Align div content in the middle using only auto or % - html

i'm with some problems here.. I've tried a lot of different fixes for this, but none of them seems to work. I want to align the content of a div in the middle of another div.
I want to use only auto or % values because i want to make the website also for mobile devices.
This is the code i have so far: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/xHpaF/
I want to make those red boxes aligned to the center of the wrap div.
If anyone can help me. Thanks!

Well, first of all, your <div id="content" /> is an ID, not a class. So change your .content in the CSS to #content. Second of all, float throws off the text-align: center;. If you remove that, and set it to display: inline-block;, it should fix your issues:
check it here: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/ncviE/
css changes:
#content {
width:auto;
height:250px;
margin:0 auto;
background:#0C0;
display:table-cell;
text-align:center;
}
.view {
display: inline-block;
float: none;
}

How to perfectly vertical align navigation buttons with responsive image

I want to make the button always aligns vertically on the middle of the image responsively. I can make the image responsive using .img-responsive, however I can't make the arrow to be always on the middle of the image. I suspect the issue is because I can't make the height of the arrow's div to be equal the height of the image. Any way to do so?
Here is my jsFiddle..
PS: for those who can come up with better words please change the title.. ^^
CSS only solution. Using the display table and table-cell combo, you can achieve what you are looking for. I had never really tried it before, as far as I know, but searched around a bit and found a solution which gave me a good starting point to achieve what I needed.
The trick is to have a container which will possess the display table property. Inside that wrapper, you will have all your other elements, which will possess the table-cell property, in order to have them behave properly and stack themselves next to each other, as table-cell would to do.
By giving your table-cells a 100% height, they will adapt themselves to the height of the wrapper, giving you the chance to use the handy little table property going by the name: vertical align. Use the middle vertical align property to center perfectly your nav buttons.
Give your image the max-width 100% property for proper responsive behavior. But don't use bootstrap's own image responsive class because it contains css properties we don't want and that messes up our layout.
I reworked the html a bit, so that each element align perfectly, in the correct order.
WORKING EXAMPLE JSFIDDLE
HTML:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-12">
<div class="image-container">
<div class="prev-btn nav-btn"> < </div>
<div class="inner-container">
<img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8072/8346734966_f9cd7d0941_z.jpg" class="center-block">
</div>
<div class="next-btn nav-btn"> > </div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS:
.image-container{
display:table;
height: 100%;
text-align:center;
}
.inner-container{
display:table-cell;
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
padding: 0 15px;
vertical-align: middle;
text-align: center;
}
.inner-container img{
width: 100%;
height: auto;
max-width: 100%;
}
.nav-btn{
font-size:50px;
font-weight:700;
font-family: monospace;
color: #000;
cursor:pointer;
}
.nav-btn:hover{
color: #B6B6B6;
}
.prev-btn{
position: relative;
height: 100%;
display: table-cell;
vertical-align: middle;
}
.next-btn{
position: relative;
height: 100%;
display: table-cell;
vertical-align: middle;
}
Here's a simple solution in Javascript/Jquery. The trick is to adjust the position of each NAV buttons according to the height of the image each time the browser id resized. Dividing the image height by 2 will get you the center of the image, aka the position where you will want your buttons to be. Using only this value will no be enough, you also need to get the center value of your nav buttons. Substracting each values will give you the real position value for your buttons. The ScreenResize function will then update the position each time the image is scaled responsively.
$(function(){
//Call On Resize event on load
screenResize();
//Bind On Resize event to window
window.onresize = screenResize;
});
function screenResize() {
//Adjust Nav buttons position according to image height
$('.nav_btn').css({
'top': (($('.center-block').height() / 2)-($('.nav_btn').height() / 2))
});
}
Also, change the line-height of your buttons to this, it will help:
.nav_btn p{
line-height: 1.25;
}
Finally, use Media-Queries to change buttons font-size and line-height if necessary. Also, like user Valentin said, using images for the nav buttons could also be easier, you wouldn't have to use media-queries.

How do I prevent line breaks on centered images without using float left?

Fiddle
I have 2 divs, one that extends 100% and another that fits in a grid. The second div has 3 images in them. I want to center those 3 images without having any line breaks.
When I use
#socialMediaHolder img{
display:block;
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
}
It creates line breaks. Ive tried using a span and giving the span
span{
white-space:nowrap;
}
But this doesnt work. I could float the images left, but then they wont be centered.
How do I fix this?
Set the text-align: center on #socialMediaHolder
Set display: inline-block; on #socialMediaHolder img
Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/abhitalks/J6KMU/4/
#socialMediaHolder {
text-align: center;
}
#socialMediaHolder img {
display: inline-block;
...
}
Change the image's display style to inline.

