I have (as far as I know) properly followed all of the instructions on xwiki.org, and I have also searched high and low for answers to my errors, but have unfortunately been unable to resolve them by myself.
I have downloaded XWiki in two different formats. The first is the .exe installer, and the second is the suggested .xar package, both for using on a Windows 8, 64 bit machine.
The first runs perfectly in "standalone" mode, but once the hibernate.cfg.xml file is changed to the preset MySQL Settings (which are accurate to my database), I get a very long HTTP 500 error. (This is after I added the MySQL Connection Java file, and created a MySQL database according to the instructions on xwiki.org) It seems that the primary issue is that it cannot find the com.mysql.jdbc.Driver along with the fact that I get an error later on the page saying that it cannot create a database connection pool.
The code pertaining to the error is this:
<!-- DBCP Connection Pooling configuration
-->
<property name="dbcp.defaultAutoCommit">false</property>
<property name="dbcp.maxActive">50</property>
<property name="dbcp.maxIdle">5</property>

<property name="dbcp.whenExhaustedAction">1</property>
<property name="dbcp.ps.whenExhaustedAction">1</property>
<property name="dbcp.ps.maxWait">120000</property>
<property name="dbcp.ps.maxIdle">20</property>
<property name="connection.provider_class">com.xpn.xwiki.store.DBCPConnectionProvider</property>
and this

<property name="connection.url">jdbc:mysql://localhost/xwiki</property>
<property name="connection.username">xwiki</property>
<property name="connection.password">xwiki</property>

<mapping resource="feeds.hbm.xml"/>
<mapping resource="activitystream.hbm.xml"/>
<mapping resource="instance.hbm.xml"/>
And the error itself looks like this:

Do I have to use the .xar installation version to properly connect to a database? I tried that way also, with Xampp and Tomcat. Tomcat installed fine and I can easily access it through localhost:(port). However, when I try to access my xwiki, I get a HTTP 404 error saying that the reference cannot be found, which is odd since it shows up with the other files in the deployment list included in Tomcat, and the Tomcat example file shown there (located in the same Directory) works fine...
I'm a bit concerned that even if I could get the XWiki to work properly through Tomcat, I would still get the first error that I mentioned later when I try to connect the MySQL database.
Side Note: I have suspicions that there may be Java file conflicts between those found in XWiki and those in Tomcat from other errors that I have seen while playing around and trying to make things work... but I could be wrong as I currently have very little knowledge of Java. I've seen several servlet errors and could not find class/file errors that according to a Forum that I found, are common errors belonging to the jasper.jar and the jsp-api.jar, both are found in Tomcat.
Regardless, I am open to trying installation options that do or do not involve Tomcat. If anyone has had success with installing XWiki on Windows with a MySQL database, your help would be much appreciated!
Looks like you are missing the mysql driver. Since you converted the default distribution to use mysql, you will need to download a mysql driver jar and deploy it to your 'webapps\xwiki\WEB-INF\lib' directory.
Regarding the second issue, there is probably no connection between the database driver error, the xar and the tomcat 404. The xar is simply a collection of pages used to import or export content and functionality, but doesn't usually handle low level stuff like database conectivity. The 404 in Tomcat is probably due to the fact that you accessed a invalid url. Could need more details on that one.
First regarding potential conflict with Tomcat, I can assure you this is not possible as Tomcat is what XWiki team use in production all the time.
Now for MySQL, the error is pretty clear and if you really put the MySQL connector then you did not put it in the right place. What version of it did you put and is it in #xwiki folder#/WEB-INF/lib/?
The XAR package is not a different way of installing XWiki, it's a package containing wiki pages that can be imported in XWiki when it's running. Perhaps you mean the WAR package?
This was resolved some months ago. I was missing some vital information in the set-up, but it works fine now.

