I have designed a very basic holding page at www.tomrankinmusic.com
I have embedded Webfonts into the page and checked them in the latest Firefox, Safari and Chrome on Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4 where they show correctly, however they do not show in Chrome and IE6 on Windows XP Pro and default to Times New Roman.
What is the reason for this and how can I rectify it?
As an additional question, I understand that iPhone only recognises SVG fonts and I didn't get access to the SVG font when purchasing on myfonts.com. Is there any other way I can display webfonts on Safari Mobile?
Also, IE6 displays the large logo on the page with a grey background - I'm not even sure whether I should be worried about IE6 performance but, you know the web surfing public.
U can also use this converter, if FS will be have problems http://fontface.codeandmore.com/
HI now convert your font this site and apply than your page

This wordpress website is shown different on Windows than on Mac. So on my Windows Computer I am using Google Chrome. And even on Firefox it is the same site.
But when I use the website on a MAC, it looks completely different. (Not the same font, not the same margin, etc..)
At the beginning I thougt, that maybe MAC's Safari Browser is the reason for this but even when I open Firefox on the MAX, it looks different. Why?
How can I adjust the site so, that it looks like on the Windows Version?
Hope you can help me!
Kind regards
The browsers use fonts preintsalled in operating system and display text via font-family css.
The different operating systems have different font families pre-installed, and when a certain font is missing, it is silently substituted with another. Moreover, the font that is used for substitution may be a native to the OS and specific to that particular OS only.
The same font size can be displayed differently on different OS.
Besides fonts, there might be other problems of different website view such as rendering engine(webkit, presto...), browser version, client operating system, browser-specific code and etc.
[Problem] -- I am having a problem with web fonts rendering on a specific computer, other computers in my house render the text fine (same OS and browser versions). They look really bad and pix-elated I know all about differences between how browsers render things differently but its not supposed to look this bad.
[What I've Tried] -- I tried prioritizing the .svg in my CSS first on my site to fix it on Google Chrome but it did not help. I installed Firefox and discovered it too does not render the Open Sans font correctly either. I also have tried clearing my cache (I have a cache clearing plugin) and opening in a incognito window thinking a chrome extension was causing a problem but no difference. From the screen shot it appears Chrome at least renders the larger "Open Sans Condensed" but the smaller text is pixelated. Its weird a fresh install of FF also has the same problem as Chrome. Also tried downloading the font files from Google Fonts and installing them locally, no difference.
IE 11 renders the text correctly. I need trouble shooting ideas..
The screen shot below is from the official Google Fonts website located here http://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Open+Sans#pairings so it should rule out any bad coding on my own page. The open sans font on fontsquirrel loads correctly and its not pix-elated.
Here is what I see and I don't think the fonts should look that pixelated... http://imgur.com/hwvupBq sorry too low rep to post images :(
Each browser loads the fonts using different formats. Usually you would use font-face with the four different types, EOT, WOFF, SVG AND TTF. You can use the Font Squirrel site to load your font and spit out the four different versions. Also, take a look at Google font embedding which takes care of the the work (although they will look slightly different in different browsers)
The problem ended up being that my Windows 7 machine did not have cleartype enabled. See this post to see how to enable it http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28790/tweak-cleartype-in-windows-7/
just like the title says, my website layout appears to be fine on all other browsers at various zooms, sizes and what not, but not in Safari.
The website adheres to HTML5 and CSS3 standards according to W3Cs validators, and I cannot spot any errors myself.
Website can be found at : http://www.kehza.co.uk/Arcade
It's very basic atm, I want the layout to work on all browsers before I progress. (catch bugs early on).
Edit :-
In Safari at certain zooms, massive white space appears at the bottom of the page, also a border is massively out of place.
See images for difference thanks :)
The latest version of Safari for Windows is 5.1.7, but some of the CSS tags that you are using require Safari 7.0. One example is the box-shadow for the #wrapper element. This is why the website does not display correctly in the Windows version of Safari.

It is rumored that Apple has dropped development for Safari on Windows. You will probably want to decide what legacy version of Safari that the website will support. If you are planning on using features of CSS3, then you will want to test the website in a later version of the Safari browser, available on the OSX platform.
I am working on a project where client wants to use MotivaSans-Bold.
However on windows browsers it displaces text on twitter bootstrap enabled buttons but looks good on Mac browsers. But if I try to change padding it disrupts Mac browsers.
What can be the problem? Is there any problem associated with webfonts?
EDIT
#font-face {font-family: 'MotivaSans-Bold';src: url('webfonts/279BB3_D_0.eot');src: url('webfonts/279BB3_D_0.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),url('webfonts/279BB3_D_0.woff') format('woff'),url('webfonts/279BB3_D_0.ttf') format('truetype');}
The problem is most likely that the spacing on the webfont is going to vary from browser to browser. What's probably going on is that on Chrome on the Mac the font and button look good, but then Firefox on Windows 7 the fonts renders slightly larger and throws off your button.
You should be able to address this with padding/margin via CSS as long as you don't try to set any fixed widths.
If you post a link to the page it'll be easier to suggest a more specific answer, but if the webfonts look relatively similar both Mac and Pc than there's nothing 'wrong' as far as the font goes and it's really a CSS issue.
I got a really strange problem, and after so much tries and research I can't get out of it.
I have a website, but SOME (just 5% of visitors) people with the SAME version of chrome, see the text flowing out of divs and text overlapping. It's very strange because I tested the website on all chrome browsers using browser testers, without any problem. And in internet explorer or firefox this problem never happens...
A page is located here
And here are some screenshots of what SOME people see (maybe you won't see this in chrome)
Maybe it is because of the font face I am using? Or maybe some bad coded CSS?
Please help me out of this!
Thanks a lot!
I see you use .svg font. Recently I was hunting some Chrome font rendering bugs and saw this:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=95102
This seem very similar to issues you are having. You could try to serve some other font type to Chrome and if this would fix that.
If you don't want or can't serve some other font type to Chrome, the only thing you can do is wait until Chrome version 24 is out to all users which should be soon (I can't find any announcement)
I tested it in
Chrome 23.0.1271.97 m
Chrome 26.0.1371.0 canary
Chromium 25.0.1334.0 (169326)
# Windows 7 x64 and your page seems fine for me.
