Within Windows Phone 8 I have a solution whereby I am capturing a video and saving it to local storage using the new WPRT Windows.Storage APIs.
When I want to playback the video using a MediaElement control I appear to be stuck as it doesn't support playback from local storage (only isolated storage).
The code I am using is:

Yet when I run it I receive an exception "Stream must be of type IsolatedStorageFileStream".
I've also attempted to set the Source to a URI pointing to the file's location property, and following typical local storage URI convention - but this gets ignored.
Has anyone come across a solution to this?
Isolated Storage and Local Storage are the same location on the phone.
It looks like you need to use the Isolated Storage APIs rather than the new-fangled Windows Runtime ones in this case.

I've got a Windows Store app that's a WinRT Phone/Desktop app (i.e. not a UWP app), targeting Windows 8.1 and up.
It's been on the store for several years now, but recently it stopped being able to connect with various web APIs and websites (YouTube, as well as my own site) using HTTPS.
I have a WPF version of this app as well, and this happened on that app recently as well, and to fix it I used System.Net.ServicePointManager. Unfortunately, in my WinRT environment, System.Net doesn't include ServicePointManager. In my WPF app, I did this, and it worked just fine:

In doing some research around the internet, it seems that .NET 4.6 should include ServicePointManager, but I don't see any way to change (or even see) my version of .NET in the WinRT development environment.
I looked some more and found that a StreamSocket could be used to connect with TLS1.2... but that seems primarily designed to enable bluetooth communications, or communications to a web endpoint, but only by hostname... which is insufficient for me. I need to connect to an actual website, not just the base-level domain.
Trying this, I did the following:

I can include the code for ReadDataFromSocket() if necessary, but it seems to work, reading the data from the socket as expected when I point it at https://google.com. However, I can't seem to figure out how to point the socket at anything useful. The homepage of inadaydevelopment.com isn't what I want; I'm looking to consume a web API hosted on that server, but can't seem to find a way to do that.
Since the first parameter to the ConnectAsync() method is just HostName, the second parameter (remoteServiceName) must be the way to connect to the actual API or webpage I'm trying to connect to. According to the docs, that is The service name or TCP port number of the remote network destination... I haven't seen any example values for this parameter other than https and various numeric values, neither of which is going to get me to the API endpoint or webpage I'm trying to connect to.
So, with that super-long preamble out of the way, my question boils down to this:
Is there a way for me to use System.Net.ServicePointManager in my WinRT app like I do in my WPF app? If so, how?
If not, how can I use StreamSocket to connect to the exact web service or webpage I want to connect to, rather than just the top-level host?
If that's not possible, by what other means can I consume web content using TLS1.2?

Use Windows.Web.Http API instead of System.Net.Http API.
System.Net.Http does not support TLS1.2 but Windows.Web.Http does in WinRT apps.

I just ran into the same issue :) This happens when you call SetStreamSource from foreground application. See [https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/xaml/dn642090.aspx]. To play audio from a file, you need to send background audio player a message (see [How to pass an object to background project in Windows Phone?).

I'm developing a stand-alone C# application that uses CefSharp Chromium + Angular + UIRouter as the stack upon which the GUI will be relying on.
I hit it off by trying to make the above stack load the sample-code provided here:

For the sake of elegance the HTML + Javascript-libs of the GUI, get cobundled in a single resource file inside the .Net executable of the application.
This resource is then passed programmatically during application-init to the Chromium control (by means of .LoadHtml) to be loaded directly into the browser, aka the HTML is not loaded from a separate .html file residing in the hard-drive or on a remote HTTP server. If the HTML gets loaded from the later ("standard") venues then everything works flawlessly.
I noticed that when loading the HTML directly as a string, as described above, the url of the resulting static web page (aka window.location) is set to 'about:blank'. It appears that angular has some sort of pet peeve with such a url, especially when it comes to using routing:
First of all, the invocation of:

Error: [$rootScope:infdig] 10 $digest() iterations reached. Aborting!
the reason is that when 'window.location' is set to 'about:blank' then
$browser.url()
always returns
about:blank
while
$location.absUrl()
returns
about:blank#/home
causing $watch to fire non-stop.
Is there any proper way to handle this shortcoming of angular when its dealing with web pages loaded directly into the browser in the manner described here?
If there is no workaround for this issue then I'm afraid that I will have to resort to loading the HTML directly from a file in the hard drive, which apart from being slower (can't cache the string to memory for subsequent usages), it's also a noticable deviation from the goal of developing a stand-alone-exe. :(

By default Firefox allows loading of external files within html file that loaded from "file:///...". but Chrome does not. in CefSharp(Chrome) you can do it in this way:

Most browsers don't allow to do AJAX on the file-system. But Chromium can be tweaked to do so:

I was trying to recreate the simle Text to Speech example used on the MSDN website. However whenever the code came to create the instance of the SpeechSynthesizer class it failed with a Unauthorised Acception error when running on the WP8.1 emulator. I currently do not have an actual device to test on to see if this makes a difference.
My code was simply:

I know there was an issue with the SpeechSynthesizer in Windows 8.1, and I found solutions to this when looking to fix the problem, but found little about the problem with WP8.1 SpeechSynthesizer. Has anybody else came across this problem and found a fix?
You should add one DeviceCapability in Package.appxmanifest file:
In DeviceCapability Tab, check the microphone, because it will provides access to the microphone’s audio feed, which allows the app to record audio from connected microphones.

cpp has no IsolatedStorageSettings or IsolatedStorageFile.
so i simply using "FILE" and "fopen" to store a game data.
but when i reinstall or upgrade the apps using "Xapdeploy" or debug with vs.
the save data will lost.
so how can i mark it is as a IsolatedStorageFile.

You need to save data in the LocalFolder (new name for Isolated Storage) for it to be persisted.
There are Windows Runtime APIs you can use from C++/CX for this which are probably the best way to go (look for StorageFolder and StorageFile in particular), especially if you want to stay portable with Windows Store apps.
However if you want to use fopen the main issue is that this takes a char[], not wchar_t[] file name that is used by the rest of the platform. To get around this you will need...
