How to enable irb tab completion in jruby - jruby

I have tried everything I can think of to fix this, but I can't get the tab completion working in jRuby's irb on windows. If I ssh to the linux machine, irb works as expected, but in windows I just get tabs.
I have tried adding the following to my .irbrc (taken from the old questions on SO):
#require 'irb/completion'
#ARGV.concat [ "--readline", "--prompt-mode", "simple" ]
#IRB.conf[:AUTO_INDENT] = true
#IRB.conf[:USE_READLINE] = true
#IRB.conf[:LOAD_MODULES] = [] unless IRB.conf.key?(:LOAD_MODULES)
#unless IRB.conf[:LOAD_MODULES].include?('irb/completion')
# IRB.conf[:LOAD_MODULES] << 'irb/completion'
#end
#require 'irbtools'
#require 'bond'
None of these things work. I've confirmed the .irbrc is working. I've tried both regular console and powershell. I'm blaming this on windows right now, but I honestly don't have a clue what's really going on or how to fix it.
I'm using jRuby 1.7 and Win7 x64 if any of that makes a difference.
Additional
Spent some more time playing with it. I've now tried ansicon, pry, and ConEmu with no luck. I'm starting to think the problem may be with jRuby 1.7 - next thing to try is see if I have the same problem on 1.6.8 - but that's more than I can mess with for now.

It's a bug with JRuby 1.7.0 - in JRuby 1.6.8 the tab completion worked fine once I did require 'irb/completion'
logged the bug under http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/JRUBY-6996

While using Selenium and chromedriver in JMeter, I get an error on chrome

I have inherited a JMeter performance testing script. There is a chromedriver section and an HTTPSampler section. The httpsampler section works fine. The chromedriver section runs into a problem. When I run it chrome pops up like this:
It does not move forward with any of the steps in the plan after that. Up until recently I've also been seeing the error
Error communicating with the remote browser. It may have died.
I am not seeing this now, so I don't know if it's just a difference in how the test is running or what.
The person I inherited this from was running it on a mac and did not get any of these problems. I saw it run with no errors at the same time I was getting them.
One solution I found was to add the --test-type flag to chromedriver. Unfortunately I cannot find a way to add that argument when running it through JMeter. I've tried adding both --test-type and -test-type to the end of the path to chromedriver.exe, but that did not work.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
The error might be due to conflict in chrome driver version. Please install the latest version of ChromeDriver from this link.
Latest version of Chrome Driver supports the browser version v56-58.

PhpStorm + XDebug + Symfony not working

I am beginner with XDebug, even with PhpStorm and Symfony in general.
I am trying to run XDebug now, but I am not able to get it triggered from PhpStorm.
I have come through some basic setting pages, like this one
You can check some of my local settings:
NGinx
etc/hosts
Thanks to #LazyOne I have found the solution.
His advice was right: "Upgrade your xdebug -- 2.5.0RC1 has issues on Windows -- use 2.5.0 final"
Even after upgrading xdebug, I was still having problems, but that was caused by some leftover settings that I tried in an effort to get it working.
Especially this setting "xdebug.remote_mode = jit" was stopping me from having Xdebug stop at my predefined breakpoint. After removing it, it was easy and I can now see, that tutorials are really right.
I shouldn't use RC releases next time, to save hassles.

Can't get JRuby to work on AIX machine

I looked everywhere and I can't find any help on how to get JRuby to work on AIX. I tried unpacking the binary package, tried using the jruby-complete.jar but I stumble on the same problems.
All errors seem to occur because JRuby is looking in the wrong directories for lib files.
For instance, I set my GEM_PATH=/home/dev999/install_tmp/gem and then I try to require activerecord-jdbc-adapter, which is installed under ./gem/gems/activerecord-jdbc-adapter-1.3.12, but for some reason JRuby keeps looking for the gem under ./gem/gems/activemodel-4.1.8/lib as shown below.
dev-host:/home/dev999/install_tmp$ jruby -e "require 'activerecord-jdbc-adapter'"
Errno::ENOENT: ENOENT - /home/dev999/install_tmp/gem/gems/activemodel-4.1.8/lib/activerecord-jdbc-adapter

