How to fetch MYSQL data as hyperlink? - mysql

On my site, people can link to topics with buttons I made. Those buttons are putting out a (look: http://....) or (look: (link without http://) on the textarea and when they submit it, the hyperlink shows in their post. That is very nice, but if I fetch this data to show them their last posts, I don't get the hyperlink, but just the plain text. So (look: http://....) does not lead to a link...
I have seen in phpmyadmin that it is stored as plain text, so I can understand that, but how can I make those things hyperlinks and the rest of the text (the no-links) just plain?

Try using htmlentities to convert those hyperlinks before saving them in your database. You can then use html_entity_decode when getting the data from the database.

Please take into account the aforementioned comments about security issues. You have to sanitize data the user inputed data before you further process the data.
To answer your question. Store the links in a separate column of your table. Then fletch your links to the user via PHP - I guess you are using MySQL in combination with PHP - like you do with the posts. If you want to create a link you need to use the anchor HTML tag. E.g. Name link.

How to send text area data with formatting to a database and retrieve it the same way

I am currently working on a project that has similar functionalities like Google Keep. For the To-Do functionality, the user will input his data in a list, preferably in a text area. I am not understanding in what way i should store the list in the database, so that when he tries to GET the data, it can be displayed with the same formatting. I will be using MongoDB, Node.JS and React.
You can take the user entered list (or any rich-text) store it in mongodb as HTML.
Check this article for more details about how to do it: Link
This should give you the flexibility to add meta-information about making the text bold, italic etc.
This is easy and worked for me, give the div that's displaying the To-Dos a className eg todos
Then in index.css, insert this
.todos{
white-space: pre-wrap;
}

What does a form tag do behind the scene

If I want to send data back to the server from user input I know I need to use the form tag.
But why do I need the form tag, what does a form tag do behind the scenes?
I've only been in web development for less than a year, so please forgive me if my question is beginner question.
Edit: I know a form is used to denote a part of the page that is interactive and data between the from tags will be sent back to the server.
So, is the tag, just a tag, is there another piece of technology that takes the data from the page and returns the data to the server?
Edit 2: From comments and more specific web searches, I found out that the form tag is just that. A tag. It defines something on a page and does not do anything. All is okay now.
The form tag validates and with html 5 it means it doesn't call the server immediately. It can do a quick check before it attempts to post. E.g. does the email box look like an email address.
The advantage of this is it reduces costs as you're not unnecessarily calling the server. When the form thinks it looks good it will send the info to the back end.
Get and post messages are sent either getting information (reading) or it might be posting (writing).
I think that's what you're after.

Can Go capture a click event in an HTML document it is serving?

I am writing a program for managing an inventory. It serves up html based on records from a postresql database, or writes to the database using html forms.
Different functions (adding records, searching, etc.) are accessible using <a></a> tags or form submits, which in turn call functions using http.HandleFunc(), functions then generate queries, parse results and render these to html templates.
The search function renders query results to an html table. To keep the search results page ideally usable and uncluttered I intent to provide only the most relevant information there. However, since there are many more details stored in the database, I need a way to access that information too. In order to do that I wanted to have each table row clickable, displaying the details of the selected record in a status area at the bottom or side of the page for instance.
I could try to follow the pattern that works for running the other functions, that is use <a></a> tags and http.HandleFunc() to render new content but this isn't exactly what I want for a couple of reasons.
First: There should be no need to navigate away from the search result page to view the additional details; there are not so many details that a single record's full data should not be able to be rendered on the same page as the search results.
Second: I want the whole row clickable, not merely the text within a table cell, which is what the <a></a> tags get me.
Using the id returned from the database in an attribute, as in <div id="search-result-row-id-{{.ID}}"></div> I am able to work with individual records but I have yet to find a way to then capture a click in Go.
Before I run off and write this in javascript, does anyone know of a way to do this strictly in Go? I am not particularly adverse to using the tried-and-true js methods but I am curious to see if it could be done without it.
does anyone know of a way to do this strictly in Go?
As others have indicated in the comments, no, Go cannot capture the event in the browser.
For that you will need to use some JavaScript to send to the server (where Go runs) the web request for more information.
You could also push all the required information to the browser when you first serve the page and hide/show it based on CSS/JavaScript event but again, that's just regular web development and nothing to do with Go.

URLENCODE Variable in Salesforce Vertical Response Email

This is a rather simple question, but I cannot find documentation about it from Salesforce.
I am setting up an HTML Newsletter from Salesforce Vertical Response, and I need to put a link in the body of the email that goes to another site which takes the user's email address as a query string. I am doing this so that when the user clicks the link from the HTML email, they will automatically be signed up for a different blog mailing list.
The link will look like this www.mywebsite.com/blog/subscribe?email=your_email#email.com.
I can easily accomplish this by using the {EMAIL_ADDRESS} variable, such that the link looks like this:
Subsribe
This workds, but when the user gets the email and clicks the link, the '#' symbol gets stripped from the URL. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get around this. I saw some documentation on the URLENCODE() function for SalesForce, but when I try to use it in the HTML email editor in SalesForce, like URLENCODE({EMAIL_ADDRESS})it doesn't execute it, and instead interprets it literally as text. Can anyone help me? is it even possible to use functions from within the SalesForce HTML email editor?
Thanks
I havent used VerticalResponse, but if it leans on salesforce communication templates then you can always create an email template as Visualforce page. Then you can apply Encode functions to merge fields.
I'm glad you were able to find a workaround. If you ever go back to dealing with the URL, it's a good idea to disable our click-tracking when working with merge fields. This can be accomplished by adding nr_ before the http. Example: Subsribe - If you ever try that and it doesn't work, or if you have any other questions, please let us know via one of our Support channels:

How can I send information from one html page to another?

I want to create an html page which contains a text box. When I am given input and the Enter key is pressed, I want it to go to another html page and display the typed keyword.
How can I do this?
I think you need to use a server-side scripting language to facilitate the manipulation of the inputted data on the form, so that it gets "saved" and displayed in the other html page. I suggest you try reading about PHP, and then turn to handling information in Web Forms...just a thought!
You can use Javascript for that. Check this Tutorial : How do I pass variables between two pages? (GET method)
