I have a bootstrap site with a TBS 'page-header', above which I have two images of different height, the first image is given no particular instruction, but the second image is told to float right, such that, regardless of the viewport, the first image will always be on the left and the second image will always touch the right.
The problem here is that I want to align both images to the line provided by the 'page-header' so that the bottom of each image is flush with the other and equidistant from the 'page-header' Hr, but what I'm getting is that the tops are flush with each other - ie, they're aligning to the top. I've used pull-right, vertical-align:bottom on different divs, etc. I haven't changed the Bootstrap.
I can't get it!!!
<div class="row clearfix page-header">
<div class="col-md-12 column">
<div>
<a href="default.aspx">
<img src="img/Logo.jpg" /></a>
<img style="float: right" src="img/cc1.jpg" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
vertical-align:bottom is a bit rubbish.
What I could do is set the empty <div> to position:relative, then on the image you want at the bottom to position:absolute; bottom:0.

I have try to put image in the right side and text in the left side,
but for some reason its the opposite and I don't know why,
By the way how can I shrink it to fit the "Can you see the simplicity behind the logo?" size.
Link to website
The column you want on the left should come first. So in this case the text.
Example
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
[text]
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
[image]
</div>
</div>
You have the img-responsive class on the logo so it will scale depending on the viewport size. You also have a inline style with "height: 200px". Lowering this number would decrease the size of the logo.
The styles coming from bootstrap are setting your layout. For instance your image <img src="Isaac.png" alt="" id="img_q" class="col-xs-6 text-right"> has a float:left coming from bootstrap. You can override bootstrap styles by putting your styles inline like this <img src="Isaac.png" alt="" id="img_q" class="col-xs-6 text-right" style="float: right;"> or by placing !important; after the styles you want to override other styles. Use the developer tool on the browser to analyze the css and you'll see what is affecting your page and what is not.
I want an image to stay exactly on the left side of the screen(fix it to the left side). I want the image to "start" from the screen's side. I managed to do this with
position:fixed; left: -15px;
and it works from the viewpoint of the image, it starts at the screen's left side exactly on every screen I tested.
BUT it ruins other things, namely the text on the same row will be on top of the picture, AND if I decrease the windows/screen size it will become more of a mess with the text.
What's a better solution?
My code:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-3" id="swoosh">
<img class="img-responsive" src="img/img1.png">
</div>
<div class="col-md-6">
<h1>Title of the website</h1>
<p class="lead">Use this document as a way to quickly start any new project.<br> All you get is this text and a mostly barebones HTML document.</p>
</div>
<div class="col-md-3">
<img class="img-responsive" src="img/logo.png">
</div>
</div>
I want the first picture, so img1.png to be on the left, the title should be in the middle, and the logo.png on the right. The second image, the logo.png doesn't need to be fixed to the right, just img1 to the left.
I tried to provide the all the info you need, but I'm new here so please tell me if there's anything more you need!
Thank you in advance!
EDIT: Added fiddles.
As you can see, the black image does not start at the screen's left side exactly here:

The next fiddle shows you how the black image should be positioned, but it ruins the site:
http://www.bootply.com/sFeKODGOSq
Actually, your html almost works. As you found out, using a fixed position within Bootstrap's grid system doesn't work very well.
Rather than trying to fix the <div> to the left edge, you should try fixing the image to the left edge. You don't need to use absolute positioning to do it. You can use a negative margin-left value to shift the image to the left. See updated code below
#swoosh {
margin-left: -15px;
}
<div class='container-fluid'>
<div class="row outerDiv">
<div class="col-xs-3 col-md-2 imageDiv" >
<img class="img-responsive" id="swoosh" ...
The actual value of the margin-left value is a little fuzzy. The value of -15px is to offset the padding-left value in the Bootstrap's col-xxxx classes. You will need to adjust the the value to meet your needs.
I've created a working version at JSBin
Okay, you have the row element within a container - so unless you use negative margins you won't be able to move the element the whole way across. You could place that row within a container-fluid element which will remove the restrictions on the location but it would stretch the element the whole width of the screen
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar navbar-default">
<p>Navbar Code Here</p>
</div>
</div><!-- /.container -->
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-3" id="swoosh">
<img class="img-responsive" src="http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/uncyclopedia/images/7/71/Black.png">
</div>
<div class="col-md-6">
<h1>Title of the website</h1>
<p class="lead">Use this document as a way to quickly start any new project.<br> All you get is this text and a mostly barebones HTML document.</p>
</div>
<div class="col-md-3">
<img class="img-responsive" src="http://globe-views.com/dcim/dreams/red/red-01.jpg">
</div>
</div>
</div><!-- /.container-fluid -->
You can then remove the padding on that left image by applying
#swoosh {padding-left: 0;}
to your css.
