Is there any way to suppress Mule's (3.3.1) catch-exception-strategy behavior of logging the entire stack trace for a specific instance of the component? I don't want to do it in the log4j configuration for the class because I want unexpected exceptions to log.
I want to be able to catch an exception in a flow and decide whether to log it (and scare the heck out of the operations team) or just take corrective action and move on. In the following, is there some way to configure the first instance to not log the stack trace?

I don't think so for Mule 3.3.1. It should be supported in Mule 3.4.0, can you try that?

This has been fixed in their latest 3.8.2 release just we need to uncheck the logException block which is true by default.

OK. This is fixed. To everyone also experiencing this... you must set the Spring Profile "pulse.authentication.default" or it will not load the AuthenticationManager Bean.
The overall issue is with the RowStore's documentation, which says this is OPTIONAL, when in fact it is required.

It says at Step 4.) that configuring security is Optional when in fact you have to pass a Spring Profile. Also, again in the section "Authenticating Pulse Users", it says this is not a requirement.
To fix the issue I had to pass the Spring Profile "pulse.authentication.default" to activate the Bean in spring-security.xml and deploy pulse.war properly.
A better way for SnappyData pulse.war to do this in the future might be to use "!pulse.authentication.custom", which would always load the default AuthenticationManager bean as long as a custom one was not configured.
Example change for future to make it truly optional:

I want to catch the exceptions thrown from item reader (e.g. reader not open , incorrect token exceptions etc) and handle it. Currently spring batch is throwing them as fatal exceptons and come out of the step.
Please let me know if there is any way to do it?
I faced the same issue whereby I wanted to catch the
org.springframework.batch.item.file.FlatFileParseException
thrown by the FlatFileItemReader and perform some custom handling & logging. Did some research and almost reached the conclusion that I might have to write a custom reader instead of the default reader I was currently using, until I stumbled upon a gem of a section in the Spring Batch documentation: http://docs.spring.io/spring-batch/reference/html/configureStep.html#interceptingStepExecution
You can write a custom implementation of the ItemReadListener<T> interface and over-ride the onReadError(Exception ex) method and then register this listener class in the corresponding step. As such, this method will then be called when the reader encounters an exception while reading from the file. The exception reference will be passed to the method as well using which you can do as you please like logging etc.
Similarly, writing a #OnReadError annotated method is also an alternative if you don't want to implement the ItemReadListener interface separately.
On a different note, if your whole purpose is to skip such exceptions that might occur while reading, you can try adding following to the chunk configuration in the XML:

I have a problem in catching the exceptions in my spring integration application.
Flow of operations in my application.
Http:inbound gateway which receives the request (error-channel defined to my custom error channel)
Service Activator for basic validations (Exceptions which are thrown from here are handled by error-channel defined on the GW)
splitter
Aggregator
Exceptions on my splitter or Aggregator are not handled by my error channel. why?
Steps taken:
I added a chain and included a header enricher and specified an error channel just before the splitter.
After this, any exception on my splitter is handled by my error channel mentioned in the header enricher.

Whenever there is an exception in my code, it retries and gets executed more than one time. why?
I have a "errorChannel" defined which logs the exceptions. it doesnt work.
I know the thread is too old, but I was also facing a similar issue and found I declared error-channel in header-enricher but not provide 'overwrite="true"' as a parameter. And after providing 'overwrite="true"'it is working as needed. I am surprised why spring integration does not provide an overwrite=true by default.
Let us know this is what solution you did in your old code? So everyone can find out the solution for such a scenario.
Our application is JSF2 based and we are desiging a exception handling for that. I tried using JSF2 exception handling framework configured in faces-config.xml.
When I throw a null pointer from backing bean, which is referred in Facelets page, then it is coming to exception handling function as javax.el.PropertyNotFoundException and also it doesn't have any other stack trace about.
Is there any way to get the exact cause of the exception and the stack trace?
That will happen when the action method is called from inside a composite component. This is already been reported as JSF issue 1806 which is scheduled to be fixed for JSF 2.2.
As far now, there's no way to get the root cause in the exception handler, because it's completely swallowed. Your best bet is using a separate logger or, as a hacky workaround, to pass the exception as a request attribute yourself.
Enabling the Development mode usually gives better error information.
Add the following to your web.xml.

However you should turn this off for your production.
I am trying to figure out a clean way to intercept uncaught exceptions that occur in my application.
I have log4j configured for logging the normal application flow and caught exceptions, so that is taken care of. Right now, I have a class that takes all error-level messages and adds them to a queue to be emailed in batches.
Ideally, I'm hoping that there is a way I can go about intercepting the uncaught exceptions, so that I may pass them to the same 'email batch' queue, but if this is not posible, I'm certainly open to suggestion.
I'm familiar with LogInterceptors on JBoss, but this project is using Tomcat. Is there any way that I might go about this? Is there a LogInterceptor equivelant for Tomcat? Should I try to redirect the Tomcat logging to a custom appender? (If so - any hints on that?) Some other ideas?
I figured that this has to be a solved problem by now, so I am hoping to tap some collective wisdom. Thanks, everyone, in advance.
Per the J2EE 1.4 spec, uncaught exceptions within a servlet may be forwarded to an error page as defined in the deployment descriptor. When this happens, the page implementation will receive the original request and response objects, with the addition of a request attribute named javax.servlet.error.exception that contains the exception object.
That said, I have not actually done this with Tomcat, and most of the web applications that I've worked on forward to a generic error page at the webserver level.
Edit: just tried it out on my local server, after adding the following to my web.xml, and it works as advertised:

It's not Tomcat-specific, but you can set uncaught exception handlers on a per-thread basis.
Depending on the setup of your application, you could set this at the top of your method that handles a request. You might have to do it every time, as you may get a thread per request.
A good place to set it would be in some sort of front controller.
