housing construction on a (google) map - google-maps

For a new housing project, a complete area will be developed on a blank piece of land. We would like to create a nice interactive chart with all the different sub housing projects. Currently we have a static map available, but want to turn this into an interactive map.
Currently we have found zeemaps.com to add pointers to the map, highlight new building area's and add additional information. One thing is lagging, is the ability to create roads/parks in the map.
Are there any tools out there available where I can 'draw' the new to be developed area into a google-like map.

Another alternative is to create a set of custom map tiles that replace or overlay the standard map tiles for your development area, see
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/maptypes#CustomMapTypes
You might even be able to create custom streetview images to create a virtual drive though of the development and the inside of the buildings, see https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/streetview#CustomStreetView

Is Google Map Maker https://www.google.co.uk/mapmaker enabled for your area?
This would allow you to add all the roads, buildings parks in your development.
Note: You would need to check the terms of use to ensure that adding planned but not yet built developments was permitted, but I do see that you can set the construction status of a road to Planned so I assume it is OK.
You can also do similar editing with Open Street map https://www.openstreetmap.org

What platforms are available to create AR Map Directions similar to Live View Walking Directions in Google Maps?

I had an idea to hide gifts for different occasions (Christmas, Birthday, Anniversary, etc) around the house, and create an app that will act as a "locator". Preferably, I would like to have AR directions similar to those shown in Google Maps' Live View Walking Directions. Are there any platforms that exist to help me map out my house and create these AR Markers showing which way to go?
My worst case scenario at the moment is to just place an AirTag with the gift and let them use my phone to find the item. This will require almost no prep time, but loses the "cool" factor. I don't mind spending a lot of time on this as it's something I would enjoy doing.
After some extended research, I was able to find that Google's ARCore Cloud Anchors are exactly what I am looking for. More information can be found here: https://developers.google.com/ar/develop/cloud-anchors
Cloud Anchors let you map a location, place anchors, and attach virtual content to these anchors. These are great for private locations and events where you can show up ahead of time, map the location, and place content.

Using old photos as a basis for streetview google maps

I've recently picked up some old photos of my city, and I was wondering if it is possible to use Google earth/maps to recreate the parts of the city that my photos show.
Most pictures are in street view, so it would be really great to have the old photos as a basis of a street view google map. Some are aireal photos so the "ordinary" map view is also interesting.
Is it possible? What's my first step?
Check out the docs on how to create a custom streetview panorama here:
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/streetview#CustomStreetView
There's also an example of a custom "street view" in the docs, using the reception area of Google's Sydney office here:
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/streetview-custom-simple
That example only uses a single source image:
It looks like the hardest part will be creating either the "stitched" panorama image, or the individual tiles. Unfortunately Google leaves that to the reader, but there is a link to Wikipedia with some panorama tools that may help:

Custom Polygons / User Editable Shapes

Currently, on a web application I am working on, one of our clients asked for a feature I am not quite sure how to implement. We have a Google Map on the main page and our client wants to be able to draw on that map for presentations. I have seen two examples of what our client wants. The first example is at http://www.scribblemaps.com/ where I can draw lines, shapes, and in the Pro version "block arrows" which is what our client is asking for. However, this application only allows you to create the map on their site and then save it as a JPEG. Our client wants to do this within our application. Scribble Maps accomplishes this by using Adobe Flash and I'm guessing they place a Google Map in the background which I am not sure would be the best route for us.
I also found this blog http://googlegeodevelopers.blogspot.com/2011/11/make-your-map-interactive-with-shape.html describing User Editable Shapes. On this example I am able to create shapes and Adjust the size post creation. I was wondering if it were possible to create a custom polygon like a block arrow as another button on the map where the user could add that shape to the map and edit the size? I realize the user could use the custom polygon button but I know our client won't want to draw their own arrow each time.
* EDIT *
So that I am clear I am not asking anyone to write any code for me but point in the direction of information. I want to know if it is possible to pre-create polygon shapes like "block arrows" so that our client can click and drag to draw this arrow on the map like circles or rectangles using just the Google Maps API.
I had vary similar tasks to perform in my project.
You can let them draw shapes on the map. In my project I have let he user draw there shape by clicking on map and adding a marker on each click and when he clicks on the existing marker all the makers form a closed polygon. Then you can save it to database. As far as that editing part you mentioned above, you can set editable property of polygon to true to let them play with polygon.
Hope this helps you in your project.
Happy Coding !! Good Luck
Maybe a late answer but I think this one would be useful for you.

