done was from that video and mysql is fresh installed i do not use firewall and i do have port forward on mysql. If you know what you need to know tell me.
Problem: i need to have wmi enabled. How do i enable it? i am using windows 8.1 pro SOLVED but still not fixed

WMI is available since Windows XP already, IIRC. And it is available on normal Windows machines, not only servers. You only need to enable it on the target machine. And make sure you use a wmi user that is member of the local admin group otherwise configuration becomes a nightmare with all the required rights. I don't say it's impossible to make another user be able to use the wmi features needed in MySQL Workbench, but it's a lot simpler to configure with a local admin.

MySQL Server installation issue

I am trying to install the Oracle MySQL Server and Workbench on a server computer running Windows 2008. For some reason I just can't install it - can someone give there opinion on the problem - I am uploading pictures of the installation process.
I downloaded the 32 15.8M version
Agreed
Here is where the first problem appears. The only two options I can actually choose are Default and Custom . i chose Custom because the only thing I can install is MySQL for Excel..
Custom
...
...
And at the end there is nothing installed
After choosing the setup type and product features, Do you get a chance to see the attached screen? with all components downloaded? installation image
If you could see that and click on execute the product must be installed.
-Don't forget to check if
*your account has Admin privileges to install.
*The machine in which you are trying to install has access to internet via installers
-If you still face the problem i would suggest you to download the file of size 230MB and try installation with that.

Windows App with mySQL Backend

I am trying to design a database application for my small business. I've created a number of form driven MS Access databases for use before but would like to create a permanent solution in something more advanced & common.
I was thinking of using mySQL for the database and would then program a C# or VB application to be used in Windows. I do not want or need a web based version at this time but the migration to VB.net in the far future may be something I'll look into.
I know I can use a MS Access backend for my windows application without having to install MS Office on any or all the computers the program will be run for.
But here is my question. Is it necessary to install mySQL Server on the PC hosting the database, on all the PCs accessing the database or can I just use the database file as the backend and Visual Studio will have all the necessary tools I need to access it?
If I have to install the server I may just stick with the MS Access database as the needs for an excessive amount of database storage won't ever be an issue.
You'd need to install MySQL server on the Server hosting the database. The clients would then connect via the network. You will however need a driver to access the MySQL-Server with VB.NET on the client machines. A simple DLL-File might be enough, though.
If you are looking for a file-based database solution have a look at SQLite. But you will have to watch out for concurrency issues here.

Connect to MySQL from VBA without a driver

I installed xampp on my computer and I want another computer to access the mysql db in vba. But, they don't have admin right on their computer and cant get it, and they dont have mysql ado driver installed.
Is there a way to do it without this driver - can I use a portable driver or a windows standard lib?
At the moment all I can do is create a php page and use post data with a sql query, getting the result as xml or whatever, which is really not what I want.
Without the correct ODBC driver the app won't be connecting to the database directly. You'll have to do through some sort of middle tier that does have the driver installed.
Your solution here is to have the user call the help desk and have them install the MySQL drivers on his PC. If this is business critical it shouldn't be hard to get it approved. If not you'll need to redesign the app to fit within the IT policies.

XAMPP on Flashdrive cannot start Apache, MySQL on Windows 7

XAMPP is unable to start Apache or MySQL on a windows 7 system when run from a flashdrive.
The control panel indicates that the server is starting, but it never actually comes online. Additionally, the control panel process refuses to end; Task Manager end tasking is required to make it stop.
Is there a specialized setting either in XAMPP or Windows that needs to be made to achieve operation? Is there a version incompatibility? Anyone know a way to get this running?
Try XAMPP Lite -- it has all of the main features of XAMPP, and runs flawlessly from a flash drive.
Be sure to select "no drive letters" during the setup process to maintain portability.

Installing Ms-Access 2003 standalone?

Anyone knows if it is possible to install Access 2003 standalone without the rest of the Office 2003? I seem not to locate my installation disks to test this out, but thought someone might have an answer...
I believe so, when you install Office and choose custom install, you can deselect everything except Access.
You can do a custom install and then deselect everything.
You will basically get all the MS Office run-time and shared components with only the Access application available to run.
Note: I don't use the access run-time any more, but do use it regularly for the Excel and/or Word applications.
