so I wrote code in an air app that auths with google / youtube. The code itself is working as expected. The problem is that when I open the auth window using HTMLLoader, it uses the default browser of the machine (safari on mac, ie on win) rather than the default browser that the user uses. So existing sessions that the user has on their default browser are useless. I have added code to account for all scenarios, but I would like to think there is a way to use the users preferred browser and benefit from logged in sessions etc.
I found and tried the property navigateInSystemBrowser which didn't sound like it would help... and interestingly that made the browser stop working. The links in the browser window no longer worked.
Anyone know if this is possible? Am I missing something simple here?

I am building an app that requires the user to change a Chrome setting. It will be more convenient to send the user directly to chrome://settings instead of having them open it manually via the menu, but when I try and open it directly or through a hyperlink on a web page, it always goes to about:blank#blocked. I have tried this on Windows, MacOS, and ChromeOS (including through a link in a TextView in an Android app), but the result is the same. Is this possible, or is it completely blocked for security or some other purpose?
i'll save you the trouble and let you know its not possible, and yes you're right due to security reasons
For Chrome on my local machine chrome://settings/ works. Well surely not impossible but still not that easy maybe this helps

I am developing an app for iOS which includes a UIWebView which, among other this, contains a video (stored locally, in the same folder as some images which are being displayed correctly).
This works fine in my own iPad, but I have been given another one at work to install the app to and there it shows nothing more than the video controls. When I click on the play button nothing happens. The iPad is owned by the company so any security feature might be enabled.
I have researched quite a lot and I cannot find any reasons why the app may be working on one iPad and not on another one. I know it might be impossible to fix without having a passcode or something like that but I need to know at least which configuration might be the one that is making the app not to work.
Using WKWebView fixed it. UIWebView should not be used any longer unless it is specifically needed.
From Apple documentation:
In apps that run in iOS 8 and later, use the WKWebView class instead of using UIWebView. Additionally, consider setting the WKPreferences property javaScriptEnabled to false if you render files that are not supposed to run JavaScript.
When Chrome stops WebGL and gives you the following error (in a yellow banner on top of the screen): "Rats! WebGL hit a snag...", and reloading does not work (WebGL is still not re-enabled), is it possible to re-enable WebGL without restarting Chrome?
Context:
Chrome disables WebGL probably because it requires too many resources: I ask it to display 400,000 billboards on Cesium, for those who know what this is.
I know how I could reduce the resources my app asks for, but actually I am exploring its limits for testing purposes. So I am going to make Chrome disable WebGL a lot of times, and I do not want to restart it everytime it disables WebGL.
My configuration:
Chrome 35.0.1916.114 m
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Solutions explored:
I already tried to open a new Chrome window, it does not work. For the moment all I can do is close all Chrome windows and restart it.
I already tried to put --ignore-gpu-blacklist in the Chrome shortcut (even if I understood this is for Windows XP, right?).
Hope I was clear enough.
Thank you for your help.
I was having the same problem and I just found a solution. It sounds like this didn't work back when this question was posted but, it works now!
Refreshing the page doesn't work. If you clicked a link from a different tab to open the tab the crashed, clicking that link again doesn't work. You have to open a new tab and paste in the URL of the page that you want to reload.
I'm guessing this is due to chrome threading... by opening a brand new tab, you create a new thread instead of using the existing one.
In your application you should properly handle webglcontextlost and webglcontextrestored events. In particular, you should prevent default event action in webglcontextlost handler thus telling the browser that you can restore proper functioning of your app when webglcontextrestored will be fired.
Let's say I have a specific URL link and my default browser is Safari. Is there anyway for that URL to be opened using Chrome instead of the default browser by passing some parameter in the URL or any other way? Note that I do NOT want to change the default browser to Chrome.
The general way to solve this problem is to ask, "How can I launch Chrome with a specific URL?" Trying this on my machine, the command line
chrome http://stackoverflow.com
does it. So, you just need to:
Locate chrome.exe on the user's machine
Launch Chrome with a command line parameter of the URL you want to load
UPDATE: Upon rereading your question, I see that the user is browsing in Safari and wants to click on a link in Safari and open Chrome. No, there isn't any way to do this just by changing the HTML. My above answer would apply to a desktop program that wants to launch Chrome with a specific URL.
you can not pass an url to be launched with a specific browser.
For that you would need access to the machine and start the specific browser yourself with the url as a parameter.
If you are just building a website you can not control this, but you could embedded some javascript telling the user that this site will only work if they are using chrome...
I'm a bit late to this one but Choosy probably does exactly what you're looking for (Mac-only I believe): http://www.choosyosx.com.
Found this gem and it does essentially this task by creating a Site Specific Browser.
It is a little different but it accomplishes the same goal!

I'm writing an offline app for mobile Safari.
I have just gotten to the point where it will create the app icon on the home screen and function offline.
Now I want to update the HTML in my app, but it refuses to refresh.
I've trIed the refresh button, the "clear cache" settings option, I have even taken down the server but safari still shows the page.
Help!
You need to modify the cache manifest. You can just add a comment line to the manifest. When you do, the browser will redownload the whole app.