EDIT
Set the wrapper div style to text-align:center, to center the images in it.

HTML relative centre align

I'm trying to centre align an image using a div and a CSS class (the tag is wrapped in a div class="center" tag). What I'm using at the moment is working in Dreamweaver (when I go to design view) but not when I load the page up in Safari. Here is my code:
.center {
display:inline;
text-align:center;
-webkit-inline;
-webkit-center;
background-color:transparent;
}
Sorry for asking such a simple question, I'm completely new to HTML, my experience is in Objective-C.
text-align: center caused the content to be centered (within the container), and not the container itself being centered.
Since you use display: inline, the size of the container will be the same as its content, and the centering will not have the effect you're after.
Either, you use the margin: 0 auto to center the container (towards its parent container), OR you change display: inline to display: block.
Give text-align:center; to it's .center parent DIV. Write like this:
HTML
<div class="parent">
<div class="center"></div>
</div>
CSS
.parent{
text-align:center;
}
.center {
display:inline;
background-color:transparent;
}
You can use margin : 0 auto , to a vertical align , but if you want a vertical-horizontal align , you need a code like this:
.center{
width:200px;
height:200px;
margin-left:-100px;
margin-top:-200px;
position:absolute;
top :50%;
left:50%;
}
margin: 0 auto. Is what you're looking for. You'll need a width also.
div.center { margin:0 auto; width: 20%;background:orange;}

Sounds simple but couldn't figure it out:
How do I center a fixed width div on a page?
By default, it goes to the left.
halign is deprecated but I can find a could replacement.
[update]
width:800px;left-margin:auto;right-margin:auto:
works great.
Is there a way to do this without setting a fixed width?
Try this:
<style>
.centered {
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
}
</style>
<div class="centered">
Some text
</div>
<div style="margin:0 auto">content here</div>
You can center any div that doesn't span the entire page. Say your div is
.div {
width: 80%;
margin: 0 auto;
}
Then it will work fine. As Evan said "display: inline-block;" will make the div as wide as its contents which will also work great with "margin: 0 auto;".
A div, by default, is the entire width of the page. You can center the contents by setting the css of the div to:
.mydiv
{
text-align: center;
}
OR
You can center the div itself by doing this:
.mydiv
{
display: inline-block; /* make it be only as wide as its contents */
margin: auto; /* centering magic by making the margins equal and maximum */
}
div {
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
As long as you have an appropriate doctype declared, centering a div on a page should be as easy as:
#someDiv {
width: 624px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
If you're using IE and you don't have a doctype declared (you're running in quirks mode), this won't work. The fix is to add the appropriate doctype declaration to your page. You can find the appropriate declaration here:
W3C QA - Recommended list of Doctype declarations you can use in your Web document
There's generally two ways of doing (that I've seen). One with the margin attribute and another with positioning and left:50%
http://jsfiddle.net/NvaEE/
<br>
<div class="first"> I have a fixe dwidth</div>
<br>
<div class="second"> I have a fixe dwidth</div>
div{width:200px; background:#ddd;}
div.first{margin:0 auto;}
div.second{position:absolute;left:50%;margin-left:-100px}
margin:auto; should do the trick, I guess?
You wrap it in a container div that spans the width of the page and give that container div the
text-align: center;
css attribute.
There are other methods, such as managing the margins and widths. For most cases, you can get by with text-align.

How to align a div inside td element using CSS class

It is working with this way
<td align="center">
But I want to use CSS class.
I defined class like this way but no luck
td
{
vertical-align: middle;
text-align: center;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
align: center;
}
Vertical align is working and text align is working for text. But it does not align div inside td with this way. I want to align div inside td.
div { margin: auto; }
This will center your div.
Div by itself is a blockelement. Therefor you need to define the style to the div how to behave.
I cannot help you much without a small (possibly reduced) snippit of the problem. If the problem is what I think it is then it's because a div by default takes up 100% width, and as such cannot be aligned.
What you may be after is to align the inline elements inside the div (such as text) with text-align:center; otherwise you may consider setting the div to display:inline-block;
If you do go down the inline-block route then you may have to consider my favorite IE hack.
width:100px;
display:inline-block;
zoom:1; //IE only
*display:inline; //IE only
Happy Coding :)
