We are currently trying to set up routes in such a way that the returned content-type can be set using a route parameter. The routing is all working properly now, but there is one problem. If one requests html, then the normal view script is rendered. The data we provide to this script can be anything from a string to a collection of objects, and the view script decides what to show to the user.
If however JSON response is requested, then we just provide the data returned from our controller as JSON. However, some data should not be made publicly available to the user, and hence some filtering is required. Is there any possibility to use JSON view scripts (as in ZF1 with context-switch) in order to support such filtering? Or maybe another method?
There is no such thing as a JSON script which lets you decide what to render and what not. You have to provide the proper data in the view model such that only the data is given that is eligible to be displayed.
I have been thinking about a hook in the JSON renderer so you can filter the view model's data based on the context of the request, but such thing does not exist yet. Unfortunately, you have to select the data in your controller or model.

In this https://developer.gooddata.com/article/data-modeling-api there is a logical data model and its corresponding JSON. However, I can't seem to find out how to extract JSON from a logical data model via the REST API. Is there a way to do this other than using the single load interface (which would be very inefficient)?
For the record, my end goal is to make a tool that extracts that JSON (which would be in dev), then post that to the ldm manager2, and then apply the suggested changes through the returned MaQL to production. Any help is greatly appreciated
Currently this works only for Getting or Updating the entire Project. Anyway you can GET all model definition by simple API call. See the documentation:

There is a GET request which is asynchronous. You can build some logic on the top of that on your end. You can get all models, store per datasets information, but at the end you need to POST the "final version" and all updates will be applied.

I'm getting confused on a few things in regards to wcf rest.
If you call a login method, should I use a POST or GET? After implementing a POST, I started to find various articles saying you should only use post to update data, and get for retrieving data. Which is the most appropriate method?
If I had to change the Login method from a Post to a Get, how would I call this?
http://....myservice.svc/login/{username}/{passpord} or is there another way to call this?
Note that in my post method, I'm passing and returning data in json format.
I need to create a search function that requires to pass various parameters i.e. list, string, list, etc... I assume in this instance I would have to define GET method, but again how to I pass these list of objects? Convert them to json first and pass them as parameters?

Ok, I guess I'll answer my own question based on further finding when researching it and remember that my answer is based on using JSON as parameters. I'm not sure how it would behave if xml was used as I did not try it.
It appears to make more sense to use POST when logging in as you do not want to display the information you are posting via a url. You could encrypt the data and pass it in the url using a GET method... Again I could be wrong, but that's how I interpreted the various articles I read.
Again, in this instance, it appears POST is the best solution if a) you require a large amount of data to be passed to your url and b) if you do not want to show this data to the user. If your query only requires simple parameters (i.e. userid, type, etc...) and you don't mind showing this info, you can use the GET method.
If you require to pass multiple parameters to a function, you should instead pass a single parameter. This parameter should be a single object. This object should be made of all the parameters you wanted to use in the first place, this way, when using the POST method, this object can easily be converted to JSON and it will handle passing multiple parameters through a single object and it will handle numeric, string, list<>, array<>, etc... very nicely.
I'm new to AngularJS and am trying to build myself a simple little app. I have JSON data for the app being fetched with $resource, and this data should be the same across multiple views/routes. However, when I go to a new route, the JSON data (stored as $scope.data) is no longer available to the new view. What can I do to pass this data to the new view and not require another fetch? (The tutorial phone-catalog app re-fetches this data every time from what I can tell.)
From what I understand, $rootScope can do this but it seems to be generally frowned upon. I apologize if this doesn't make much sense; I'm very much diving in the deep end here.
Use a service to store the data. Inject that service into each controller that needs access to this data. Each time a controller is created and executes (because you switch to another view/route), it can ask the service for the data. If the service doesn't yet have the data, it can make a request to the server and return a promise to the controller (see below for how to do that). If the service has the data, it can return it to the controller immediately.

