I'm reading "SQL Server 2008 Report Services - Unleashed" and I'm reading the section on page 128 where they have the reader create a new dataset.
The photo in the book shows a slightly different Dataset Properties dialog window to the one I'm using. The one in the book shows a dropdown list for choosing a data source while the same dialog window I'm using does not. I looked at the other tabs on the left side of the window but did not find anything that would suggest the user can choose a data source for the dataset. The list of tabs on the left are also in a different order as well.
The photo in the book also shows a query text field in the window and mine does not.
There is text on the top area of the window says "Choose a data source and create a query" and a "Name" text field just like the book photo but after that everything is different. Mine has a radio button set ("Use a shared dataset" and "Use a dataset embedded in my report")
Clicking the OK button gives a message "<> Select a datasource". Could this be a Bids bug?
If I look at the same dialog when creating a report using the wizard it shows the same as in the book.
All help will be appreciated.
Found it!
I hope this helps anyone who gets caught by this one. It had us guessing for hours.
Select the "Use a dataset embedded in my report" radio button and the dropdownlist will appear.

I'm working on a DB in Microsoft Access 2016 and created a search form with multiple filters and then a Search button. It works perfectly fine, it shows the results in a query table that opens separately but I would like the results to be shown on the form page right below the button.
I tried:
creating a list box and setting the row source to my query
dragging the query itself on my form page to create a subquery and it only every data in the DB. The query is still functional, it opens in another tab and works, but the subform doesn't change at all
creating a combo box and displaying the results after pressing the button in the said combo box
adding another button in the subform to run the query but it has the same outcome: results displayed in a separate tab.
pic of what I want my form to do
I attached a pic, that's not my actual DB. Basically I want the box to display my results only after clicking the button.
Nothing has worked :( is there anything else I could try? I would gladly post my .accdb file if it's easier to understand what I mean.
Thank you!
Ive had a request from a client to make a popup box appear on the click of a databar within an SSRS report. Not had any luck with various Google Searches and just wanted to know if anybody has either got this work directly or has any suggestions for a workaround they have used?
Bit of background on the actual report itself, it simply contains a table with various stacked DataBars showing comparable data between multiple users in a system. The ability is needed to click a bar and see which User that bar relates to.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
It's not quite the same thing, but you can use the SSRS tooltips functionality to achieve something similar, i.e. a user will hover over a part of a chart and some contextual text information will be displayed.
Show ToolTips on a Series has some further information.
You can add an action to an object with a javascript popup which can show a specific URL or another report. In the action click on Fx to set an expression as follows:
I used a different script to popup a URL which contains an image url from the database:
="javascript:void(window.open('" + Fields!ImageURL.Value + "', null, 'width=800, height=500, status=no, toolbar=no, menubar=no, location=no'))"
( you can replace Fields!Image.Value with a url , this is the URL from a database field)
a
On a PC this will showup properly sized as a popup. On an iPad it will appear as a new tab.
There is a report contains 1000s of pages of data.Is there any way to make a button on the first page of the report so that ,if click on the button it goes to the end of the pages.
Is there any expression to be written, with out writing the vb.net code?
There is a button like that in SSRS (you can also type page number in the box and press enter):
EDIT:
You can add a bookmark at the end of your report and then make a textbox which will jump to it (textbox properties->Action->mark "go to bookmark" and select the bookmark you made. I am not sure, however, if it works well in excel.
Web viewer control, this button already exists.
I don't believe you can add a button to SSRS and export to Excel to go to last row.
You can use Excel command to go to last cell which should work.
Refer to [http://office.microsoft.com/en-ca/excel-help/excel-shortcut-and-function-keys-HP010073848.aspx][1]
CTRL+G
Displays the Go To dialog box.
F5 also displays this dialog box.
Click on "Special..." button and select "Last Cell" option and click OK
Sorry .. Tried posting images for you but not enough points to do so.
There are 2 ways of reaching the last page or the data on the last page:
Sol 1. #kyooryu has already mentioned above in his solution along with a screenshot.
Sol 2. You can freeze the header and set the display result to show the data on a single page. This way you will not have multiple pages and you can directly hit the end button from keyboard on the report manager to reach the bottom result set. Freezing the header will help you in identifying the column names.
Step1: I open an Access form when the software opens. It acts like a switchboard manager where the user can open other forms and reports. (Popup = yes, modal = no)
Step2: Click to open a "Master Form" which also has other options. (ditto) So the original VB code called this form to be open and is still "running" in the background.
Step 3: Click to open a report based on the record selected.
So now there's 2 forms open and 1 report. User cannot toggle between them, must close one to get to the other (necessary).
On the open report, I would like to modify the rightclick commandbar. However, "Close" doesn't work because Access now shows Form1 and Form2 above as gray and Access is locked. I would like to be able to right-click to do a number of things including Close, Change to Design View, etc. But if I'm locked out like this, none of these will work.
I searched on...
1. Ending the background vba that's running - no luck
2. Setting focus on the active screen name - no luck
3. Setting focus on a control on the Form2 above - no luck
4. Tried all kinds of CommandBar things, no luck (ID choice vs. manual OnAction) and many more
I'd be happy to attach what I'm doing but it's pretty big, although I could probably cut out the sections that this applies too...
I've been searching for about 16 hours now... Anyone???
Thanks so much.
Popup = Yes in Access means two things:
The form or report stays above all other forms and reports that have Popup = No and above Access’ application window.
The form or report is not bound to the area of Access' application window and can be drawn outside of it.
You have two options:
Set Popup = No for the two forms. In this case they will be tied to the application window area.
Set Popup = Yes for the report as well, so that it can stand in front of the two forms.
I am using Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I need to add a parameter to a local report. All the information I have found says to use the Report Parameters Dialog Box. Great!! It seems like I should select the rdlc file then the Report Menu option is displayed and I select the Dialog Box from the menu. But it is not there. Where is it? I have a code from a Microsoft example and can edit the XML if I need to but it looks like I should not need to. Help!!
I found it!!!!
You must have the rdlc open.
Press Ctrl+Atl+D to open the Report Data window (or select it from the view menu).
The parameters option is in the selection list.
Right-click it to add a new parameter.
Fill in the fields and select your options.
Ta-Da
The Report Data window can also be found under the View menu item if your report is open. Seems like a weird location; I only found it because I stumbled across it.