If you need to change the alignment of the columns in responsive views, you should start taking a look at http://getbootstrap.com/css/#grid-example-mixed-complete to change the layout at the viewport reduces - perhaps using col-xs-6 etc to achieve the alignment you are after
I received HTML & CSS layout that should be working fine. However, I'm experiencing some strange problems for which I'm not sure why do they occur.
At the bottom of the following this website there is slider that should display couple of photos with text and by clicking on arrows it should slide them. The problem is I can't position neither arrows, nor wrapper containing images.
As you can see arrows(CSS classes: .strelica-lijevo and .strelica-desno are currently behind the image wrapper (CSS class: .slike-wrapper) when they should be left (.strelica-lijevo) or right (.strelica-desno).
Code can be seen directly on the website. Any help would be appreciated.
There are some issues with the HTML and CSS - you should either try to contact whoever delivered this slider to get support for implementing it or you could try by yourself as follows (just checked the markup and CSS and maybe this helps):
Your current HTML:
<div class="w-clearfix main-content karta">
<div class="slike-wrapper">
<a class="w-inline-block featured-male-slike karta" href="/zagreb/category/to-see/2/zagreb-is-the-capital-and-the-largest-city-of-croatia/5">
<img class="featured-male-slike" src='/Content/610ddd4a-b9a7-45f8-ac56-66eec5968329.jpg' />
<div class="potpis-mala-slika-featured">
<div class="potpis-ispod-slike">Zagreb is the capital and the largest city of Croatia</div>
</div>
</a>
<a class="w-inline-block featured-male-slike karta" href="/zagreb/category/to-see/2/museum-of-broken-relationships/8">
<img class="featured-male-slike" src='/Content/3a6ee262-676f-4599-9f97-6b9c48136449.jpg' />
<div class="potpis-mala-slika-featured">
<div class="potpis-ispod-slike">Museum of Broken Relationships</div>
</div>
</a>
</div>
<div class="strelica-lijevo"> <img src='/Content/strelica-lijevo.svg' /> </div>
<div class="strelica-desno"> <img src='/Content/strelica-desno.svg' /> </div>
</div>
could be changed into:
<div class="w-clearfix main-content karta">
<div class="strelica-lijevo"> <img src='/Content/strelica-lijevo.svg' /> </div>
<div class="slike-wrapper">
<a class="w-inline-block featured-male-slike karta" href="/zagreb/category/to-see/2/zagreb-is-the-capital-and-the-largest-city-of-croatia/5">
<img class="featured-male-slike" src='/Content/610ddd4a-b9a7-45f8-ac56-66eec5968329.jpg' />
<div class="potpis-mala-slika-featured">
<div class="potpis-ispod-slike">Zagreb is the capital and the largest city of Croatia</div>
</div>
</a>
<a class="w-inline-block featured-male-slike karta" href="/zagreb/category/to-see/2/museum-of-broken-relationships/8">
<img class="featured-male-slike" src='/Content/3a6ee262-676f-4599-9f97-6b9c48136449.jpg' />
<div class="potpis-mala-slika-featured">
<div class="potpis-ispod-slike">Museum of Broken Relationships</div>
</div>
</a>
</div>
<div class="strelica-desno"> <img src='/Content/strelica-desno.svg' /> </div>
</div>
This would just change the order of the elements - 1st the left arrow, than the gallery, than the right arrow - so they're displayed next to each other. Guess this could be changed in another way, but this is the easiest approach withouth having to change too much in the CSS.
In the CSS
.featured-male-slike.karta
{
clear: right;
display: inline;
float: left;
margin-top: 30px;
overflow: hidden;
/* position: absolute; */ /* <--comment position abolute out */
}
comment "position: absolute;" out - you could also remove it, but it's better to keep it just so you can check with whomever created this slider for you, maybe there's some other way to fix the slider as you mentioned it should be working as it is. Because of this position:absolute the gallery would still be displayed above the left arrow, removing it has the purpose to keep the CSS-property float:left for all three elements - left arrow, gallery, right arrow, so they will be displayed next to each other.
