I'm using bootstrap list-inline class to style my breadcrumbs but I don't like the spacing between the elements. How do I reduce the spacing between John, Jane and David ?
Here's how it currently looks
<ul class="list-inline">
<li>
<div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="http://www.google.com" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop="title">John</span>
</a> >
</div>
</li>
<li>
<div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="www.yahoo.com" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop="title">Jane</span>
</a> >
</div>
</li>
<li>
<div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="www.msn.com" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop="title">David</span>
</a>
</div>
</ul>
</li>
You can override the base css and add a negative margin to the li elements like so:
.list-inline>li {
margin-right: -10px;
}
Run the below code snippet to see what this produces.
.list-inline>li {
margin-right: -10px;
}
<link href="http://netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.0.0/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<script src="http://netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.0.0/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<ul class="list-inline">
<li>
<div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="http://www.google.com" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop="title">John</span>
</a> >
</div>
</li>
<li>
<div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="www.yahoo.com" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop="title">Jane</span>
</a> >
</div>
</li>
<li>
<div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="www.msn.com" itemprop="url">
<span itemprop="title">David</span>
</a>
</div>
</li>
</ul>
One of the options is to remove the padding from elements with css.
.no-left-gutter{padding-left:0;}
And add this class to li or a elements.
<li class="no-left-gutter">
<div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Breadcrumb">
<a href="http://www.google.com" itemprop="url" class=no-left-gutter>
<span itemprop="title">John</span>
</a>
</div>
</li>
can be fixed by funky code formatting...
<ul class="list-inline">
<li>
List Item One</li><li>
List Item Two</li><li>
List Item Three</li>
</ul>
can be fixed by adding html comments...
<ul class="list-inline">
<li>List Item One</li><!--
--><li>List Item Two</li><!--
--><li>List Item Three</li>
</ul>

How can I display the list that in each line I will have one li and not 2 li in one row?
<div class="recent_questions promoted_questions pblock">
<ul class="vertical_menu main_questions">
<li>
<span class="header">
corona<img src="photos/Covid.gif"></span>
<span class="questions"><span class="big_image">
<img class="photo_sub" src="photos/covid.jpg"/></span></span>
</li>
<li></li>
<li></li>
</ul>
</div>
You can simply wrap your images into individual <li> elements, and they will appear below each other:
<div class="recent_questions promoted_questions pblock">
<ul class="vertical_menu main_questions">
<li>
<span class="header">
<a href="covid.php">
corona
<img src="photos/Covid.gif">
</a>
</span>
</li>
<li>
<span class="questions">
<span class="big_image">
<img class="photo_sub" src="photos/covid.jpg" />
</span>
</span>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
I am trying to avoid fixed height of bootstrap columns. I do have a Custom Mega Menu in my project where we show all our Nav bar entries. This one is a dynamically created code so it will be difficult to change the logic of the Mega menu creation so I am looking for some Css solution to fix this issue.
My code in high level look like.
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xl-3">... contents </div>
<div class="col-xl-3">... contents </div>
<div class="col-xl-3">... contents </div>
<div class="col-xl-3">... contents </div>
<div class="col-xl-3">... contents </div>
<div class="col-xl-3">... contents </div>
</div>
Since this one is a dynamic item we can expect n number of col-xl-3
The issue is I am getting some extra space in between columns. ( taking the max size item's size in each row)
As you can see in the image attached, The yellow color marked area I am trying to avoid.
I have tried to use d-block with float-left to the child elements.
Then I am getting display something like below.
Here also I am getting extra space in some places. Is there any way to get out of this issues?
What I am looking for is to move sections 5 to below 1 st section and 6 one to below 2 nd section etc .And remove the extra space between top and bottom columns
(the yellow highlighted space in the image)
I am adding a testing sample below here.

