I'm my own developer for my little discussion forum and commerce website. So far so good.
Now I want to create a complete/exact copy of my production site so I can do development work without putting the production site at risk. I registered a domain www.dev-foosite.com that I hope can become the copy of my site www.foosite.com
Here's the snag. I have a VPS hosting account which works great so far -- but I can't use the cpanel backup from the main site, as a restore to the dev site. My hosting company says that there is a username conflict and even if we change the username, then the mySQL databases will need to be renamed.
So before I get wrapped around the axle on this, how should I proceed? I'd rather not have to purchase another separate hosting account but if that's the only answer I guess I will.

Go to phpmyadmin and export the database. In cpanel, go and make a new database. Then in phpmyadmin. Import the database.
Now, download all of the files into a folder from the forum using an FTP client like Filezilla
Then upload the previously downloaded files to the dev site
Edit config.php with the new database and password and change the server settings in admin control panel in phpbb to your new webiste url.

I think this website will help you out: http://www.phpbb-seo.com/en/phpbb-forum/local-server-setup-xampp-t4965.html
It basically runs you through downloading and installing XAMPP so you can download your remote site so you can work on it locally. When you're ready to go live, just publish the changes.

I don't have much knowledge about servers or anything this all but have little base knowledge about HTML or LAN Networking.
As i mention in Title. I just want one simple web-page for entry our data, such as call time, location, description, caller and receiver and i know this all can do thru HTML base webpage design but what i want is share that web-page thru LAN (Not Online) for key-in 3-4 persons in different computer. What type of software (Application) i have to use and the setup.
I have a 5 PC Connected with LAN with main PC (normal windows 7 but if need can change as Server also) and i just want Web-Page or HTML Page all data store and share from the Main PC to others workers PC.
Thank You in Advance for your Amazing Answer :)
In order to achieve your goal you need to set up a server environment on your computer. The best way to do it worry free would be to use an already bundled server like XAMPP.
It's very easy to host website on xampp server by following those steps.
Install xampp in your computer/server
Place web pages in xampp servers htdocs folder
To make default path of the server edit configuration of xampp and
submit path of your web folder
Now start apache (and mysql if needed) and try to run localhost/yourwebdirectory
once run without error your server is running fine. You can also run it by using your network IP.
Now check firewall and allow port 80 (If you require database, setup port 3306 as well)
If you ever want to make it public, you can use a no-ip domain and point that to your IP Make sure the firewall allow public access.

Migrate Joomla 3 Site to new domain

I have built a Joomla site for a client on a development server. It soon needs migrating to the client's Live site, which will mean a URL change as well as a physical server change.
I'm new to Joomla, but having worked a lot on WordPress previously I know it's a piece of cake to migrate one WP site to another, especially with the dozen or so available plugins.
However, this doesn't appear to be so easy on Joomla. I have searched for the best practice to achieve this with Joomla 3 but cannot find what I need.
Does anyone have a suggestion for this?
There are in fact a two ways to achieve this and they are quite easy.
1. The first one is the manual way, that is:
Copy the files of your local joomla installation and upload them to
your server
Export your local database and import it on your server.
Edit the configuration.php file to your new server credentials -db
name, db user, db server etc.
2. The second one is through the akeeba backup component.
In this case you create a backup and then restore it on the remote
server. Detailed info
here.
After uploading your remote site you are advised to follow these
guidelines
to secure your installation.

I need help in accessing a SQL server that I use for my research. I have local admin permissions on the OS (Windows Server 2008). My installation of SQL Server 2008 is set up to use windows authentication only. Unfortunately, our IT person (who is in another city) changed our domain name during an upgrade of our network over the weekend. I am now unable to access our databases through SSMS. I was able to convince our IT support to give me local admin permissions on the server, but am not sure how to get back into my data and fix the log in accounts. How do I go about reconnecting to my databases and what do I need to modify to ensure I have access to my data in the event that something like this happens again?
I tried using runas to login using my old credentials, but got nowhere. I've had a look at this question:
SQL server 2008 domain change
But that seems to focus on what to do BEFORE the domain change. I didn't get any warning about it and now need to fix the problem post-hoc.
The easiest way is to start the instance in single user mode as described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd207004.aspx
After that just start SSMS with "Run as Administrator" locally and use windows authentication to connect. From there you can create a new login or rename the existing one.
After you recovered access restart the instance in normal mode.

MAMP Pro problems launching SQL Server after system clean [closed]

I've been building a Wordpress Multiuser site for the last two months. Everything was good:
Had a local configuration saved in MAMP using default ports (was FTP accessible) Which means I had to edit etc/host and point to site root on drive
Had it saved MAMP's folder structure
Could toggle between default ports and MAMP ports for other sites in development
After the cleaning, MAMP Pro would crash at firing up the SQL Server.
I was able to fix the crash by going into terminal and modifying a line. The last line had my IP address and null just after it. So once I added wordpress.mu, or localhost, the server would start.
But to no avail. I can't seem to recall the configuration after I've tampered with my MAMP settings.
I believe I set an alias and named one of the hosts as wordpress.mu.
I had MAMP pointing to a folder with a different title.
The alias was local host.
And (when testing the site), I would type: localhost.localdomain/sitetitle. This is no longer working.
Can someone point me to thorough instructions or shoot me a few tips on what I should check on? While it might be an easy fix (at least I'm hoping) it's gotten a bit over my head as I am just exhausted from researching possible solutions to problems I semi-understand.
Thanks in advance community, pals, and web scientists. I'd love to treat whomever helps me successfully to a starbucks card. :)
I'm not using the Pro version, so I may a little off base here, but I'd check the following..
Does the MAMP homepage work? (http://localhost:8888/MAMP/?language=English)
Do you need to edit Apache's config? (httpd.conf) You might not need to when using MAMP Pro.
Is MySQL failing to start because there's already an instance running (look for a process called mysqld in Activity Monitor)?
Do you have a hosts entry for localhost.localdomain pointing to 127.0.0.1?

SQL Replication, CE device [closed]

I have a Windows CE device that I'd like to replicate data to a SQL Server 2008 R2 database. I understand the basics of replication and I need to use MSDN's "Two-Server Topology". Where there is an IIS box and a separate SQL Server box.
I have replication and a publication set up on the SQL database. Also, on the IIS box I created a virtual directory and via UNC have the physical folder on the database box. So the virtual dir path on the IIS box looks something like "\databasebox\c$\Replications". I set up a user on both boxes and am able to test the connection successfully.
I'm able to browse to the virtual directory from the device via a path such as: "https://www.mydomain.com/Replications" and with directory browsing turned on I can see the sqlcesa35.dll.
The issue is adding the subscription. Using the Web Synchronization Wizard, I cannot complete the process. I get to the point where I'm configuring the existing virtual directory. Choose it and get an error "ConnWiz - The local path is not in the correct format". If I use the wizard to create a new virtual dir and get tot he point of adding the remote directory UNC it does not allow it.
I've tried mapped drives, not allowed. This has to be possible, its part of Microsoft's "Two-Server Topology".
How do I create a replication subscription on IIS box-1 where the virtual directory points to a folder on box-2?
The problem you are facing is related to IIS 7&8 support of Web Synchronization wizard. According to this MSDN article "The Configure Web Synchronization Wizard is not supported on IIS 7.0.". What you need is to do manual configuration of IIS for Web Synchronization. You can find the steps to do that here.
