I was wondering if it is possible to have multiple custom push notifications setup in a single AIR App.
What I am trying to do is allow users to setup custom alerts based on information they would like to receive for example say user 1 would like to know when new actions or drama movies are released on DVD, user 2 would like to know when new comedies are released, user 3 would like to know when any new movie is released.
This is a simple example and there are possibly 1000's of options (postcode/zip information).
Thanks
Technically, there's nothing that wouldn't allow you to do this.
The implementation is mostly backend related though, let me just quickly draft a design for that here;
The user's device registers for push notifications at your backend service.
Your service takes the user's id stores in a DB and passes the device token to the corresponding push notification server.
Once the registration is completed, the user selects what items he'd like to get notified of (naturally your backend service has to know this information as well to store it in the DB).
As soon as a new action movie (or whatever kind of information the user registered for) is available, your service looks in the DB what users registered for that kind of movies and sends a message via push.
So a simple database and some server side scripting will get you going.

I was asked by a potential client if I can have my software interact with Esri/ArcGIS Online.
Use case: users is logged into SomeRandomSoftwareApp and is looking at a Widget, this Widget includes an Esri asset id, the user clicks a link that passes that ID to Esri/ArcGIS Online and behind the scenes the user is logged into Esri and they see the data associated with the Esri/ArcGIS Online.
Thanks, Keith
If I understand correctly, you have two options for this: API Keys or Application Credentials.
The first one, is a permanent token generated by the owner of the data that will allow the application easy access to it. This is still in beta, and it was not ready for use the last time I check some time ago.
The second one, the owner of the data will generate credentials for your application. With this credentials you will have to request a token each time you want to access the data, all this via OAuth 2.0.

I've searched and I can only find tutorials to pull info from a server to update the latest info of my PWA app using JSON. But I can't find any way and any example to fetch data back to a server to mantain for instance a Database updated and display that to all users which may use that PWA.
For example, I have a PWA that let me login (client-server communication), then it displays a list of contacts that were stored in a Database. I can delete, modify or add new users to this list from my PWA app, and after doing that, they'll update on my server Database, so if my friend Paul, wants to check the updated list from his account, he'll see the new changes.
How Can I do that? Which language would I have to use, php and Javascript (Ajax)? Which is the most fluid and optimized way to do it according to a Progressive Web App.
I guess you are trying to store user changes back to the server(webservice and then to the data base).
You have to make an AJAX call to your web service and pass the required data needed to store in DB.
Here is an example.

Depending on the framework you are using, you might have more options to call a web service. Like here is an example for Angular -> https://www.w3schools.com/angular/angular_http.asp
I would like to know what is the clean & correct way to notify my WP8 app that the ChannelUri has changed?
I read that i need to handle this in the ChannelUpdatedUri method. But i have a few queries here. Doesn't this require my app to be running all the time?
Second query is suppose i use ChannelUpdatedUri to listen for changes to the Uri. If there is a change will the app be notified as soon as it launches? Or will it be notified at a later time?
The trouble is if the app is not notified on launch then there is a possibility that it may re-register for a new channel uri before ChannelUpdatedUri is invoked. Isnt it?
Please help!
You'll only get notified of a change in the ChannelUri when you have the listener attached and the app running.
The best approach is to always check for the current Uri and pass it to the server when the app starts. You could leave the listener attached for the lifetime of your app and get a new one if it's lost while the app is running but in reality it's far more likely that the channel will be dropped/disconnected when the phone isn't in use.
There is, of course, the scenario where a channelUri may expire when the app isn't in use but the utility of the app is primarily around sending notifications. Obviously you need the user to restart the app to get a new connection but you can't tell them to restart the app.
This is a generic problem: how do you tell someone that you can't talk to them?
The reality of this situation is that if you really need to tell someone to launch the app again you'll need another way to do it.
Unfortunately, it's not possible to get an updated channelUri from a background agent, but you could query your backend to see if you need one and then raise a toast to the user to prompt them to reopen the app. Or you could just update the tile from the agent when this happens.
Alternatively you'll need to send them the prompt in another way (e.g. email or SMS?) but this is reliant on you capturing and securely storing these details.
There is no perfect solution to this scenario other than creating an app that the user opens regularly regardless of whether there are notifications or not and simply having the notifications as an extra feature.
I am deeply into learning about App Script but there is so much the Google has to offer I'm a bit overwhelmed at figuring out what I need.
I'm designing an online volunteer application work-flow and eventually other things for a non-profit organization.
Here is how I envision the process flow going.
New user comes up first Web App page asks for first last middle and email address
First Last Middle are used together in some way to create a domain log on for the user using the provisioning API (already figured this part out) while prompting the user to create a password
At this point the user is passed to the actual application web app that runs only for domain users so that the relaxed rules of app script for user behind a domain can be leveraged and also so the entire ebb and flow of information stay behind our domain.
Now where I am unclear on is the jump from step 2 to step 3.
What would be the best and most painless (for the user not me) way to put together the transition from running the entry point app that creates the new users domain account as essentially an anonymous user identity to running the domain level app AS their new domain user identity.
I've been studying OAUTH but it seems that is more for external integration with things like drive and youtube etc. My goal with this project is to have everything (aside from things like client side validation and jQuery) running from Google's Cloud.
In #2 i asusume you have a pool of unused gapps accounts.
In #3 you need to get the user logged in in gapps first . For that you need to show a special login url that will redirect to fhe other app. Another is to do a manual oauth flow and use the redirect url to get to fhe new app.
I have metro application in which I implemented Push notification concept for getting single message. If I get more than 1 notification, still my application tile is able to show only 1 notification(msg).Am not able to do how to display multiple notifications for time-specific.Means do I need to write any extra code for displaying multiple notifications on my tile.If so, where should I need do write either client-side or server-side?
Thank you.
There are several ways to look at updating, and depending on what your end goal is, you may end up implementing the code either on the client, or the server, or a little of both.
For the scenario you describe, you need to use Windows Notification Services to push the notification each time you want a new tile notification. Typically, this is done by having a service running in the cloud (a website, or a Windows Azure service, or similar), that calls Windows Notification Service and sends a tile update to the app when something of interest occurs.
If what you want is for multiple notifications to cycle on the tile, that's enabled by calling the enableNotificationQueue method on the TileUpdater class:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/windows.ui.notifications.tileupdater.enablenotificationqueue.aspx
Per the comment below, enableNotificationQueue works for any notification source. But if you want to pull information from a remote service, rather than using push, you can use scheduled polling as means of updating the tile using remote information, as described here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/Hh761476.aspx
Combined with the call to enableNotificationQueue, it may also enable the scenario you're looking for.