Next is up to you - the images are displayed not positioned correctly because they have a different height, and the css for the img is height: auto, meaning that the height for each img depends on the actual calculated height (as both images are scaled down from bigger original images). You could either try to display images with the same size, or you can add css to set a fixed height for both images, e.g.
.slike-wrapper img
{
height:140px;
}
as the left image has a calculated height of 158px and the right image has 140px. As I only tested this directly in the browser's web developer tools, I can't guarantee that this approach would work for you, but you can give it a try.
This seems so simple but I seem to be failing at it for some reason. So I have 3 images and each image has a link above it. I want them to appear inline and I can't use a table so I tried divs but they appear one after the other instead of inline. note: my page width is 1000px
<!-- First Div with link and image-->
<div style="float:left;width:33%">
BarTop Epoxy
<img style="margin: 15px;"src="image1" width="300" height="315">
</div>
<!-- Second Div with link and image-->
<div style="float:left;width:33%">
Countertop
<img style="margin: 15px;" src="image2" width="300" height="315">
</div>
<!--third Div with link and image-->
<div style="float:left;width:33%">
Flooring
<img style="margin: 15px;" src="image3" width="300" height="315">
</div>
There are two things you need to check:
That the DIVs are not clearing--they should have clear:none declared or inherited.
That there is enough space in your container for all of these items. Your floats contain elements 300 pixels wide with an extra 30 pixels of margin. Is your container 990px wide? Or even 660px wide? Floats will bump down to underneath the previous float if there is not enough room for them.
By default divs have a display: block; property, which means they will not appear on the same line.
You can fix this by making the display float, like you've done, but you should also add the styling clear: none; to be sure the floated elements are allowed to be side by side.
Alternatively, you could use display: inline-block;, which may work better for what you are trying to do, and here's a jsfiddle with this option.
This is the div for my product, you can see the demo like this:
<div class="productItem">
<div>
<!--image -->
</div>
<div>
<!--text -->
</div>
</div>
http://www.4freeimagehost.com/show.php?i=4aba7e2005a0.jpg
Each product has a product image and product text. The image is on the top, and the text is under each image. But you can see that, image can have different size, so I don't want the text always in the bottom instead of just below the image. How can I layout the text must in the bottom, except from assigning the absolute position.
It might be worth considering making your images a standard size. Perhaps a large and a smaller size? You could always have an option to show a larger image when someone clicks on the smaller one?
You could also simplify your HTML using something like this:
<div class="productItem">
<img class="large" />
<p>Text</p>
</div>
This would let you change the CSS depending upon the image (by giving it a class), and reduce unnecessary div's.
Perhaps force the image to display above the text using the block attribute?
img {display:block;}
I must be missing something because this seems fairly simple.
<style type="text/css">
.productItem {
text-align: center;
}
<div class="productItem">
<img src="whatever"><br style="clear: both;" />
Text
</div>
Perhaps there's more that I'm not understanding.
From your screenshot, it looks like your text is always below the image, but in the right half of your screenshot, when a small image is in the same row as a larger image, the text isn't lining up (the product descriptions aren't at the bottom of the cell). Is that what you're asking about? How to get the text all aligned to the bottom of the row when the image size varies?
You could set the table row that's containing all the products to be <tr valign="bottom">, which will push everything to the bottom, stacking the images on top of the text. This would mean that the small images would all have their bottoms aligned with each other, not their tops. If you want the images to stay up, but the text to go down, instead style the image DIV like this: <div style="height:200px; width:200px; overflow:hidden; text-align:center;">. This will create a larger placeholder for smaller images such that the text beneath them all lines up, and if an image is too big, it will get cropped rather than stretch out and cause the text to get all out of line.
i assume you have a container for productItem
so it should be something like that:
<div class="productList">
<div class="productItem">
<div>
<!--image -->
</div>
<div class="productText">
<!--text -->
</div>
</div>
<div class="productItem">
<div>
<!--image -->
</div>
<div class="productText">
<!--text -->
</div>
</div>
</div>
i don't know why you dont want to use absolute positioning but that's only solution in this case (without giving fixed height to image or divs).
This setting would not hurt anything and will work on all common modern browsers including ie6.
All you need to do is give a different classname for product text or use different tag for addressing it.
css:
.productsList {background:#f00; overflow:hidden;height:1%;position:relative;}
.productItem {float:left;background:#ff0;}
.productText {bottom:0;position:absolute;text-align}
try this. should work perfectly
other solution is written above by MidnightLightining. using fixed height for image container.
