How to show collapse menu in mobile only? - html

I have a bootstrap 3 collapse menu.
It looks like this in iphone:
Here is the code:
<div class="navbar navbar-fixed-top visible-phone">
<div class="navbar-inner">
<div class="container">
<!--Button to collapse the Navigation-->
<a class="btn btn-navbar" data-toggle="collapse"
data-target=".nav-collapse">
<img src="images/expand-menu-button.png"></a>
<div class="nav-collapse collapse">
<ul class="nav nav-justified">
<li>Velkommen</li>
<li class="dropdown">
<a href="#" class="dropdown-toggle"
data-toggle="dropdown">
<span class="caret"></span></a>
<ul class="dropdown-menu" role="menu">
<li><a href="Personale"</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
<!--/.nav-collapse -->
</div>
</div>
</div>
But I need to show normal menu in ipad and desktop. Now this menu button applying for ipad and desktop as well. How can I overcome that issue?

Take a look at this, maybe it'll help. If you scale it in your desktop window it'll appropriately jump to mobile display when necessary.
<nav role="navigation" class="navbar navbar-default">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" data-target="#navbarCollapse" data-toggle="collapse" class="navbar-toggle">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
Welcome
</div>
<!-- Collection of nav links and other content for toggling -->
<div id="navbarCollapse" class="collapse navbar-collapse">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-left">
<li>Link 1</li>
<li>Link 2</li>
</ul>
</div>
</nav>

I believe the problem is in your navbar class. You are missing role="navigation" which makes the navbar accessible from different devices and sizes. You should not need the visible-phone either.
Change:
<div class="navbar navbar-fixed-top visible-phone">
To:
<div class="navbar navbar-fixed-top visible-phone" role="navigation">
Another problem may be fixed by changing:
<div class="nav-collapse collapse">
To:
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse">

Possibly you're missing the viewport meta tag that's used to enable responsiveness, as mentioned in the Bootstrap docs?:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

Bootstrap Nav Bar Not Responsive on smaller devices

I have the following html, which features a bootstrap nav bar. As you can see, there is a menu item called "Coverage" with one link called "Add Coverage". This works fine on larger screens, but when I resize to make it smaller, as expected the Toggle navigation appears. When I click this and the menu expands to show everything, the Funds, Intraday Orders, and Reports still work fine, however clicking on the Coverage item does NOT result in the Add Coverage link being shown. Nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
<body>
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-static-top" style="padding: 0px;">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header pull-left">
<a class="navbar-brand pull-left" href="#Url.Action("Index", "Home", new { goHome = "true" })"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-home"></span></a>
</div>
<div class="navbar-header">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse" class="navbar-toggle">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse navbar-left">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav pull-left menu-item-spacing">
<li>#Html.ActionLink("Analysts", "Index", "Analyst")</li>
<li class="dropdown">
<a class="dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown" href="#">Coverage<span class="caret"></span></a>
<ul class="dropdown-menu">
<li>#Html.ActionLink("Add Coverage", "AddCoverageSearch", "Coverage")</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>#Html.ActionLink("Funds", "List", "Holding", null, null)</li>
<li>#Html.ActionLink("Intraday Orders", "Account", "Blotter", new { analystname = #user.UserName }, null)</li>
<li>Reports</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
HTML created is as follows:
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top" style="padding: 0px;">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header pull-left">
<a class="navbar-brand pull-left" href="/?goHome=true"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-home"></span></a>
</div>
<div class="navbar-header">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse" class="navbar-toggle">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse navbar-left">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav pull-left menu-item-spacing">
<li>Analysts</li>
<li class="dropdown">
<a class="dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown" href="#">Coverage<span class="caret"></span></a>
<ul class="dropdown-menu">
<li>All Coverage</li>
<li>Coverage Assignments</li>
<li>Portfolio Coverage</li>
<li>Portfolio Snapshot</li>
<li>Writeup Sections</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Funds</li>
<li>Intraday Orders</li>
<li>Reports</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
The structure of the code you've presented seems very atypical for Bootstrap. For example, you have your .navbar-toggle inside a duplicate of .navbar-header which also houses your .collapse.
If you were to restructure your Navbar component to better match the recommendations and styles of Bootstrap 3.x you would use code like below:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" integrity="sha384-BVYiiSIFeK1dGmJRAkycuHAHRg32OmUcww7on3RYdg4Va+PmSTsz/K68vbdEjh4u" crossorigin="anonymous">
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.12.4/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/js/bootstrap.min.js" integrity="sha384-Tc5IQib027qvyjSMfHjOMaLkfuWVxZxUPnCJA7l2mCWNIpG9mGCD8wGNIcPD7Txa" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#null"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-home"></span></a>
<button type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse" class="navbar-toggle">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>Analysts</li>
<li class="dropdown">
<a class="dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown" href="#">Coverage<span class="caret"></span></a>
<ul class="dropdown-menu">
<li>All Coverage</li>
<li>Coverage Assignments</li>
<li>Portfolio Coverage</li>
<li>Portfolio Snapshot</li>
<li>Writeup Sections</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Funds</li>
<li>Intraday Orders</li>
<li>Reports</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
In the above code every link under .dropdown-menu appears as expected. The entire navigational menu collapses on smaller screens, again as expected. If the above code results in a different result when inserted into your project I would suspect the problem is some additional CSS or JavaScript that is in conflict.
Two Caveats I would offer:
(1) The above code assumes you're using Bootstrap 3.x. This is based on some of the classes called in your code which do not exist in 4.x. If you're using 4.x that might also be causing some of your problems as the structure for the Navbar component has changed.
(2) For the purposes of a minified example I've removed a lot of additional styles or references to classes that aren't part of Bootstrap. I've also removed the class="dropdown-toggle hidden-sxm" from under the "Reports" link as that link is not a dropdown menu and hidden-sxm is not a Bootstrap class.

