I have a Windows Phone 8/8.1 App in the Windows Phone App Store. Unfortunately, I have lost the source due to system crash. Now, I want to decompile the XAP file. For decompilation I have downloaded JustDecompile from Telerik. But it fails to decompile the XAP file that I get from the store. I have an idea that the file is encrypted.
Is there a way to get the original file that I created using Visual Studio, as it is still available somewhere on the dev center (It shows the file name as published app)?
Is there any other workaround to get the source back from XAP?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated. I really need my app project back.
Install the app on your SD card. Then plug in the SD card into PC, change view property to show system files. Now, you can get into apps installation folder and get your dll's now.
Windows phone store xap files are encrypted. So you will not be able retrieve the files using store installed xap file. You might be able to contact the Dev center support team to see if they can provide the original xap file. I'm not sure if it is possible but you can give a try.

First time developing Windows Phone 8.1 Universal App.
I figured how to create the .appx file after some googling. But now I need to deploy it to multiple customer devices, didn't figure that yet. For the moment I'm trying to deploy it to my development device, but it keeps throwing this error (see attached image).
I only have the myApp_ARM.appx file on my AppPackages folder. I can't find or browse to %FOLDERID_SharedData%. I have no idea where to find this ARM_Optimized.appx file.
First, reboot your phone, make sure there is no update pending. It should let you deploy into your phone.
Second, for deploying to multiple customer devices, use Hockeyapp (hockeyapp.net) to distribute the appx or use enterprise app feature.
I am trying to deploy my windows 10 uwp app to the windows store. I got a validated developer account and everything set up. My app packages have been built and passed all tests of the testing kit. Now I am trying to perform the last step: uploading to the store.
The problem is, that the "Upload App Packages..." is greyed out! I tryed to clean the project, selected the project to no avail.
Has anyone got an idea what the problem might be or how to further debug it? As there is not error message I am not certain what is wrong in the first place...
Thank you!
According to the documentation, this option merely opens the Dev center dashboard. Save yourself the trouble and open it directly in your web browser: https://dev.windows.com
To be honest, for some reason I don't even have this option in my Visual Studio (maybe it was removed in VS 2015?). I've always generated the packages from VS then uploaded them with the web browser, without any trouble.
Goto in Release Configuration and Check .net native tool chain and optimize code then create app package again (Don't forget to associate app to store first)
I am trying to submit a Windows Phone 8.0 xap file to the store. It uploads, after the upload it says "Analyzing package", then "An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later. If the problem continues, contact support."
I contacted Microsoft, they told me to clear the cache, history, etc. and try again. I emptied my browsers and restarted, but it didn't work. And I guess the problem is not really about the browsers, because they are able to upload the xap files but they don't get accepted by Microsoft's system.
I also tried an old xap file which was accepted by Microsoft before. I stil get the same error, so that's probably not about my packages.
I solved this problem after create fresh app using command line. And allocate that app name on app store. i guess there would be problem of Microsoft Server.
Create App pakages option is disabled..
Cuz i have to upload my app package so as to publish it.. so am stuck with it.
i Have also logind with my developer microsoft account to0.
Edit:
actually in Visual Studio 2013,
in PROJECT > STORE> (all the options available are disabled)... so this the problem.
If your app is Windows Phone 8.1 App, you can create appx package using project -> store in vs.
But if your app is Windows Phone 8 App or Windows Phone Silverlight 8.1 App, you don't need to create appx file, the only file you need is xap file in Bin/Release(or Debug) folder. When you publish it, just upload your xap file is OK.
Happened the same to me, and (after 20 minutes of VS restarts), I realized the Project needs to be selected instead of the Solution at the Solution Explorer.
This way all Store options are enabled again.
Im trying to deploy XAP files to my Lumia 620. They work if i download them from the store but when i try and load another XAP from somewhere else, e.g. TimeMe or from Windows Phone Hub, the phone fails to show them. Any idea why?
The Windows Phone 8 OS architecture doesn't allow installation of non store applications, to support this they have restricted the loading of XAP files from other download sources.
In some countries Window Phone store comes with a option for installation from SD Card option, under this option you will be able to view XAP files on your storage media of phone, if you select that XAP file the store application will check for that application in the Windows Store and if it is a free app it will get installed otherwise it will ask to buy for a license of the app to install it.
The Windows Phone hub is for enterprise environment, where a company distributes its LOB apps to its employees, if you are able to access company hub app than you must be able to download and install the app. Even in this case the process is automated as in case of Windows Store and nowhere you will manually unpack the final XAP file.
Windows Phone will not let you install XAP files that are not certified in the WP Store. The only way you'll be able to install XAP files yourself is to either:
Download and install a WP Store signed XAP file. You can do this by going to an app's page on your computer, downloading the XAP file, transferring it to your SD card, and installing it through the Store app.
Download and install a unsigned XAP file that hasn't been through the WP Store yet. You can install these XAP files on a developer unlocked phone using the Application Deployment program included with the WP8 SDK.
The app TimeMe that you included as an example is an unsigned XAP file. You can "sideload" this app through the Application Deployment program.
