Warning: mysql_num_rows() But only on webhost, not localhost - mysql

On localhost this works great. But when I upload files to server I get this error:
Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /storage/content/04/13fd39104/xxxxx.com/public_html/users/list.php on line 54
My code is:

Are you sure to have the same db strutture on server? Probably some column or table name are different from localhost. Check also if your db connection credentials are correct

Perhaps your database on server is not the same as your localhost.
add echo mysql_error(); after mysql_query to see details.

I would echo the query string before performing the query to see if it really is the string you think it should be. Most likely one of the variables is not defined so the query is failing. If that doesn't help you could also output any mysql errors after the query.
And of course, the obligatory suggestion to get off of the deprecated mysql_* functions! If you don't want to do PDO, check out mysqli and how very similar it is to the mysql functions if you use the procedural functions.

Use same mysqli prepared statement for different queries?

Throughout some testings; a little question popped up. When I usually code database updates; I usually do this via callbacks which I code in PHP; to which I simply pass a given mysqli connection object as function argument. Executing all queries of for example three queries across the same single connection proved to be much faster than if closing and reopening a DB connection for each query of a given query sequence. This also works easily with SQL transactions, the connection can be passed along to callbacks without any issues.
My question is; can you also do this with prepared statement objects ? What I mean is, considering we successfully established a $conn object, representing the mysqli connection, is stuff like this legit? :

During the testing; I noticed that the method by using a single statement object passed along callbacks works for server calls where I call like 4 not too complicated DB queries via the 4 according callbacks in a row.
When I however do a server call with like 10 different queries, sometimes (yes, only sometimes; for pretty much the same data used across the different executions; so this seems to be weird behavior to me) I get the error "Commands out of sync; you can't run this command now" and some other weird errors I've never experienced, like the amount of variables not matching the amount of parameters; although they prefectly do after checking them all. The only way to fix this I found after some research was indeed by using different statement objects for each callback. So, I just wondered; should you actually ALWAYS use ONE prepared statement object for ONE query, which you then may execute N times in a row?
Yes.
The "commands out of sync" error is because MySQL protocol is not like http. You can't send requests any time you want. There is state on the server-side (i.e. mysqld) that is expecting a certain sequence of requests. This is what's known as a stateful protocol.
Compare with a protocol like ftp. You can do an ls in an ftp client, but the list of files you get back depends on the current working directory. If you were sharing that ftp client connection among multiple functions in your app, you don't know that another function hasn't changed the working directory. So you can't be sure the file list you get from ls represents the directory you thought you were in.
In MySQL too, there's state on the server-side. You can only have one transaction open at a time. You can only have one query executing at a time. The MySQL client does not allow you to execute a new query where there are still rows to be fetched from an in-progress query. See Commands out of sync in the MySQL doc on common errors.
So if you pass your statement handle around to some callback functions, how can that function know it's safe to execute the statement?
IMO, the only safe way to use a statement is to use it immediately.

Building a query in PDO with parameters for table name [duplicate]

This is my PHP SQL statement and it's returning false while var dumping

TL;DR
Always have set PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE to PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION in your PDO connection code. It will let the database tell you what the actual problem is, be it with query, server, database or whatever. Also, make sure you can see PHP errors in general.
Always replace every PHP variable in the SQL query with a question mark, and execute the query using prepared statement. It will help to avoid syntax errors of all sorts.
Explanation
Sometimes your PDO code produces an error like Call to a member function execute() or similar. Or even without any error but the query doesn't work all the same. It means that your query failed to execute.
Every time a query fails, MySQL has an error message that explains the reason. Unfortunately, by default such errors are not transferred to PHP, and all you have is a silence or a cryptic error message mentioned above. Hence it is very important to configure PHP and PDO to report you MySQL errors. And once you get the error message, it will be a no-brainer to fix the issue.
In order to get the detailed information about the problem, either put the following line in your code right after connect
$dbh->setAttribute( PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION );
(where $dbh is the name of your PDO instance variable) or - better - add this parameter as a connection option. After that all database errors will be translated into PDO exceptions which, if left alone, would act just as regular PHP errors.
After getting the error message, you have to read and comprehend it. It sounds too obvious, but learners often overlook the meaning of the error message. Yet most of time it explains the problem pretty straightforward:
Say, if it says that a particular table doesn't exist, you have to check spelling, typos, letter case. Also you have to make sure that your PHP script connects to a correct database
Or, if it says there is an error in the SQL syntax, then you have to examine your SQL. And the problem spot is right before the query part cited in the error message.
You have to also trust the error message. If it says that number of tokens doesn't match the number of bound variables then it is so. Same goes for absent tables or columns. Given the choice, whether it's your own mistake or the error message is wrong, always stick to the former. Again it sounds condescending, but hundreds of questions on this very site prove this advice extremely useful.
Note that in order to see PDO errors, you have to be able to see PHP errors in general. To do so, you have to configure PHP depends on the site environment:
on a development server it is very handy to have errors right on the screen, for which displaying errors have to be turned on:
error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors',1);
while on a live site, all errors have to be logged, but never shown to the client. For this, configure PHP this way:
error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors', 0);
ini_set('log_errors', 1);
Note that error_reporting should be set to E_ALL all the time.
Also note that despite the common delusion, no try-catch have to be used for the error reporting. PHP will report you PDO errors already, and in a way better form. An uncaught exception is very good for development, yet if you want to show a customized error page, still don't use try catch for this, but just set a custom error handler. In a nutshell, you don't have to treat PDO errors as something special but regard them as any other error in your code.
P.S.
Sometimes there is no error but no results either. Then it means, there is no data to match your criteria. So you have to admit this fact, even if you can swear the data and the criteria are all right. They are not. You have to check them again. I've short answer that would help you to pinpoint the matching issue, Having issue with matching rows in the database using PDO. Some time ago I had the same problem of not seeing any error messages from mysql. After a research it turned out that the problem has got nothing to do with PHP itself, but with mysql server configuration. The default value of the variable lc_messages_dir pointed to non existing directory. After adding a line in mysqld.cnf, then restarted the mysql server, and finally I was able to see the error messages. For me the following was the right one:
lc_messages_dir=/usr/share/mysql

