SVG width and height not behaving as expected - html

I currently have an SVG file, the standard text at the top is there as follows:

I've tried changing the width and height to 50%, 100%, 10% etc... and in Chrome it just takes up the whole screen, as if it's 100%, no matter what I try. It's as if there is an issue with using percent.
In Internet Explorer, the image doesn't take up the whole page, it's alot smaller at 100%.
I understand that I could place this into a div element and then resize that but this issue is bothering me. Obviously, I want to use percentages to get a responsive layout, which does happen, it just doesn't get any smaller than 100%, whatever I do.
I'm not using an img tag in the html. I'm using an object tag like so:

SVG won't scale

Good Afternoon,
I know this question has been asked over and over but I can't seem to find the answer to fix my problem in any of the post i've searched.. which is a lot!
So I have a container Div which I want my SVG to scale to (100%).
I currently have HTML of

</div>
I have also changed the HTML to try width="100%" as well as no width specified at all.
Div CSS is

text-align: center;}
SVG info (or at least what I think is the important bit)

I have the width and height set to 100% within the SVG.
It weirdly will be the correct size if changes are made to on the google console but on initial load or refreshing the page it's too small!
I've tried clear all css styles putting it within a Div, incase something on the template is upsetting it

Just use this:

Setting both the width and height to 100% will scale the image to the parent (<div>).
PS.: Your code wasn't working because you were trying to scale the <div>, not the <object>.

shrink svg image using viewBox

How can I get the svg image below to scale right bak to 40px by 40px.

Now control the width of the <svg> by adjusting the width of the wrapper.
As per why doesn't changing viewBox work, it's because the <svg> is a document, which has infinite size in theory, and the viewBox is just the window you watch this document through. <svg> is not an image. It's a document.

A: It needs a viewBox so you can define the size of what gets printed in your context in order to have control over it. If you have a viewBox and you use CSS to resize the <svg> you will transform what gets printed according to the ratio between viewBox and <svg> size. Without viewBox, you have no control over the contents of svg. It just gets printed the same size at all times, with a 1:1 ratio between svg units and document pixels, and the <svg> in your document acts as a viewBox. When bigger, you see all the contents, but they won't stretch to fit. When smaller, the contents will be cropped. Without viewBox you have no control over the size of the contents of <svg>. That's why you need a viewBox.

You have an error in your svg definition, with is misspelled and should be width. You don't need to add px in width or height, just the svg width and height values.

Why is my svg not appearing?

I saved an .svg from Photoshop with the dimensions I want it to appear as by default. It appeared fine on the page using the following markup, but was blurry.

So, I re-saved the .svg in larger dimensions from Photoshop (overwriting the existing image), and I tried setting the viewBox attribute in the .svg to the dimensions I want the image to appear as, (see the code below). Now I don't see the image appear on my web page. Here's the .svg code:

When I look at my webpage, I see that the .svg is still scaled to it's original dimensions:

The element is contained within a div. I've tried setting height and width of the containing div as percentages.

I needed to set height and width on the svg and the image contained inside the svg, to the desired pixel dimensions. I also set the svg viewBox attribute (which specifies that the visible area of the svg should be from the top left corner (0 0) to the bottom right corner (21 21) of the svg:)

SVG's not inheriting values from parent

So this seems to be a bug that just cropped up in Chrome today (and Firefox apparently).
I have an SVG wrapped inside a span (I've tried div's and object tags as well, it doesn't seem to matter), and that span has a specified height and width. Yesterday, the child element would size itself appropriately to the full dimensions of it's parent, as every other html element does. However, now, that SVG element is not getting the inherited size from its parent, and is sizing itself based off the actual size of the SVG.

Now, this happens in Chrome (both on Windows and Mac), and Firefox, but not IE or Safari. Ideas on how to fix the issue, or where it came up from?
The only workaround I have now is to specifically set the svg size to inherit from it's parent.

1. Chrome: Version 36.0.1985.125 m
2. Firefox: 30.0