I have an Apache Spark Cluster(2.2.0) in standalone mode. Till now was running using HDFS to store the parquet files. I'm using the Hive Metastore Service of Apache Hive 1.2 to access, using the Thriftserver, Spark over JDBC.
Now I want to use S3 Object Storage instead HDFS. I have added the following configuration to my hive-site.xml:

I have the hive metastore in a MySQL 5.7 database. I have added to the Hive lib folder the following jar files:
aws-java-sdk-1.7.4.jar
hadoop-aws-2.7.3.jar
I have deleted the old hive metastore schema on MySQL and then I start the metastore service with the following command: hive --service metastore & and I get the following error:

I think the error here it have something to do with some jar version incompatibility but I'm not able to find the correct versions.
Can someone help me here?
You absolutely cannot mix versions of the Hadoop-common, hadoop-aws, aws-s3-sdk and jackson versions from what everything expects, or you will see stack traces.
And its all open source, so if you D/L all the source JARs locally, your IDE will help you find what's causing the stack trace. This is what we all do. It's not magic, modern IDEs (intellij IDEA) even have special stack debugging.
This one is coming in because the value of fs.s3a.multipart.size set in hadoop-common's /core-default.xml resource is 100M, which came in with HADOOP-13680 and the range parsing handling numbers like "100M" instead of 104857600 . This stack trace says "Hadoop 2.8+ configuration"
You could try setting the property in your configs to that numeric value, but its a warning sign that versions of JARs are out of sync and you will probably only get a few lines further before something else breaks.
Fix: make sure that hadoop-common.jar and hadoop-aws.jar are in sync. It looks like you've got the jackson and aws ones lined up, though jackson is complex enough you can never take that for granted.
I'm trying to build an application using Play Framework 2.2 and Scala.
I'm not very acquainted to Java environments, so I don't know exactly what's going on.
To make it work with MySql, I should configure my conf/application.conf like this:
db.default.driver=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
db.default.url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/sakila"
db.default.user=root
db.default.password="mypass"
Everything seems right to me, but when I try to access it, I get this:
Cannot connect to database [default]
Why? These information are right! The database can be found at localhost:3306/sakila.
What am I doing wrong?
EDIT: Here is my stacktrace. It seems to be missing the mysql connector .jar file, or something like that. What should I do?

OK, I don't know what's going on.
I put this, and it started to work:
db.default.url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/world"
db.default.driver="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"
db.default.user="root"
db.default.pass="mypasswrd"
db.default.host="localhost"
Perhaps it needed a more detailed configuration, i just added the db.default.hostconfiguration, stringified everything with "" (I think this is not necessary, but whatever) and checked if mysql was listed in play dependencies listing. Since it was listed there (in fact it was the first entry), and the error didn't say it was a missing library, I just headed to Error when i try connect play with mysql 5.5 and fixed my configurations.
Thanks to everyone!
You need to have the MySQL JDBC driver jar in your dependencies. This page in the documentation shows how to add the derby driver to the dependencies. Substitute the derby coordinates with the MySQL ones.
I am not doing anything in code - I just created an eclipse connection and can't seem to be able to ping it. The connection properties :
The jar is where I say it is ($GLASSFISH_HOME\domains\domain1\lib\ext) but I am getting :

That zip is very likely the distribution zip of MySQL Connector/J, inside of that zip is the mysql-connector-java-5.1.27-bin.jar library with the driver. So you need to unzip it first and then add that jar-library instead of the zip.