Query unexpectedly fails

I am creating a simple member system using MySQL, and have stumbled onto a problem.
The issue is that I am using the correct SQL query to search the column Username, and find Administrator, but however my query isn't finding anything.
I have searched the internet for a solution (with many results taking my back to Stack Overflow), but however have not found anything.
The query that I am using is:
SELECT * FROM members WHERE Username = "Administrator"
Which looks find from my end, but however does not return any results:
Am I doing something wrong here?
I am new to MySQL & PHP, so if something is obviously wrong with what I'm doing here, please tell me nicely, and please don't 'flame'.

I have a few hints which may help you resolve your problem.
Make the query itself a PHP variable, and echo it. Then copy and paste the echoed result into phpMyAdmin.
Use single quotes for query variables. The query itself should be in double quotes.
Unrelated: the password looks short. It shouldn't be stored in plain text.

Why does my Perl script fail to connect to the database?

I have a Perl script which retrieves data from MySQL Database. this is the code:

I am very sure the root can connect from any host and the password is also correct.
First, your immediate problem, is as #Sinan Ünür says, that you need to change $self{platform} to $self->{platform}, etc.
Your second immediate problem is that it appears you're getting $user and $password from nowhere (they are not passed to the function, so they are undefined unless they are global variables), which would explain the using password: NO part of the error. Maybe those should be $self->{user} and $self->{password}?
You should considering put this at the top of your module, at least during development, to automatically catch errors like these:
use warnings qw(all);
use strict;
But I'd also comment, that from a design perspective, you really ought to treat DSNs as opaque strings. Each database has its own DSN format. So if you ever want to target a different database, you'll need a different DSN format. Or, possibly, someday MySQL will use a different format (it already has two). Either way, it'll be much easier to change it one place, in a configuration file, than to track down each place you concatenate the various pieces together.
The key part of the warning that I see is "using password: NO". Check that the password is being set properly.
Presumably, $self is a hashref, not a plain hash, and you don't have warnings on. So, turn them on, and use $self->{platform} etc.

How can I get the database name from a Perl MySQL DBI handle?

I've connected to a MySQL database using Perl DBI. I would like to find out which database I'm connected to.
I don't think I can use:
$dbh->{Name}
because I call USE new_database and $dbh->{Name} only reports the database that I initially connected to.
Is there any trick or do I need to keep track of the database name?
Try just executing the query
select DATABASE();
From what I could find, the DBH has access to the DSN that you initially connected with, but not after you made the change. (There's probably a better way to switch databases.)
$dbh->{Name} returns the db name from your db handle.
If you connected to another db after connected with your dbh, using mysql query "USE db_name", and you did not setup a new perl DBI db handle, of course, $dbh->{Name} will return the first you previously connected to... It's not spontaneic generation.
So to get the connected db name once the db handle is set up - for DBI mysql:

When you create a connection object it is for a certain database. In DBI's case anyway. I I don't believe doing the SQL USE database_name will affect your connection instance at all. Maybe there is a select_db (My DBI is rusty) function for the connection object or you'll have to create a new connection to the new database for the connection instance to properly report it.
FWIW - probably not much - DBD::Informix keeps track of the current database, which can change if you do operations such as CREATE DATABASE. The $dbh->{Name} attribute is specified by the DBI spec as the name used when the handle is established. Consequently, there is an Informix-specific attribute $dbh->{ix_DatabaseName} that provides the actual current database name. See: perldoc DBD::Informix.
You could consider requesting the maintainer(s) of DBD::MySQL add a similar attribute.