Note that services are singletons, unlike controllers.
Another variation: when the service is created, it can go fetch the data itself, and then store it for later use. Controllers can than $watch properties or functions on the service. For an example of this approach see How do I store a current user context in Angular?
I am trying to build my application's admin UI using sling's userManager REST interface, but I would like to customize the json rendering. For example, I would like the response of "Get group" to include the members only if the requestor is a member.
I started by adding libs/sling/group/json.esp but I don't understand how I can get hold of the default response and customize it. Even if I had to query and form the json from scratch, where can I find information about APIs available to get this data from JCR/Sling?
I found that I could use ResourceTraversor to dump the resource object in json form but using new Packages.org.apache.sling.servlets.get.impl.helpers.ResourceTraversor(-1, 10000, resource, true) in the esp throws up an error
There are a few things to note here.
First, you should avoid putting your code under the libs directory. Your app code should live under the apps directory. When attempting to resolve a servlet for a URI, Sling will check apps before it checks libs so if you need to completely override functionality delivered with Sling, you would place your code in apps.
Second, what is (probably, depending on how you have things setup) happening when you request http://localhost:8080/system/userManager/group/administrators.tidy.1.json is the request is being handled by Sling's default GET servlet, because it finds no other script or servlet which is applicable. For research purposes it might be worth looking at the code for the default get servlet, org.apache.sling.servlets.get.impl.DefaultGetServlet, to see what it's using to render JSON. If you need to handle the rendering of a user group in a manner different than what the default GET servlet is doing, then you would need to create a servlet which is listening for requests for resources of type sling/group. It would probably be ideal to create a servlet for this purpose and register it with OSGI. http://sling.apache.org/site/servlets.html provides the various properties you would need to set to ensure the servlet resolver finds your servlet. Your servlet then would handle the request and as such would have direct and easy access to the requested resource.
Third, the particular need you specified is that you do not want the group members to render unless the requesting user is a member of the group requested. This is more of an access control issue than a rendering issue. Sling and Jackrabbit, out of the box, make as few assumptions as possible concerning how you might want your application to be setup. That being the case, you need to establish the access controls that are applicable for your particular use case. The wiki post on Access Control in the Jackrabbit wiki ( http://wiki.apache.org/jackrabbit/AccessControl ) goes into this to an extent.
Using directions from Paul Michelotti's answer, I researched further and found a suitable solution to my problem.
Sling accepts request filters (javax.servlet.Filter) through SCR annotations like the one below
#SlingFilter(scope = SlingFilterScope.REQUEST, order = Integer.MIN_VALUE)
Every request is passed down to the filter before it is processed by the servlet. Using the resourceType, I was able to distinguish requests to group.1.json and group/mygroup.1.json. Since the filter also has access to the current user, I was able to decide to deny the request if it did not abide by my security model and return a 404 status code.

Let's say I have a northwind database and I use ADO.NET Entity Data Model which I automatically generate from the tables in database. Then I add a new WCF data service that inherits from DataService. When I start the web application, that runs the service I can request data like this:

This will return all orders from order table in atom/xml format. The problem is I do not want XML. I want JSON. I think I tried all kinds of settings (web.config) and attributes in my application, but I still get XML. No matter what. I can only get JSON, when I use fiddler and change the request header to accept JSON.
I do not like the concept of content negotiation. I want always to return data in JSON format. How can I achieve that?
Keep in mind that I did not create any model objects, they are automatically created based on database tables and relationships.
Well - content negotiation comes with HTTP. In any case, you could intercept the incoming request and add/overwrite the Accept header to always specify the JSON. There's a sample how to support JSONP which uses a similar trick, I think you should be able to modify it to always return JSON as well. http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/DataServicesJSONP.
The behavior you criticize is defined by specification of OData protocol. OData defaults to Atom and client can control media type of the representation either by Accept HTTP header or by $format parameter in query string (but I'm not sure if WCF Data services already support this).
