I have a list of values(deviceID) and I need to make an MySQL Query to update a column value, I can do the query in the following way
UPDATE Clients.Devices
SET assignedUserID='Jhon'
WHERE accountID='Delivery1' AND
(deviceID='1234' OR deviceID='1235' OR deviceID='1236')
That's is a simple example but some accountID have more than 500 devicesID so I'm looking for a shorter SQL statement
So, There's any way to pass the list of deviceID's to the SQL server?
Something like
UPDATE Clients.Devices
SET assignedUserID='Jhon'
WHERE accountID='Delivery1' AND
(deviceID=('1234','1235','1236))

if the datatype of deviceID is numberic, single quotes are not required.
maybe IN for multiple values not =

or if the ID are in sequence use BETWEEN

I am trying to update mysql table MYTABLE using two value. One is STAR column which should be incremented by one on each query, and the second one is COMMENT column which should be concatenated with existing one on each time and separated by comma.
Below is the command I used, but not working.
$query = "update MYTABLE set STAR=STAR+1,COMMENT= CONCAT(COMMENT, ','.$comment) where ID='$id'";
$query = "update MYTABLE set STAR=STAR+1,COMMENT = CONCAT(COMMENT, ',', '$comment') where ID=$id";
where ID='$id'
is incorrect because $id might be a number, so, delete the "'".
Have you escaped the $comment variable ?
Otherwise you may use prepared statements with PDO :)

you should but string in '' and update your query, it has error syntax :
$query = "update MYTABLE set STAR=STAR+1,COMMENT= CONCAT(COMMENT, '$comment') where ID='$id'";
To make it more secure, just use following code...
$query = "update MYTABLE
set `STAR` = `STAR`+1,
`COMMENT`= CONCAT(COMMENT, '$comment')
where `ID`='$id'";

If you have mix of strings along with the image url then you can use replace
update HotelList
set HotelImages = replace(HotelImages,'image.metglobal.com','bookingassist.ro');

I am trying to understand how to UPDATE multiple rows with different values and I just don't get it. The solution is everywhere but to me it looks difficult to understand.

I don't understand your date format. Dates should be stored in the database using native date and time types.
MySQL allows a more readable way to combine multiple updates into a single query. This seems to better fit the scenario you describe, is much easier to read, and avoids those difficult-to-untangle multiple conditions.
INSERT INTO table_users (cod_user, date, user_rol, cod_office)
VALUES
('622057', '12082014', 'student', '17389551'),
('2913659', '12082014', 'assistant','17389551'),
('6160230', '12082014', 'admin', '17389551')
ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE
cod_user=VALUES(cod_user), date=VALUES(date)
This assumes that the user_rol, cod_office combination is a primary key. If only one of these is the primary key, then add the other field to the UPDATE list.
If neither of them is a primary key (that seems unlikely) then this approach will always create new records - probably not what is wanted.
However, this approach makes prepared statements easier to build and more concise.

In case the update has to be done with non-unique keys, 4 queries will be need
NOTE: This is not transaction-safe
This can be done using a temp table.
Step 1: Create a temp table keys and the columns you want to update

In php, you use multi_query method of mysqli instance.

I want my the id field in my table to be a bit more " random" then consecutive numbers.
Is there a way to insert something into the id field, like a +9, which will tell the db to take the current auto_increment value and add 9 to it?
Though this is generally used to solve replication issues, you can set an increment value for auto_increment:
auto_increment_increment
Since that is both a session and a global setting, you could simply set the session variable just prior to the insert.
Besides that, you can manually do it by getting the current value with MAX() then add any number you want and insert that value. MySQL will let you know if you try to insert a duplicate value.
You have a design flaw. Leave the auto increment alone and shuffle your query result (when you fetch your data)
As far as i know, it's not possible to 'shuffle' your current IDs. If you wanted though, you could pursue non-linear IDs in the future.
The following is written in PDO, there are mysqli equivalents.

Edit : If the above trigger doesn't work try to update AUTO_INCREMENT value directly into the system's schema. But as noted by Eric, your design seems to be flawed. I don't see the point of having an auto-increment here.

Edit 3 : As pointed out by Jack Williams, Rand() produces a float value between 0 and 1.
So instead, to produce an integer, we need to use a floor function to transform the 'random' float into an integer.
SET NEW.idColumnName =aTmpValueHolder + FLOOR(a + RAND() * (b - a));
where a and b are the range of the random number.
I have a table with 27 varchar fields. I want to make all fields lowercase, but i want to do it in one short mysql call.
This does a single field:
UPDATE table
SET field = LOWER(field)
How do I do the equivalent of this (which doesn't work):
UPDATE table
SET * = LOWER(*)
You can't do it with your creative attempt SET * = LOWER(*) etc.
You can however do it like this:
UPDATE table SET
column1 = LOWER(column1),
column2 = LOWER(column2),
-- etc, listing all text type columns
columnN = LOWER(columnN);
The reason there's no "shortcut" is probably because this pattern is so infrequently needed.
The consensus is that this cannot be done in a single mysql query.