maybe this helps you CSS: remove empty Space between boxes
In your case
.wrapper {
column-count: 3;
column-gap: 1.25rem;
}
.part {
break-inside: avoid-column;
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
width: 100%;
-webkit-box-orient: vertical;
-webkit-box-direction: normal;
flex-direction: column;
}
.row will be .wrapper and .col-xl-3 is .part, I recommend you not to use bootstrap classes for this
The Code:
<ul class="site-nav list--inline " id="SiteNav">
<li class="site-nav--active">
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link>
<span class="site-nav__label">HOME</span>
</a>
</li>
**<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">ORDER NOW</span>
</a>
</li>**
<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">TRACK ORDER</span>
</a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">HELP CENTER</span>
</a>
</li>
</ul>
I want to target the SECOND span tag in the list with class: site-nav__label using pure CSS.(nth-child, second-of-type etc.)
I cannot add ids or classes to this span tag.
Help will be greatly appreciated.
For select the second li try with
#SiteNav li:nth-of-type(2)
and then for select the span of second li add span after:
#SiteNav li:nth-of-type(2) span
Because you want inside ul tag, I used ul.site-nav for ul tag with class site-nav
ul.site-nav li:nth-of-type(2) a > span {
border: 3px solid red;
}
<ul class="site-nav list--inline " id="SiteNav">
<li class="site-nav--active">
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link>
<span class="site-nav__label">HOME</span>
</a>
</li>
**<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">ORDER NOW</span>
</a>
</li>**
<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">TRACK ORDER</span>
</a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">HELP CENTER</span>
</a>
</li>
</ul>
To Target the span use a combination of nth-of-type and child combinators
#SiteNav > li:nth-of-type(2) > a > span {
font-weight:bold;
color:red;
}
/*Or Target the span class*/
#SiteNav > li:nth-of-type(2) .site-nav__label {
font-style:italic;
}
<ul class="site-nav list--inline " id="SiteNav">
<li class="site-nav--active">
<!-- Fixed Missing closing " -->
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">HOME</span>
</a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">ORDER NOW</span>
</a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">TRACK ORDER</span>
</a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="/" class="site-nav__link">
<span class="site-nav__label">HELP CENTER</span>

For a good article on nth-child (and nth-of-type) see https://css-tricks.com/useful-nth-child-recipies/
i'm having trouble centering my branding logo vertically in the center. As of right now my rendered html looks like this:
<a class='navbar-brand' href='#'>
<img alt="brand" height="200%" src="/assets/logo.png" />
If I don't set the height to a size, it will be the full size of the png. But my branding isn't vertically center with the rest of my navbar.
My css for the navbar-brand looks like this:
.navbar-default .navbar-brand {
color: #777;
}
.navbar-default .navbar-brand:hover,
.navbar-default .navbar-brand:focus {
color: #ffffff;
background-color: transparent;
}
What do I need in my css to make this center with the navbar?
This is the full render of the navbar, pulled right from bootstrap docs.

You can try use absolute positioning:
.navbar-brand {
position: absolute;
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
left: 50%;
margin-left: // half the width of your img
}
How Can I display 3 unordered lists horizontally next to each other?
The 3 ul are wrapped in 1 div called 'tax'.
I've tried the following, but it's not showing correctly.
I know I can solve this by wrapping each ul with a div, but I don't want to use extra markup when it's not necessarily.
Example:

Create a wrapper for each item and assign each item a class called "pull-left". And then, add style below:
<div class="pull-left">
<h2>Title</h2>
<ul>
<li>...</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="pull-left">
<h2>Title</h2>
<ul>
<li>...</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="pull-left">
<h2>Title</h2>
<ul>
<li>...</li>
</ul>
</div>
Here is your css code for pull-left class:
.pull-left { float: left; }
You're trying to align two elements horizontally, both the h2 and the ul that goes with it, that's why it's not working 'as expected'. The only way to solve this, to make both those elements act as one, is to add an extra markup element around both of them, and apply regular horizontal layout rules to that element. I'd recommend a section for this, like:
<section id="archives">
<h2>Section title</h2>
<ul><!-- bunch of list items --></ul>
</section>
This isn't "unnecessary extra markup", this is required markup if you want 2 elements to layout as 1.
HERE IS A WORKING LIVE DEMO: CLick HERE
i have a add a extra <div> for all <ul> and put it to float:left:
basically its all
here create one wrapper div for including with header tag and ul. For example here I create wrapper div with name of "test".
<div id="tax">
<div class="test">
<h2>
Recent News </h2>
<ul id="recent-news">
<li>
<a href='#'>
new release </a>
› </li>
<li>
<a href='#'>
testing titel </a>
› </li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="test">
<h2>
Categories </h2>
<ul id="categories">
<li>
<a href="#">
Audio </a>
› </li>
<li>
<a href="#">
Uncategorized </a>
› </li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="test">
<h2>
Archives </h2>
<ul id="archives">
<li>
<a href=''>
August 2013 </a>
</li>
<li>
<a href='#'>
July 2013 </a>
</li>
<li>
<a href='#'>
May 2013 </a>
</li>
<li>
<a href='#'>
December 2012 </a>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
Css :
<style type="text/css">
#tax {
margin-top:100px;
}
#categories,#archives,#recent-news {
display:inline-block;
float:left;
}
.test{width:33%;
float:left;}
</style>
see demo
For horizontal you basically have to use div to wrap ul.
http://jsfiddle.net/5d5eM/
div {
width: 50px;
border: 1px solid #000;
float: left;
}
br { clear: left; }