Any insights on what may be causing this are greatly appreciated.
EDIT: The server is an AIX 64 bits; we tried Java 1.6 and 1.7 both 64 and 32 bits (IBM custom build for AIX) but we ended up sticking with 1.7 64 bits in the final solution, although the version doesn't seem to affect the issues found in the Ruby 1.7.9 installation, but since we couldn't get JRuby 1.7.16 to work, I can't be sure if the Java builds we used could have played part in the problem.
OK, so the server admin and I spent two days trying to figure these things out and I can finally summarize the solution we ended up with to get JRuby working on AIX_64.
1 . First and most important of all, I had to install JRuby 1.7.9 since the 1.7.16 stable version from the main download page in jruby.org has many (seemingly AIX specific) bugs that we could not figure out; for instance, the wrong gem path resolution shown in my original question. Version 1.7.9 sorts out most of the issues automatically;
2) For some weird reason that I'm still unable to figure out, jirb won't work with the jline-2.11.jar lib that comes with the downloaded JRuby package. At some point I got it to work but then I could not retrace my steps so I gave up. To sort this issue out I downloaded jline-1.0.jar and replaced the jline jar located under <jruby_path>/lib/ruby/shared/readline/jline-2.11.jar; please note that even if we are replacing this with jline-1.0, the jar file name must still be the same i.e. jline-2.11.jar otherwise jirb will complain about a missing lib;
3) Some common steps: add jruby/bin to $PATH; make sure which java shows the correct Java version you want to use; set $JAVA_HOME;
4) (Optional, but very useful) in order to avoid having to grant my user write access to the /usr/<jruby>/<gem_paths> directories but still allow me to install gems without having to ask the admin I added export GEM_PATH=~/.gem to my .profile, then mkdir ~/.gem. To install gems to my home directory I do jgem install <gem_name> -i $GEM_PATH.
Hopefully this helps other users struggling with the same problems.
My main suggestion is to join the jruby mailing list and ask there. I've used jruby just once and managed to get it working. Here is a bit of magic that I don't really understand that I have at the top of one of the first files I require:
# We need the db2j.jar loaded
require 'db2j.jar'
# Some feaking magic Java needs
Java::JavaClass.for_name 'com.ibm.db2j.jdbc.DB2jDriver'
# The connection string is jdbc:db2j:the/path/to/the/file where the
# file is actually a directory.
CloudscapeDriver = 'jdbc:db2j'

How to get NetBeans 7.4, Ruby and MySQL to play together (on Windows)

The tags say it all, really. This is a project that used to work on earlier versions, but not now. If you know the answer, just stop reading and tell me how.
An existing project is working fine on older releases of NetBeans and MySQL. I am just trying to get it working on the latest release of everything. Nothing fancy. Just plain vanilla Ruby on Rails on Windows/MySQL.
Clean install of Netbeans 7.4. No problems.
Clean full install of MySQL 5.5. No problems. Includes Java connector.
Clean install of ruby and rails from community: http://plugins.netbeans.org/plugin/38549. No problems.
Everything is working just fine.
Webrick starts and runs. Absolutely no surprises to this point.
I tried to gem install MySQL: it fails, but it is not unexpected. I have no interest in pursuing that line. Ditto for MySQL 2. It's always hard building native libraries on Windows.
I tried to gem install all/any of the following:
* activerecord-jdbc-adapter
* activerecord-jdbcmysql-adapter
* jdbc-mysql
They install just fine, but the end point is always the same:
cannot load com.mysql.jdbc.Driver.
I think I know what this means, but I have no idea how to fix it. Is it a classpath problem? Is it a bug? Is it an incompatibility just about to be fixed? Is it because I'm using Windows? Who knows? I can't think of anything else to try, and the forums are full of these errors with no solutions that seem to fit my problem.
I am not sure, but maybe the blog post Installing MySQL on Windows 7 x64 and using Ruby with it will help.

PhpStorm crashes on startup

I installed PhpStorm on my machine (Windows XP) at work. At first it was fine and I used it for a day or so. After the installation of (likely) an incompatible plugin, the IDE freezes on startup.
I already tried reinstalling and updating Java. I even cleared the registry of any JetBrains and PhpStorm entries and installed it again.
I've searched the JetBrains forums, but it seems the problem I have is not a common one.
Maybe one of you had the same issue?
Any hints would be much appreciated.
Try to delete application plug-ins/caches. If it doesn't help, also delete settings. See the FAQ for the directories locations on your system.
Most likely idea.log contains the exceptions from the plug-in which causes this problem. I'd recommend sending this log to the plug-in vendor.
I had a similar issue and followed #CrazyCoder's instructions (thank you!), but the error turned out to be with related to indexing.
I reopened the IDE, and hurried to File > Invalidate Caches / Restart ...
Had a different issue (Ubuntu 20.x)
My use case :
I launched phpstorm and hit "cancel" while it was automatically reloading my last project (which closed PS immediately)
Then, trying to launch it just did show the splash screen for some seconds... and nothing. (tried it several times).
It turned out the process were still somewhere, while no GUI was visible.
ps aux | grep phpstorm had several (many) results.
All those zombie processes moaning "JetBraiiiiiiins" was a quite terrifying sight to me
Solution ? Kill'em all !
pkill -f phpstorm
I met similar issue while starting my PhpStorm 7.
Then I followed CrazyCoder's instructions to delete a new-installed plug-in at ~/Library/Application Support/WebIde70 (using Mac) and it finally works...
C:\Users\username.PhpStorm2016.1\system\LocalHistory
On Linux, when running pstorm from the terminal, it may complain about:
/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.21' not found (required by /home/user/.local/share/JetBrains/Toolbox/apps/PhpStorm/ch-0/201.7846.90/jbr/lib/libjfxmedia.so)
Which can be fixed by adding this into ~/.bashrc:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib64:/usr/lib64