navbar-right partial collapse

I'm having a hard time figuring out how I can implement bootstrap 3 menu in a way such that it's right-floated and part of it collapse, e.g.:
Brand Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 Item 4
when collapsed look that way:
Brand Item 4 [Toggle menu]
I think I'm getting close, but can't make it work properly:
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<div class="navbar navbar-default" role="navigation">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".menu-collapse">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Brand</a>
</div>
<div class="navbar-right">
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse menu-collapse">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>Test right-middle</li>
</ul>
</div>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>Test right-most</li>
</ul>
</div>
Any ideas how I can fix "test right-most" not to get pushed to next line?
Include a separate navbar-header for the non-collapsible item
<nav role="navigation" class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top">
<div class="container">
<!-- Title -->
<div class="navbar-header pull-left">
BRAND
</div>
<!-- 'Sticky' (non-collapsing) right-side menu item(s) -->
<div class="navbar-header pull-right">
<ul class="nav pull-left">
<li class="navbar-text pull-left">Item 3</li>
</ul>
<!-- Required bootstrap placeholder for the collapsed menu -->
<button type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse" class="navbar-toggle"><span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span><span class="icon-bar"></span><span class="icon-bar"></span><span class="icon-bar"></span></button>
</div>
<!-- Additional navbar items -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse navbar-right">
<!-- pull-right keeps the drop-down in line -->
<ul class="nav navbar-nav pull-right">
<li>Item 1</li>
<li>Item 2</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
JSFIDDLE
Try to place the contents inside of a div with the class: navbar-header
So instead of declaring:
<div class="navbar-right">
Use the following class instead:
<div class="navbar-header pull-right">

Bootstrap v3.3.6 Navbar toggle button shows but doesn't display the Menu

My Navbar works fine and everything on it about form when i try to collapse it, it shows everything, the button included but doesn't display the menu items. I have no idea why. I am using Bootstrap 3.3.6.
<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-fixed-top">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#mainNavBar">
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Welcome</a>
</div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="mainNavBar">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>Home </li>
<li>About </li>
<li>Contact </li>
</ul>
</div><!--/.nav-collapse -->
</div>
It is working fine in Codepen So my guess would be you forgot to include JQuery or bootstrap.js in your html page.
You can download JQuery from here.