JavaME LWUIT: is there appropriate map lib?

I am developing JavaME LWUIT application which needs to display some data on map.
And I'd like to use Google Maps for this.
I thought about the requirements to the maps and their user interface. They are
listed below:
Pannable map. It should be possible to scroll the map using the touch interface or navigation arrow buttions which are displayed on the map.
Zoomable map. At the best, there should be appropriate +/- buttons displayed on the map.
Search location by address and move to it (menu command).
Remember the last visited location.
Marker for the current location.
Markers with customable icon and text which is displayed when select the marker (click on it or select somehow).
I spent some time searching for appropriate Map Library for JavaME/LWUIT.
I expected to find a free library and map service (ha-ha).
See my results below:
MIDMaps library. URL: http://www.jappit.com/blog/midmaps-google-maps-java-me-library/
That library uses the Google Static Map Service. Not bad... but it needs a lot further improvements...
I found the follwoing issues with that library:
Markers: impossible to customize marker's icon and text. Displaying the marker's text on click/selection is not supported.
Map Panning: no UI controls for this (arrow buttons). Doing panning with menu commands is not a user-friendly.
Map Zooming: no UI controls for this (+/- buttons). Not so important...
License: not permitted to use in a mobile app if not a Google Premier User. Not a problem...
Nokia Maps API for JavaME. URL: http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Maps/Maps_API_for_Java_ME/
Did not try. But looks like that lib fulfills all my requirements.
I am not sure about the following things:
Quality of the maps.
How much does it cost? I mean the cost of using the map service.
Nutiteq lib which uses OpenStreetMap service. URL: http://www.nutiteq.com/map-api
Not free the lib, but the map service.
Guidebee Map API. URL: http://www.guidebee.biz/
It's not free.
Now it's a time for me to ask questions. What should I do? Are there any advices?
Maybe I missed some possibilities or lib/services?
Thank you for your help!
See the Makeover demo in SVN (I updated it to use Google maps instead of Yahoo maps API which was killed off). The GoogleService API should be available in the SVN history it was (deleted because of licensing nonsense) within the IO services directory and it includes local search etc.
Terrence has a a demo that includes allot of interesting features including a browseable map.
You can also look at Waze although I haven't checked it myself, I saw people using open street map and AFAIK there is an open source mapping application based on that (although the license might not be appropriate for you but it might still be useful as a learning aid).
After some additional investigations I decided to use Nokia Maps. And now I have a working application which displays interactive map with my data markers on it and also my current location.
I chose Nokia Maps API because it provided real dynamic maps (panning, zooming, tiling) and fulfilled all my requirements, except "Remember the last visited location" (can be implemented on my own).
I met the following problems:
Using the maps from LWUIT, not from an ordinary MIDP application. I used the approach shown here Nutiteq SDK with LWUIT and also implemented my own MapWidget class for LWUIT.
Displaying additional info on marker click. There is no support for this in the lib. I had to implement it on my own. Details are here JavaME Nokia Maps API: how to display additional info on marker click
Additional info related to the choosing proper map library can be found here Discussion on Nokia Forum

Is there a Pay or Open Source World Map web widget that is larger than 440x220 and allows the water to be black?

For a project I just completed, I needed to show the winning selection of a poll in each country. Ultimately we used Google Charts API, because the other Google World Map products did not allow the color of the water to be customized. In this project the water needs be black so it blends with the web page it's on. The only problem with the Charts API version is that it's max size is 440x220.
I've been searching the internet for a while and I've been unable to find a better, larger more customizable World Map product.
Is there a larger than 440x220 World Map product, for pay or open source, that allows me to set the color of the water so that it blends seamlessly with the web page it's on?
The OpenStreetMap project has both web and application map producers, and you have no restriction on the size of the display map nor on the styline. Check out their wiki to get you started.
If you like the offerings by Google in general, have you seen the option for a maps visualization using Fusion Tables? Also, there is a May blog posting describing using Fusion Tables with dynamic styling that could be relevant.
I wrote a tool to create SVG maps : Make a clickable map which also has a world map
that you can customize to your liking: Create a world map using Makeaclickablemap
Hope this will help you or any other folks who are after a customizable world map!
