SSRS: Using temp tables in the SSRS report query - mysql

I have an SSRS query that uses temp table and a select statement that returns output , when i try to modify the query and refresh the fields in the Dataset properties window i get following error
"Could not update the list of fields for the query.Verify that you cannot connect to Datasurce and that your query syntax is correct". I am able to connect to datasource and I was able t execute query in sql server management studio . I could see all the fields of report are appearing , but unable to refresh.
My question is can we use temp tables in report query (where Query Type : text) in Dataset properties Window ? Will it work
I was also able to build report successfully this means my fields are refreshed ?

I think the error you're seeing is because SSRS is trying to determine the shape of the query output without running the query, which means the temp table doesn't exist. You might try previewing the query in SSRS and then see if you can update the fields list.

MySQL + SSRS | Stored Procedure only returns one single row

I'm working on several reports for SSRS written in MySQL via ODBC Adapter. For some reason, Stored Procedures only return a single row of data instead of an expected set of data.
Below is the same stored procedure when ran on an SQL Editor:
And below is the stored procedure's execution result when SSRS tries to run it (both on Query Designer and Report Viewer):
I have also set parameters properly as far as i can tell:
so i wasn't able to find an exact answer as to why this happens on SSRS with MySQL via ODBC. What i was able to find was a workaround:
by executing the command as an Expression rather than as a raw query via the Query Editor:
Now the only caveat for this is that the DataSet Fields wouldn't be automatically generated, and that you have to plot them all manually. A good workaround for this is to first run a blank/null query with only the column names (i.e.: SELECT NULL 'column_name_1', NULL 'column_name_2') then later change the query source to Expression. The good thing about using expression is that you only need minor knowledge about how it works and it reduces the confusion with ODBC '?' Parameters.
Cheers!

How to pass parameters to Pentaho Report (.prpt) so that sql query can run dynamically to make report at runtime

I have a static Pentaho Report(.prpt) on my pentaho server.I am trying to find the way to pass paramater to my pentaho report and refresh(update) the report using pentaho scheduler.I am able to run the sql query each time the scheduler runs.
But I want to pass parameter(user data to be used in mysql query) dynamically so that I am able to generate user specific reports for all users using same prpt file on my server.
How can that be achieved? Can anyone explain with an example regarding the dynamic query scripting in Pentaho Report Designer as there is no material which can be found for the same.
I am using Pentaho Report Designer and Server(8.1).
You must first create a parameter on the report (under the Data Tab, choose Parameters and right-click to create a new parameter). Those parameters can be passed from the URL, or set via a selector/dropdown.
Then you can use the parameter by entering it into the query with a syntax such as shown below:
select * from sales where customer = '$(customerParam)'

SSRS report export error

I have a SSRS report which pulls data from a stored procedure. The report works perfectly fine on the web when im running it with different parameters. However, I get a duplicate row when im trying to export the ssrs report to excel.
The actual reason why the row was duplicating was because of the stored procedure. Instead of distincting the selected values it was picking up duplicates.
Select DISTINCT
There fore using a simple sql fixed it.

SSRS won't read my SQL query parameters

I'm trying to plot data to a shapefile in SSRS. I linked my SQL Server successfully and selected my Stored Procedure, but when I go to set my Spatial and Analytical Dataset Fields SSRS tells my
Procedure or function 'uspStoredProcedure' expects parameter '#eventId', which was not supplied.
I don't understand because I explicitly entered eventId on the page directly before this, ran the query and everything came up just as expected.

SSRS Dynamic data source is not working

I have a dynamic data source in my SSRS Report. It will get its server name from a parameter defined in the report. I defined my dynamic data source connection string as
="Data Source="+Parameters!HostServer.Value+";Initial Catalog=DBName"
When I am trying to define a data set using this data source, I am not able to extract the fields out of the query used in the data set. The error I am facing is that "Could not update a list of fields for the query. Verify that you can connect to the data source and the query syntax is correct..."
If I use the same query against my server in SSMS editor, I am getting expected output. And the parameter has already a default value which I suppose the report will use while testing connection.
If anyone know how to resolve this connectivity issue with dynamic data sources, please help.
You should create another temporarly datasource where you need to set connection to one of your databases. Then when you define dataset use that temporarly datasource in order to populate the available fields. Once the fields are created, you can change the connection back to your dynamic data source. After that delete temporarly datasource and it all should to work.