BUG: Bootstrap Fixed Collapsible Navbar

I am having a bit of trouble with my top fixed collapsible bootstrap navbar.
Whenever I click on a link of my navigation bar, a strange horizontal bar that looks like a horizontal scrollbar appears above the navbar and then disappears instantly.
I tried removing all my JS , CSS, and the rest of the page leaving only the navbar, and the bug is still there, so I assume it is something about the syntax of that navbar.
Below is the code
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top" role="navigation">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar">
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="index.php">My Web</a>
</div>
<div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li>Home</li>
<li>Proyecto</li>
<li>Galería</li>
<li>Planos</li>
<li>Ubicación</li>
<li>Contacto</li>
</ul>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li style="font-size:12px"><a>(0000) 4444-4444</a></li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
Also, bootstrap scrollspy is not working for me on this navbar. I guess it might be the same issue.
Thank you very much for your assistance
EDIT: I found that the problem is on making the navbar collapsible. If I remove the data attributes from the li elements, this problem is gone, but on mobile when I touch on some link the navbar doesnt collapse back.
There is a known bug in bootstrap, according to this post :
Bootstrap 3 nav dropdown
You have to add some CSS to fix it :
.navbar-collapse.in {
overflow-y: visible;
}
This a demo page you need to modify as you needs..DEMO Page
HTML part
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top" role="navigation">
<div class="container-fluid">
<!-- Brand and toggle get grouped for better mobile display -->
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse"
data-target="#bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span> <span
class="icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span
class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">My Application</a>
</div>
<!-- Collect the nav links, forms, and other content for toggling -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="bs-example-navbar-collapse-1">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li>Home</li>
<li>Home</li>
<li>Home</li>
</ul></div>
</div></nav>
I found the solution to my problem.
The solution was adding .in class to the data-target attribute of the li elements on the navbar.
<nav class="navbar navbar-default navbar-fixed-top" role="navigation">
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="navbar-header">
<button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar">
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
<a class="navbar-brand" href="index.php">My Web</a>
</div>
<div>
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbar">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
<li data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar.in">Home</li>
<li data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar.in">Proyecto</li>
<li data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar.in">Galería</li>
<li data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar.in">Planos</li>
<li data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar.in">Ubicación</li>
<li data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar.in">Contacto</li>
</ul>
<ul class="nav navbar-nav">
<li style="font-size:12px"><a>(54+11) 4444-4444</a></li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
Maxime Mettley's comment helped. Thank you. But since I was seeing a scrollbar during the collapsing activity, I needed to fix it like this:
.navbar-collapse.in, .navbar-collapse.collapsing {
overflow-y: visible;
}
Bootstrap applies the "collapsing" class as the menu collapses, then "in" once the collapse is complete. I hope this helps someone else.

Bootstrap navbar collapsing issue when there are some non collapsed items.

I'm trying to implement a menu in a webpage with Bootstrap that has some items which are not collapsed in extra-small screens.
I've been able to do progress implementing it. When the screen is extra-small, the items I want to not collapse are working as they should. But the problem is when I click on the navbar-toggle button, the collapsed menu shows up only on the right side of the screen and it's not screen wide as it normally is.
How can I fix this issue?
<nav role="navigation" class="navbar navbar-inverse">
<div class="container">
<!-- Title -->
<div class="navbar-header pull-left">
<a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Projeto</a>
</div>
<!-- 'Sticky' (non-collapsing) right-side menu item(s) -->
<div class="navbar-header pull-right">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav pull-left">
<li class="pull-left"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-envelope" aria-hidden="true"></span> </li>
</ul>
<!-- Required bootstrap placeholder for the collapsed menu -->
<button type="button" style="margin-left:20px;" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse" class="navbar-toggle">
<span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span>
<span class="icon-bar"></span><span class="icon-bar"></span>
</button>
</div>
<!-- The Collapsing items navbar-left or navbar-right -->
<div class="collapse navbar-collapse navbar-left">
<ul class="nav navbar-nav pull-right">
<li class="active">Inicio</li>
<li class="dropdown">
O Curso <span class="caret"></span>
<ul class="dropdown-menu">
<li>Sobre o Curso</li>
<li>Disciplinas</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Professores</li>
<li>Laboratórios</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</nav>
Try adding navbar-fixed-top with a margin to the top of the collapsed div.
