Recovering admin ID and password for local installation of MySQL - mysql

I have MySQL installed locally on my Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) laptop.
I remember setting admin credentials but do not recall any details and was not able to locate my notes.
What can I do short of reinstalling the entire product?
I have found some links for restoring ROOT password but I'm not sure whether it's actually the same as admin password.
I'm not even sure what other information that I can provide could be helpful.

root is the MySQL system administrator.
Unless you've set up another user called admin, then you'll get what you want by resetting the root password. Else if you have another user called admin, after you reset your root password you can go about setting your admin password.

Google Cloud Platform - Compute Engine

I am running a docker image of ArangoDB in a VM, with the following environment variable set:
ARANGO_ROOT_PASSWORD. The instance runs fine, but I needed to change the root password, so I edited the VM and restarted, but the newly defined password is not working. It still refers to the old password. My boot disk is set to be "kept" when the instance is deleted. Could that be the source of the issue?
Go to your VM and find the external IP. Visit that IP in your browser on port number 8529.
Example: <-vm-external-ip-address->:<8529>
Enter root as the username and provide the current root password.
Select _system DB.
Select users on the left side panel.
click on root.
Click on change password.
Enter a new password and save.
Enabling "keep disk" does not create any issue to change root password.

Have a google compute cloud instance - what's my password?

So I have successfully setup a VM instance and can remote desktop in. I've been using it for a while now - but I am stumped as to what my password is. For instance - I need to unlock my default keyring but I don't know my password. Another example: I can't 'sudo' anything in terminal because I don't know my password. All the logins occur through my console/console SSL and remotedesktop.google.com so I simply don't know what my password on the machine itself is! Thoughts?

mysql 5.6 update password in users db

I Am working on installation of an application which uses MySql 5.6 Database and Tomcat as web server. After successful installation, there were two users found(admin & ascuser) by default. At first, i login(to GUI) with admin user and given (pre-defined) password. Then prompted to change admin password which went good. Later unfortunately i lost the admin password. Then i could not login to GUI. There is no option to reset admin password in GUI. There is no info provided about ascuser. I logged in to the mysql DB as root user. Passwords are hashed.
Here are few queries. Can anyone please suggest how to change/reset the password for admin user? I dont want to create any other users apart from the existing ones.
FYI:
Below are few outputs:
Mysql Query outputs
Users DB
I googled for password() in mysql to reset the admin password. But all in vain. Can any one Please provide some inputs ?
Unfortunately you cant crack the salted hashes .
But yes you can reset the user Password
check this thread How can I decrypt MySQL passwords

changed my mysql root password and now I cant log in

This may sound dumb. I was having a problem with mysql so I logged into the mysql admin panel from the xampp control panel. I noticed that 'root' did not have a password so I changed it to include a simple password. It is on my localhost but I thought this was a good thing to do anyway.
Here is the problem.... Now when I attempt to access the mysql admin page from the xampp control panel, I am prevented because the control panel does not supply a password.
Any ideas?

Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost' (using password :YES) joomla install on windows 7 with web platform installer

I was trying to install Joomla on my machine .. so i ran the microsoft web platform and choose joomla Mysql and other tools went well .. BUT joomla it self isn't installed giving the following error :
This product did not install successfully: the database 'my_site_db' could not be created
Access denied for user 'root'#'localhost' (using password :YES)
It asked me to enter a password for Joomla and the database in the last step of installation.
I think i had MySQL already installed.
UPDATE : I downloaded Joomla from the website and worked on it using XAMPP and the installed version from Joomla's website.
You obviously have MySQL installed, because this message comes from MySQL server.
Make sure that the password you provided is the password for MySQL's root user.
You shouldn't be using the root user for accessing a website. Root has access to everything.
Can you create a new user using phpMyAdmin or alternative? I'm not sure what tools come with the MS web platform, but you should create a user, with privileges to access the database and use that.
Check if you can login with the root user on the MySQL Server (with a tool,..) , if not then re-setup the MySQL Server again. I've had this problem too for an unknown reason.
Specify your windows user account as the root database password. That worked for me.
