Android API for Google Drive?
I want to synchronize a single small xml file between Android application and separate standalone Java-based desktop application. First, a user pushes a button in the Android application and the xml file is stored somewhere in the cloud. Next, the user launches standalone desktop application and gets the xml file from the cloud.
I wanted to use Google Drive for this purpose. However, I am confused about the following from Google Drive help pages:
Warning: Authorization alone is not sufficient to give your app access
to users' files — app installation is also required. Apps will not
have any API access to files unless users have first installed the app
in Chrome Web Store.
Is there a way to directly grab/write a file from/to Google Drive having the credentials? Or at least a way with least problems for the end user?
At the moment, we realize this isn't feasible with the Drive API, as you'd need a token created for a client ID that had been installed from the Chrome Web Store. We are planning a fix for this, but don't have anything immediately. In the immediate term, you should use the Documents List API.

I have spent a lot of times creating a project in https://console.cloud.google.com, enabling the Drive API, creating server account credentials, and finally writing a small NodeJS integration allowing me to read and write files to Google Drive.
My intent is to be able to store files (organized in folders) on Google Drive from my server, and see them in the classic Google Drive desktop app with my Google account to check everything is fine.
My project seems correctly setup and I was able to create files from my NodeJS program (the files exist, I can list them with the same program), but I can't see the files anywhere in Google Drive with my Google account, with which I created the project.
I was expecting this to be extremely simple. That I would have a out of the box Drive UI allowing me to review the changes.
In the documentation they say I can configure a UI integration but I don't know if this is what I am looking for or not. It seems complicated, talking about my "app" etc, while I just want a simple Google Drive UI for it !
Could anyone help me understand all this ?
Thanks
I am working on an Android App which requires saving certain key-value data into Cloud. So when the user installs my app, I could restore the key-value data from Cloud. I have done a lot of research including Android BackupAgent API which is not stable at all. I have done certain research about using Google Drive Android SDK, which indeed could backup and restore the key-value data successfully. But it requires user interaction to select which account, even though my device only adds one Google Account and it has been authorized the app to access Google Drive SDK before.
I would like to make the whole process, backup and restore, as seamless and automatically as possible, with limited user interaction. I noticed that WhatsApp Android could implement such feature. But I failed in finding samples in Google Drive SDK samples.
Is there any sample that demonstrates the data restoration automatically without selecting the Google Account like WhatsApp Android? Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
I have a Chrome Packaged App that I want to be able to graph data for the user. I would ideally like to interface with something along the lines of the Charts/Visualization API, but I'm trying to find a solution that will work offline, possibly through integration with other apps or within my app specifically. Is there a way to insert a Google Chart or something very similar into my packaged app? Is there an API or feature I am unaware of that would make this feasible?
Unfortunately the Google Charts library cannot be downloaded for inclusion in a packaged app due to their terms and conditions:
Sorry; our terms of service do not allow you to download and save or host the google.load or google.visualization code.

That said, there are many excellent Javascript libraries that are available for download which you could include with your packaged app and use as if they were included from a remote source.
This stack overflow question should help you decide between the various options. You should then download the Javascript files for the library you chose and place them within the folder of your packaged app and then use them like any local Javascript that you've written.
I would like to build an external asp.net mvc application that has the following features:
The application is accessible via its own domain such as www.itsowndomain.com
The application has access to one Google account (such as itsownaccount#gmail.com) where all the files are stored in the Drive folder. So the users of the application should not have to log into their own Google accounts in order to access the files from this application. The application needs to have automatic access to this (itsownaccount#gmail.com)'s google Drive, that process should be transparent to the user, they should never have to authenticate themselves, its should all happen in the code in the background when the application loads.
The application will use Google Picker to list the files that are in (itsownaccount#gmail.com)'s google Drive folder.
My questions are as follows:
Is what I am trying to do possible, basically using Google Drive as a storage of files and downloading them, uploading new ones and possible editing some from an external application?
Can I use one account because all the files should be publicly available so I do not want users to have to be thinking about authentication in a site just so they can view publicly accessible files?
How do I go about implementing this, is there a tutorial because the ones I have looked at all differ as they mostly try authenticate each user with their own Google account?
you can use Google Drive as the storage solution for your application, check the Google Drive SDK: https://developers.google.com/drive/
Google Drive application usually rely on the users' accounts to store their files, but nothing prevents you from using your account to store all files and make them publicly accessible
there's an ASP.NET MVC tutorial and sample app at https://developers.google.com/drive/examples/dotnet, however, it authenticates each user with his own account. You can start from it and replace the standard OAuth flow with one that always uses your credentials, for instance, by always using a Refresh token that you generated in advance and provided to the app.
I have released an app for Google Drive in the Chrome Web Store. I thought it might get added to the Google Drive Collection automatically, but that didn't happen. Is there any form I have to submit?
For your application to appear in the collection of Drive apps your Chrome Web Store app's manifest file need to specify the Google Drive container and your API console project ID as described in this document.
Then your app's listing should get the "Works with Google Drive" badge and, given a few minutes delay for indexing, your app will appear on the collection of Drive apps.
Beware: you may not see it there as a listing doesn't appear for you in that collection if you have already installed it on your browser. It will appear to all other users who have not installed your app yet. To make sure it's there: try looking at the collection with another browser (FireFox for instance).
