I am trying to install the Clouse script on our server and I am connecting via SSH.
Everytime I get to the install part in SSH I am getting this error:
ERROR 1142 (42000) at line 1: INSERT command denied to user 'root'#'localhost' for table 'plugin'
I tried connecting to mySQL by typing my in the command line, once I am connected I try running this (for demo purposes this is false info - skittles would be my database, password1234 would be the password):
GRANT ALL ON skittles.* TO root#'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password1234';
It tells me success that 0 rows were effected in 0 seconds and then I use FLUSH PRIVILEGES
then quit and try to install again and keep getting the same error. Is there something I am doing wrong in the command line with the GRANT ALL ? Not sure why it is not working, not familiar with SSH to much so I would appreciate any insight

I'm a beginner with linux (linux mint distro) and I have been trying to install mysql server and workbench. I couldn't connect to mysql server without sudo command. I tried to connect to the server on workbench, and Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost'. So I try to run workbench with sudo from terminal. Nothing. So I followed what somebody posted here on stackoverflow about changing my password auth mode to mysql_native_password, and was able to access SQL Server from workbench (only using sudo command).
So I try to import a dump which I made on windows mysql-workbench, and it gives me two errors:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost' (using password: YES)
and
ERROR 1115 (42000) at line 24: Unknown character set: 'utf8_general_ci'
Nevertheless, the database seems to have been correctly imported (I can see values and columns and tables and they look alright).
What's happening and how to stop getting these access denied errors? I tried to search the web and there are different answers, but none of them seem to address first install. I don't see why wouldn't it work if I have made a pretty default install :(
Thanks a lot!
ps: I don't know if more specific info is needed. anonymous user was dropped after installation
Try resetting root password.
Step 1. Access to mysql using mysql -uroot
Step 2. Check the root user
select Host, User, authentication_string from mysql.user;
Step 3. Change password for root user
use mysql;
update user set authentication_string=password('NEWPASSWORD') where user='root';
flush privileges;
quit;
Now try accessing to mysql using mysql -uroot -p using new password. If it works, use the credentials in workbench.
I've searched a lot but nothing works for me.
I have a fresh installation of a LAMP server, installed via tasksel command.
My system runs php 7.4 and MySql 8
For some reason root user (that in my case is called phpmyadmin, by default) has no privileges on the DBs.
I can log in, so I'm sure the password is correct, but I cannot create a Database.
$ mysql -u phpmyadmin -p
mysql > create database test;
Access denied for user 'phpmyadmin'#'localhost' to database 'test'
EDIT
As suggested, here's the output of
mysql> SELECT name, Create_priv FROM mysql.user;
SELECT command denied to user 'phpmyadmin'#'localhost' for table 'user'
NEW EDIT
I tried to access without the password, following the guide reported here:
...
No results for me :(
Stop the MySQL Server: sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop (OK)
Start the mysqld configuration: sudo mysqld --skip-grant-tables
output:
[2] 2345
[1] Exit 1 sudo mysqld --skip-grant-tables
Run: sudo service mysql start
output
[2]+ Exit 1 sudo mysqld --skip-grant-tables
It seems to exit with errors... Am I wrong?
I also tried to login in that situation, but I receive this message "ERROR 1698 (28000) Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost'"
If I try my phpmyadmin user, the message is "ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'phpmyadmin'#'localhost' (using password: NO)"
EDIT 06/19/2020
I followed the steps reported here
How to reset or change the MySQL root password?
I had to use MD5() instead of PASSWORD() because it's now deprecated.
There's still something wrong.
Now I can access the database with no privileges and set/change my password.
Then I can flush all privileges.
Then I try...
mysql -u root -p
I enter my new password...
ERROR 1698 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost'
I can still log in with the user set in phpMyAdmin, but there are still no privileges for me.
I also reinstalled MySql server.
I remember I had a similar problem last time I installed an old Linux Virtual Machine, but I solved that issue easily. Now I'm wondering what's wrong :(
SOLVED
I reinstalled my virtual machine and installed manually both php and mysql server.
To be sure to set privileges in the right way I followed this small guide... maybe helpful for someone.

Bye!
I m trying to create new database through mysql or ssh but on both m getting error
mysql : CREATE DATABASE porto;
Error : Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost' to database 'porto' on ssh : ERROR 1044 (42000): Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost' to database 'porto'
mysql> CREATE USER 'testuser'#'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'ecomaddon#42';
ERROR 1227 (42000): Access denied; you need (at least one of) the CREATE USER privilege(s) for this operation
mysql> SELECT User,Host From mysql.user;
ERROR 1142 (42000): SELECT command denied to user 'root'#'localhost' for table 'user'
Its problem of privilege but don't know how give root user all privilege ai had try all methods but got nothing.
You can try to access as root
mysql -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3306 -u root -p
If it still does not work follow this guide
https://www.a2hosting.com/kb/developer-corner/mysql/managing-mysql-databases-and-users-from-the-command-line
you may be login as root but the root#localhost is not allowed for the actions you are executing.
mysql>CREATE USER 'root'#'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'enter_your_password_here';
mysql>exit
then try logging-in again
I think it's rights issue & It can be resolved by re configuring again. Here's a steps to reconfigure it.
Stop the current MySQL server instance:
sudo service mysql stop
Use dpkg to re-run the configuration process that MySQL goes through on first installation. You will again be asked to set a root password.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.5
Thanks for reply to all
i had solve i
1. first login to new user.
2. give access all to that users by update command .
3. drop root user and rename second user to root.
main problem was : when we create root it didn't give grant_priv field access users .
MySql is installed on a Ubuntu server.
I am running Windows 8.
Logging in through Putty. I can log in to database with both root and webadmin user accounts.
I can also log in through my browser, using <server ip address>/phpmyadmin
My problem is when I try to use command line to log in. I am trying that approach because I am developing a webpage to access the database on that server. It fails to connect, so I thought if command line works, the webpage will also work.
commandline:
mysql -u webadmin -p
or
mysql -u root -p
error 1045 (28000): access denied for user 'webadmin'#'localhost'
(using password: yes)
I added an iptables entry to allow mysql and that didn't work.
Also, the firewall on server is inactive.
You need to grant access to the database. You can read the documentation here: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/grant.html
You can run the following (but be careful as it will leave your DB open)
GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'root'#'%' WITH GRANT OPTION;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
That will allow root to connect from any IP and do any operations to the DB. If that still doesn't work, you might also need to run the following before the 2 lines above
CREATE USER 'root'#'%' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD '[your password]';
I've been using MAMP out of convenience but have run into major problems after mistakenly changing root permissions. I have not been able to resolve these problems and have opted for a fresh install of MAMP and moving over the db folders, which I read was possible. In doing so, I have a number of DBs which have tables that are MIA.
SHOW GRANTS FOR 'root'#'localhost'
response:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'#'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD '*81F5E21E35407D884A6CD4A731AEBFB6AF209E1B' WITH GRANT OPTION
GRANT PROXY ON ''#'' TO 'root'#'localhost' WITH GRANT OPTION
I can see the all the tables in the db folder but not all are not showing up in phpmyadmin.
I believe phpmyadmin connects as a socket "Server: Localhost via UNIX socket"
When I login into the console as root/localhost I can see all the tables.
Loggin into the console as root/127.0.0.1 I cannot see the DB at all.
I'm really stuck here and have pretty much lost a day of work because of this.
Update:
When I run mysql_update command I get the following response.
→ /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/mysql_upgrade -p
Enter password:

Looking for 'mysqlcheck' as: /Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/mysqlcheck
