i am trying to get the glyphicon-log-in in the center of the bootstrap navbar and not even getting into the navbar mean it is showing above the navbar, when debugging.
<a class="navbar-brand pull-left" href="/"><img src="images/logo.png" alt="Elunika"></a>
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-log-in" id="logIcon"></span>
<div class="nav-collapse collapse navbar-responsive-collapse">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav pull-right">
<li class="active">

</li>
<li>

</li>
</ul>

</li>
</ul>
</div>
and css for logIcon is as follows
#logIcon{
position: absolute;
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
}
thank you for any help in advance
From your linked bootsnipp, you only have to replace the word "brand" with your glyphicon span.
<div class="navbar-brand navbar-brand-centered"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-log-in" id="logIcon"></span></div>
Here's the code in a working fiddle: http://www.bootply.com/EmzUMHPXqd
http://www.bootply.com/eHiWDODA83
You could create a new class for the icon like this..
.navbar-center
{
position: absolute;
width: 100%;
top: 0;
text-align: center;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
And then use markup like this..
<nav class="navbar" role="navigation">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse">
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<a class="navbar-center navbar-text" href="#"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-log-in" id="logIcon"></span></a>
<div class="navbar-collapse collapse">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="/"><img src="images/logo.png" alt="Elunika"></a>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li class="active">
HOME
</li>
<li>

</li>
<li class="dropdown">
WHO, HOW & WHAT?
<ul class="dropdown-menu">
<li>

</li>
<li>
WHAT IS IT?
</li>
<li>

I want to place the menu below the logo without using margin on the ul list (since that will spoil the mobile responsiveness and collapse property of bootstrap) .. instead i want to do it with using row and column functions of bootstrap but since im new to it im not able to make it.. any sort of help really appreciated.. thanks in advance..
I've searched and maybe this will help.
.navbar .navbar-nav {
display: inline-block;
float: none;
vertical-align: top;
}

Center content in responsive bootstrap navbar
You can still use the margin property to achieve this, however if you want to eliminate the changed margin for collapsed menu bar, you can use CSS Media queries to change the margin back to zero. Ofcourse, there will be a certain screen size, where the navbar changes to collapsable navbar so you will need Media Queries.
#media only screen and (max-width:--px)
{
//your nav-bar code goes here
}
You have to take a row top of the navbar.
<div class="container">
<img src="images/logostack.gif" alt="logo" class="img-responsive col-md-2">
<nav class="navbar navbar-default col-md-10" id="my-navbar">
// Your navbar code

You have to know about Bootstrap Grid.
On smaller devices the text ("JH") currently moves underneath the collapsed menu toggle on the left side of the navbar - is there a way to align it so that "JH" is level with the menu toggle but on the right side of the navbar instead? I'm struggling with how to achieve this but I'm sure it's very simple. Many thanks in advance, Jon
My code is as follows:-
<nav class="navbar navbar-default">
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button class="navbar-toggle" data-target=".navbar-collapse"
data-toggle="collapse" type="button"><span class=
"icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class=
"icon-bar"></span></button>
</div>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li class="active">
JH
</li>
</ul>
<div class="navbar-collapse collapse" id="navbar">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>
<span>About</span>
</li>
<li>
<span>Resume</span>
</li>
<li>
<span>Portfolio</span>
</li>
<li>
<span>Blog</span>
</li>
<li>
<span>Contact</span>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>

Put this
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li class="active">
JH
</li>
</ul>
inside <div class="navbar-header">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button class="navbar-toggle" data-target=".navbar-collapse"
data-toggle="collapse" type="button"><span class=
"icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class=
"icon-bar"></span></button>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li class="active">
JH
</li>
</ul>
</div>
You're navbar has add HTML that shouldn't be necessary. See docs.
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li class="active">
JH
</li>
</ul>
If you want to add a background color to the brand, just use CSS. See example.
.navbar.navbar-custom .navbar-brand {
background: #e7e7e7;
}

<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.5/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.5/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-custom">
<div class="container">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button class="navbar-toggle" data-target=".navbar-collapse" data-toggle="collapse" type="button"><span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button> <a class="navbar-brand" href="http://www.jonhowlett.uk/home.html">JH</a>
</div>
<div class="navbar-collapse collapse" id="navbar">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">

<li> <span>Resume</span>
</li>
<li> <span>Portfolio</span>

<li> <span>Blog</span>
</li>
<li> <span>Contact</span>
</li>

</div>

I have this navbar. It works great in regular screen width, but when collapsed, the mobile navbar button doesn't work. I've tried to find any unclosed divs and other issues but can't identify any. Thanks in advance for any help! Apologies for the beginner question

Clean-up your HTML and it should work fine. There are several missing close tags (/ul, /div) and the /h4 is closed at the end.

I looked at the source code of my own bootstrap website and I'm pretty sure it should work.
I am having issue with using bootstrap navbar with an image logo that overflows on the navbar. The issue is on the collapsed menu when opened on the iPhone. It looks something like this:
Here's the link to my site. Here's how I handle the image logo on the navbar:
<div class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top brandon-grotesque-bold">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar-collapse">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>

<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand nav-title-logo" href="http://test.com/"> </a>
</div>
<div class="navbar-collapse in" id="navbar-collapse" style="height: auto;">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li>
<a href="/">

</li>
<li>

<ul id="registerCart" class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>

</li>
<li class="divider-vertical"></li>
<li>

</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
I am using a background image for the logo. Any ideas on how to fix this? It seems that when I remove: webkit-box-sizing: border-box; from bootstrap it works just fine. I am not sure if this is the way to go.
What about adding something like
.navbar-collapse {
min-width: 100px;
}
