I know about google styled maps, which allow me to control the look of the google basemap.
I want to be able to pull in the aerial imagery from Google into my application, but have it displayed as greyscale as opposed to colour?
Is it possible to retrieve the aerials in greyscale from google via the default v3 API?
Have you seen this example by Odoe which uses css filters on the maps? Might be limited outside of chrome

I need to show neighborhood data on a map.
Each neighborhoods color would be based on the value it has.
In google maps the neighborhoods are highlighted by google when I search for them.
I do not see a way to create custom colors for them through the API.
To clarify I want to show a bunch of adjacent neighborhoods in different colors, not change the color of all neighborhoods.
More Info: Thanks Duncan, Google Maps has neighborhood outlines, eg typing menisa, edmonton into Google Maps highlights that neighborhood. Would that be geocoding via neighborhood?
This link is an example of what I am looking for.

Do I need to use google places to query for the google.maps.places.PlaceGeometry.viewport? And then use heatmaps to specify a weightedvalue?
From reading the documentation it looks to me like Google Maps API does not support this. If so could someone confirm that.
You can find the information to get you started here: Google Fusion Tables
I am attempting to use Google Maps API V3 as part of our system rebuild and want the maps to look and feel like standard Google maps. I have no issue with displaying the map but want to utilise the standard Google Maps Omnibox.
I can find all the individual controls but cannot find the complete Omnibox. Given the individual controls interact with each other I was hoping to simply use the standard Google Maps Omnibox to make the page look like standard a Google map.
Is this available or do I need to create one myself using the individual controls?
I don't think they provide the omnibox. But still, I think the closest thing you get is this: the places search box in the places library.
it is basically nothing but an <input type="text">, which take advantages of the places autocomplete api.
Is it possible to use with google api v3 something similar to this: https://earthbuilder.google.com/10446176163891957399-13737975182519107424-4/mapview/
Should I use google map engine to apply the night view overlay?
Please advice
The link no longer works, but assuming you want something like Google Maps' "night mode" (that automatically activates when navigating during night), yes, it's possible!
You need to use map styling, as described in this official documentation.
With style options you can customize the presentation of the standard Google map styles, changing the visual display of features like roads, parks, businesses, and other points of interest. This means that you can emphasize particular components of the map or make the map complement the style of your app.
(...)
To style your map, call GoogleMap.setMapStyle() passing a MapStyleOptions object that contains your style declarations in JSON format.
You can use the Maps Platform Styling Wizard as a quick way to generate a JSON styling object.
I'm importing a .kmz file into google maps, however google maps only displays a 2D projection of the path and seems incapable of displaying variation in altitude. Is that simply a limitation of the program, or is there a way to retrieve and present the height (typically displayed as a transparent vertical green rectangle with vertical yellow bars running through it in google earth)?
Thanks
KML has some limitations in Google Maps.
In particular, extrude element is not supported in Google Maps.

You could instead use the Google Earth API to embed Google Earth in a web page if that is what you want to do and maintain the 3-D look and feel.
