We are designing a new website, and the designer has created the nav bar as follows, you can see the curve (this is what I'm trying to crack!)
Below is how my current header is
This is my current HTML, I also had to create a new CSS class for the brand so it would appear in the middle of the screen
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top" role="navigation">
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar-collapse-1">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<a class="navbar-brand" href='#Url.Action("Index", "Home")'>LOGO HERE</a>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li>PRODUCTS</li>
<li>FLAVOUR LAB</li>
</ul>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>OUR STORY</li>
<li>VISIT US ON LIFE INVADER</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
And the css is as follows
.navbar-brand {
position: absolute;
width: 100%;
left: 0;
top: 0;
text-align: center;
margin: auto;
}
When I create a test image and try to apply the style i.e back ground image I get the following output, as you can see the logo with the curve half shows and appears to the left hand side of the screen.
The updated CSS
.navbar-brand {
position: absolute;
width: 100%;
left: 0;
top: 0;
text-align: center;
margin: auto;
background-image: url('/Content/Images/TempLogoExample.png');
background-repeat: no-repeat;
z-index: 9999;
}
I've attached a test Image for anyone that feels they want to have a go at it, any solution/advice would be highly appreciated.
It appears on the left corner because you have set Left:0. try changing that using percentage mark. Eg:- left: 45%;will work in your case. if not try changing the percentage value.
I Recommend to go with a different markup approach to achieve this. Why can't you use columns grid in the main section and then bring your designs internally. Below markup will help you to acheive this.
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar-collapse-1">
<div class="col-xs-4">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li>PRODUCTS</li>
<li>FLAVOUR LAB</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-4">
<a class="navbar-brand" href='#Url.Action("Index", "Home")'>LOGO HERE</a>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-4">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>OUR STORY</li>
<li>VISIT US ON LIFE INVADER</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>

was hoping for a little help. My Bootstrap navigation is running off the right hand side of the screen? There was a white space on both the right and left sides which I fixed, but now the 'help' link is running off. Any suggestions?
index.html

cssgeneric.css
#header{
background:url('banner5.jpg') no-repeat top center;
background-size: 95%;
width: 100%;
height: 200px;
margin-top: 50px;
}
#navbar{
background-color: #ccb69b;
margin-left:-20px;
margin-right:-15px;
}`
I can see in the CSS a rule, and I think is possible that is the problem.
#media (min-width: 768px)
navbar.less:380
.navbar-right {
float: right!important;
margin-right: -15px;
}
The margin-right: -15px; is the possible problem. This rule is in navbar.less in bootstrap folder.
In your CSSGeneric.css I change and add new rules.
/*line 76*/
#navbar{
background-color: #ccb69b;
margin-left:-20px;
margin-right:-15px;
}
ul.nav.navbar-nav.navbar-right {
margin-right: 0px;
}
I add the ul.nav.navbar-nav.navbar-right to fix the problem with navbar.less.
I hope that help.
have a good day.
Currently i have the following Header(Template from Bootstrap for Responsive Purposes):-
But it's not very nice to have a such big navigation pane, so now i want to place the Profile Picture in the middle of the Border like this(The circle should be the profile picture):-
The question is, how can I achieve this without using a absolute position which would ruin my responsive design? (It should be a proportion of 50/50)
Edit: The HTML Code for the Profile Picture is:-
<div id="nav_profile">
<div class="profile_picture">
<img src="assets/img/profilepicture.png" alt="Profile Picture">
<figcaption><i class="ion-android-add"></i></figcaption>
<a id="profile_hover_txt" href="profile.php">View Profile</a>
</div>
</div>
The CSS Part is just for the transitions and the styling for the Picture.
Try The Following Code....
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar-collapse-1">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand brand" href="#">Custom Logo</a>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li>Home</li>
<li>About</li>
<li>Services</li>
<li>Works</li>
<li>News</li>
<li>Contact</li>
</ul>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li> <img width="50px" height="50px" class="img-circle" src="http://i.imgur.com/bQ6Rroe.jpg" alt=""></li>
</ul>
</div>
<!-- /.navbar-collapse -->
</div>
</nav>
You can simply set the height of the picture to 200%. The float: right; and width: 100px; are just in my code so it works without an image but the principal works without them.
#menu {
width: 100%;
height: 50px;
background: #000000;
}
#pic {
float: right;
width: 100px;
height: 200%;
background: yellow;
}
<div id="menu">
<div id="pic"></div>
</div>
Can someone have a look to this fiddle http://jsfiddle.net/pkcwtone/1/ and tell me why I am not able to put the image all right inside the navigation?
This is html:
<nav id="mainNavigation" class="navbar navbar-default" role="navigation">
<div class="container-fluid">
<!-- Responsive navigation -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar-collapse-2"> <span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="">
<img src="http://s28.postimg.org/gc8ajkjq5/advance_logo.png" alt=""/>
</a>
</div>
<div class="clearfix"></div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar-collapse-2">
<!-- top navigation-->
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li>
Home
</li>
<li>
Accident<br>Management
</li>
<li>
Approved<br>Manufacturers
</li>
<li>
Our<br>Services
</li>
<li>
About<br>Advance
</li>
<li>
Contact<br>Us
</li>
</ul>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
This is css:
#mainNavigation.navbar-default{
/*background: #f9540a;*/
background:black;
width: 100%;
text-align: center;
font-family:'Droid Sans', sans-serif;
font-weight:700;
font-size:1.2em;
}
#mainNavigation.navbar-header {
float: left;
padding: 15px;
text-align: center;
width: 100%;
}
#mainNavigation .container-fluid{
height:auto;
overflow:auto;
}
.navbar-brand img{
float:left;
}
I've been playing with overflow... with clearfix..... with the height.... but it looks bad :S The text overlays the logo, which it shouldn't (I know I could use padding, but I've though it must be a way more natural to keep in mind the space that the logo occupies), and then, the logo look cut! :S
Anyone can see what am I doing wrong?