If I used SQLite as my Connection Type it works but no data is returned when I goto explore it. So my question is how do I get MySQL working or get the data using SQLite?
Am I missing a library or a class?
I just came across the same issue while trying to query a MySQL Database from Pentaho.
Error connecting to database [Local MySQL DB] : org.pentaho.di.core.exception.KettleDatabaseException:
Error occured while trying to connect to the database
Exception while loading class
org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver
Expanding post by #user979331 the solution is:
Download the MySQL Java Connector / Driver that is compatible with your kettle version
Unzip the zip file (in my case it was mysql-connector-java-5.1.31.zip)
copy the .jar file (mysql-connector-java-5.1.31-bin.jar) and paste it in your Lib folder:
PC: C:\Program Files\pentaho\design-tools\data-integration\lib
Mac: /Applications/data-integration/lib
Restart Pentaho (Data Integration) and re-test the MySQL Connection.
Additional interesting replies from others that could also help:
think to download the good JDBC driver version, compatible with your
PDI version:
https://help.pentaho.com/Documentation/8.1/Setup/JDBC_Drivers_Reference#MY_SQL
take the zip version ("platform independant") to extract the jar file
take into lib folder
see also proper way to handle it proposed by Ryan Tuck
Missing driver file.
This error is really common for people just getting started with PDI.
Drivers go in \pentaho\design-tools\data-integration\libext\JDBC for PDI. If you are using other tools in the Pentaho suite, you may need to copy drivers to additional locations for those tools. For reference, here are the appropriate folders for some of the other design tools:
Aggregation Designer: \pentaho\design-tools\aggregation-designer\drivers
Metadata Editor: \pentaho\design-tools\metadata-editor\libext\JDBC
Report Designer: \pentaho\design-tools\report-designer\lib\jdbc
Schema Workbench: \pentaho\design-tools\schema-workbench\drivers
If this transformation or job will run on another box, such as a test or production server, don't forget to include copying the jar file and restarting PDI or the Data Integration Server in your deployment considerations.
Turns out I will missing a class called mysql-connector-java-5.1.2.jar, I added it this folder (C:\Program Files\pentaho\design-tools\data-integration\lib) and it worked with a MySQL connection and my data and tables appear.
You need to download mysql-connector-java-5.1.46.tar.gz, not the latest version. The Driver class that Pentaho uses is not included in mysql-connector-java-8.xx.yy versions.
In addition to the other answers here, here's how you can do it on Ubuntu (14.04):
sudo apt-get install libmysql-java
this will download mysql-connector-java-5.x.x.jar to /usr/share/java/, which i believe also automatically creates a symlink named mysql-connector-java.jar.
Then, create a symlink in /your/path/to/data-integration/lib/:
ln -s /usr/share/java/mysql-connector-java.jar /your/path/to/data-integration/lib/mysql-connector-java.jar
At the present time, there is a simple way to fix this problem:
Go to Tools → MarketPlace and search for "PDI MySQL Plugin"
Install it ( this will automatically install the missing driver here: data-integration\plugins\databases\pdi-mysql-plugin\lib )
Restart Pentaho
Done.
To be concise and precise download the compatible jdbc (.jar) file compatible with your MySql version and put it in lib folder.
For example for MySQL 8.0.2 download Connector/J 8.0.20
Above answers were helpful, but for unknown reasons they did not seem to work.
So if you have already installed MySql workbench on your system, instead of downloading the jar files and struggling with the correct version just go to
C:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL\Connector J 8.0
and copy mysql-connector-java-8.0.12 (does not matter what version it is) the jar file in that location and paste it to C:\Program Files\pentaho\design-tools\data-integration\lib
First of all you need to download Mysql connector which is compatible with your pentaho version.after that paste it to data-integration/lib folder and restart your pentaho.

I'm not that new to Java. I've done plenty of stuff with it before. But I'm migrating from PHP to Java Servlet/JSP (which I am new to) and I can't figure out this error to save my life. I installed Tomcat6 using Ubuntu 9.04's Synaptic Package Manager and it works like a charm. But when I put struts in my WEB-INF/lib directory and try to make a struts app, I get the below in the log file.
I used the struts-blank.war to start the project, so the web.xml is the same as provided in struts 2.1.8.1.
It appears that there is some issue with reading the struts-default.xml file.
Thanks in advance

I had a brain storm and figured this out myself. Although I don't think this is the most secure solution, but it works for my purposes and I'm not that concerned because it's a local dev server that only listens on the loopback interface (127.0.0.1).
Anyway, the solution is to add this to the bottom of /etc/tomcat6/policy.d/50local.policy
grant codeBase "file:${catalina.base}/webapps/-" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};
