Is http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#internal-extension broken in Google? - google-profiles-api

When creating a Google Contact PhoneNumber with a Rel value of http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#internal-extension Google throws an InvalidEntryException. The other types work. Is this broken in Google?

I found a hit on that rel in the .net library from 2006 but nowhere else. Personally I use this list from Google: https://developers.google.com/gdata/docs/2.0/elements#gdPhoneNumber. On that page there is actually an example of how to set the extension (perhaps they deprecated that rel and the example seeks to accomodate that). Anyway, if possible you should do the same as the example in your implementation.

Why can't I add an HTML custom attribute to a visualforce page?

I have an control, to which I want to add a custom html attribute called, previousValue.
The Salesforce Developer's Guide assures me that I can do this by prefixing the attribute name with html-.
So I have an element that appears thus:. I also have the docType="html-5.0" attribute in my page control.
However, in Eclipse I get an 'unsupported attribute' error. I have upgraded to the latest force.com IDE; can any one tell me why this isn't working? What else do I need to do?

After much experimentation, the answer to this seems to be that the salesforce developer's guide is inaccurate and the 'hmtl-' prefix is not supported by the <apex:inputField> component. I can add it without a problem to an <apex:outputPanel> component. Don't understand why this should be so and the whole point to using these attributes is to locate data in a relevant place and avoid complex jquery selects to find the data relative to the location at which it is required.

HTML rel="up" attribute?

I'm using mobile template HTML files on a PHPBB forum.
I tested the html for errors at http://validator.w3.org/
The test results showed the following error
Line 24, Column 66: {navlinks.FORUM_NAME}
Bad value up for attribute rel on element a: The string up is not a registered keyword or absolute URL.
Not having heard back from the author and not finding much on Google search, I'm trying to understrand what rel="up" does, if anything constructive.

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) keeps a list of link relationships The latest version is from March 21 2013.
up: Refers to a parent document in a hierarchy of documents.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that this registry was long established, it was decided that HTML5 would not use this registry and would use a Wiki page to list the conforming link types instead.
Up, is listed in a rather insane section marked "dropped without prejudice", which nobody seems to know what to do with, or how to get those link types out of.
It's safe to drop it, but some browsers and browser plugins make use of it. For example, I use a Firefox plugin called "Link Widgets" like this to make use of the link type.

Using Google Analytics without Javascript?

Is it possible to use the Google Analytics code on a website which does not support javascript or any server side scripting? (For example a profile page on a website which allows to use only HTML).
I have found out that analytics code can be used without using the javascript by calling the tracking image directly and send some data with it. I also found a couple of links but they use server side code also.
Technically, yes, since all you need to do is request __utm.gif from Google with a reasonable query string attached. This blog post on Google Analytics without javascript or cookies gives a good overview of what the __utm.gif request looks like.
Google Analytics actually has a pretty standard php implementation, but I take it you want to do this without any dynamic language at all - just one static tracking pixel to register a count of pageviews?
There are a lot of reasons why GA is not going to work 100% (and may not work at all) without a dynamic language. Primarily, GA depends on javascript (or a server side language) to set a user's utm cookies, which keep track of info about the visitor's source, and which help associate pageviews from a single visit.
Since you may just want to track a count of hits to a single page, we may be able to do away with this, although I am not completely sure that GA will not just filter our hits automatically with some sort of junk filter.
But, all that said, if you want to try this, I'd place a 1x1 image on the page with the following source:

You'll need to adapt the source a little bit to fit the site you are tracking - see this LunaMetrics post for reference. At the very least, you'll need to change utmhn (hostname), utmr (referrer), utmp (current URI), and utmac (your GA account number).
Just point an image to the site with your account details, and you are good to go!

Validation error with skype toolbar

Morning!
I added the following line of code to disable the skype feature on phone numbers.

The problem is that it is causing the following error.
Line 6, Column 71: Bad value SKYPE_TOOLBAR for attribute name on element meta: Keyword skype_toolbar is not registered.
Syntax of metadata name:
A metadata name listed in the HTML specification or listed in the WHATWG wiki. You can register metadata names on the WHATWG wiki yourself.
Is there a work around for this? I need to ensure that the skype numbering doesn't take over the phone numbers but also validate at the same time.

You can submit a metadata registration to the WHATWG wiki as instructed, or you can ignore the error message. Neither of these has any effect on whether your page works as intended.
Use HTML 4.01 (which lacks the HTML 5 draft's bizarre limits on what constitutes valid meta data).

Search box microformat?

Is there any microformat/standard for implementing search form on the site?
(access keys, naming etc.)
Any good practices?
The only things I can think of are that searches should be GET requests, and that you may want to implement a RESTful API that allows developers to query JSON and XML results in addition to HTML
