I'm looking for a way to create an executable program where I can use HTML as UI instead of native elements like in a Windows Form application, or a Java form application.
One requirement is that I also need to be able to create text files locally. These text files will be created when a button is pressed somewhere in the HTML UI.
Another thing is that it should be able to run on both Windows and MacOS.
So I'm really looking for something like PhoneGap/Cordova. But then for a desktop OS.
Anyone any idea if something like this is possible?
Chromiumembedded might be what your'e looking for.
You could also have a look at Titanium.

We have a Perl application which contains a Perl/TK based GUI ( some checkboxes, entry fields, etc.)
I have been asked to modify the Perl / TK GUI part of the application so that it can be run inside a web page. Is this possible?

however it appears to create a web client and parsing the HTML response to format the output, as opposed to running inside a browser.
I would like to know if it is possible to somehow incorporate a Perl/TK GUI into web browser and if so what is the best way to do so? Maybe something like a plugin (ex. http://www.tcl.tk/software/plugin/)?
The usual way would be to rewrite your application in HTML/CSS/JavaScript. The example you show on the O'Reilly site does the opposite - it shows you how to write a Tk application that will render HTML.
A browser plugin is possible if that will provide what you need. If that is the case then the problem is trivial, but you would need the plugin installed on every PC that needs to have access to your application, and it is possible that there are certain Tk facilities that the plugin doesn't support. All you can do is try it.
There was a project for Netscape that was mentioned in Mastering Perl/Tk called PerlPlus. But it looks like the Sourceforge page hasn't been touched in a while. The intent was to run Perl (and PerlTk) code in a Netscape browser.
When using browseForOpen, browseForOpenMultiple and browseForSave in Adobe AIR, the dialogue that comes up is a bit old-fashioned, and looks like a Windows XP dialog, despite me running Windows 7. It has the Windows 7 border, but I mean the buttons and such look a bit like that of Windows XP.
So I'm wondering, is there a way to make it look more "modern"?

the only argument that is available for FileReference.browse() is typeFilter, so I'd assume you can't :P
it probably has to do with the implementation of the method onto the native OS. maybe a native extension could solve the case.

I recently realised that this only happens when debugging an app. When you actually install the application and browse for files, the windows displays as it should.
I'm not sure if this has always been so and I only noticed it now, or perhaps that an AIR update has changed this.
I am presently started working with mobile development and would like to know which is the best way to work with Html,css and jquery/Javascript for WP7.
As I have seen couple of things on the web as Phone Gap,Jquery mobile and Appcelerator Titanium
1.I have some of the problems actually this is not a problem but as PhoneGap gives a starter template with C# solution.
But I'm working on VB.Net.I'm unable to work with the C# solution as If I convert to VB.Net the entire starter template it is not working.
2.Just now I had a look at Jquery mobile there is no specific documentation mentioned how to use it with emulator in WP7.
Can anyone show me the links where I can start with the basics of Jquery mobile with WP7 emulator.
3.Do you think there is any other best way so that I Can work with jquery, html and css in WP7.
It sounds like PhoneGap is your best option here. Right now, it's the best way to deploy an HTML-based application on Windows Phone. The main thing that PhoneGap gives you is a bridge to the phone's hardware (things like volume buttons, vibration, etc.). It also gives you an easy way to wrap up your application into a package that can be installed like a real native app.
By themselves, other frameworks like jQuery Mobile, Sencha Touch and Kendo UI don't provide hardware access or the ability to deploy the app natively. They are purely UI frameworks, meaning they provide the interface widgets you'll use to build your app but little else. Generally, with these frameworks, you need to host the app somewhere like a website and access it through the browser.
Assuming you're running a Windows machine, you could host the app locally for development using Internet Information Services (IIS). Here's a guide to setting up a site. Then you could open the emulator and go to http://localhost to interact with your app. That would work, but it would be clunky.
The ideal scenario is to use both jQuery Mobile (or another UI framework) and PhoneGap to create a nice-looking, natively installable app.
What I'd recommend is trying to get PhoneGap set up in a VB project. From what I've seen, this shouldn't be too difficult. There are probably some details to work out, but mainly it looks like you need to copy the www and GapLib folders over. Then right click on References and browse to the GapLib .dll. You'll also need to get the MainPage.xaml and MainPage.vb files set up, but they probably just host a web browser control, so this should be straightforward.
Migrating the pieces into a new project should work a lot better than trying to convert an existing project.
If you post specific issues that you run into during the setup, I'm sure you could get them answered quickly.
I would like to use an xml file to create a html email. I can create an xsl file to convert it to html but I don't know how I can then save or copy the generated html. Obviously if I view the source of the xml file I just get the xml source, not the transformed html. What is the simplest or quickest way possible without me having to use Java or C# or anything like that? Is there a web service that can do it? I've googled but with no luck.

If I have to do a bit of coding to do this then I could probably manage it in php, javascript, java, vbscript or possibly python. I'd be surprised if a tool to easily do what I want hasn't already been created and made available publicly though.
EDIT 2 - Solution found
I've discovered that clicking 'View generated source' in the Web Developer toolbar of Firefox shows me the html. This is all I need, I can then copy and paste this. I'd still be interested to hear if anyone has any better suggestions though...
What you probably need is an XSLT-Processor.
On most Linux machines xsltproc should be available at the commandline (or be easily installed with 'sudo apt-get install xsltproc').
On Windows msxsl should be the right commandline tool (I didn't test it).
You could create a WinForms app and drop a WebBrowser control on it, though I'm not sure if that will let you save the rendered page without any user interaction.
I am looking for a tool that can help me converting my swf to exe and app. I know that there are several options available. My application will be frequently updated so update feature is essentions for me. Does anybody know a converter that might help me?
Any suggestions are welcome!
p.s. As another option, I can make app and exe out of a loader app that will load main application module every time it is updated.

You can use flajector or f-in-box developer's library.
You may already be aware of this, but there is an existing publishing tool you can use inside of Flash Professional.
The publisher is in different menus on different versions of flash (CS4 to CS5) and on different operating systems (Windows vs Mac) so I'll just give you the "hot key"
While inside of flash, press Shift+Alt+F12 and that will bring up some publish options. For an exe file you will want to select Win Projector or the option with .exe. Mac Projector or .app will do the same for mac. Hit publish once your preference is select and viola, that's it!