Cheers :)
Looks like the issue is here:
#mainNavigation.navbar-header {
what the above css is looking for is a div with id mainNavigation and class nav-header
however you add a space between them, it looks for the class within the mainNavigation:
#mainNavigation .navbar-header {
you will be able to resize the navbar to fit the logo, see the updated jsfiddle:
http://jsfiddle.net/pkcwtone/4/
hey guys i am basically new to css and trying to build a bootstrap navbar ,the issue is that i had to center certain contents of the navbar I.E , center the menu items .
basically after going through the source of the bootstrap navbar i figured out that the reason all elements in the navbar appear in one line rather then moving on to the next line is because the elements in the navbar are floated either right or left , the movement you remove the floats the alignment is broken ,
so what i tried to do is : - HTML code(TYPICAL bootstrap markup) :
<nav role="navigation" class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed">
<button type="button" data-target="#navbarCollapse" data-toggle="collapse" class="navbar-toggle">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<!-- Brand -->
</div>
<!-- Collection of nav links and other content for toggling -->
<div id="navbarCollapse" class="collapse navbar-collapse">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li class="active">Home</li>
<li>Profile</li>
<li>Messages</li>
</ul>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li><img src="http://images.dailyo.in/images/facebook_two.png" alt=""></li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
And the CSS(customized css) :
.navbar-default .navbar-collapse ul.navbar-nav{
text-align: center;
float: none;
width: 300px;
}
.navbar-default .navbar-collapse ul.navbar-nav li {
float: none;
display: inline-block;
}
.brand-holder {
height: 200px;
background: #000;
}
.navbar-fixed {
position: fixed;
width: 100%;
}
The thing to notice is see how i have removed the floats in ul.navbar-nav and ul.navbar-nav li
Fiddle here . , now see how the contents of
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li><img src="http://images.dailyo.in/images/facebook_two.png" alt=""></li>
</ul>
is floated to the next line . is there anyway that i can have the contents back inline with the menu items ?
P.S. :: i would really like to avoid using absolute positioning .
Thank you.
Alex-z.
If my understanding of your question is correct, probably by changing the CSS as below
.navbar-default .navbar-collapse ul.navbar-nav{
text-align: center;
float: none;
text-align:left;
and instead of keeping an another UL for the FB Logo keep the whole Li as in the first Ul itself and aligning to right, should help
so the final html will be
<nav role="navigation" class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed">
<button type="button" data-target="#navbarCollapse" data-toggle="collapse" class="navbar-toggle">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<!-- Brand --> <!-- </div>-->
<!-- Collection of nav links and other content for toggling -->
<div id="navbarCollapse" class="collapse navbar-collapse">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li class="active">Home</li>
<li>Profile</li>
<li>Messages</li>
<li style="float:right"><img src="http://images.dailyo.in/images/facebook_two.png" alt=""></li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
You can have a check on the result fiddle
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Philemon
Using bootstrap v3.0
Id like to dynamically center the navigation bar. i.e. A fix that doesnt hardcode a width.
How is this achieved? Below is a sample of the standard navigation code with excess tags removed.
<!-- NAVBAR
================================================== -->
<div class="navbar-wrapper">
<div class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-static-top">
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse">
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">All Saints Church, Ripley.</a>
</div>
<div class="navbar-collapse collapse" >
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li class="active">Home</li>
<li>About</li>
<li>Contact</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<!-- ./NAVBAR -->
The documentation states to float the navbar right insert .navbar-right #<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right"> ... shown here http://getbootstrap.com/components/#navbar-component-alignment.
Having followed the methodology of this question: twitter bootstrap -- center brand in nav bar I cannot centralize the navigation using margin-left: auto; and margin-right: auto;
Any help is greatly appreciated.
For the record, I don't quite like this solution =) But a brute force way may be to add the following CSS:
.nav.navbar-nav {
float: none;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
and the following jQuery to force the width down from the auto that is being inherited from .container:
var width = 0, $navbarLinks = $(".nav.navbar-nav");
$navbarLinks.children().each( function(idx) {
width += $(this).outerWidth();
});
$navbarLinks.width(width);
See the jsFiddle for testing.
I have found it easiest to use the nav-justified class for this purpose..
<nav class="navbar navbar-default" role="navigation">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse">
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<div class="navbar-collapse collapse">
<ul class="nav nav-justified">
<li class="active">Home</li>
<li>Projects</li>
<li>Services</li>
<li>Downloads</li>
<li>About</li>
<li>Contact</li>
</ul>
</div>
</nav>
Demo
You can also constrain the width using an extra class. See the 2nd navbar in the demo.
