Im new at web programming and I have to make a website which will get the data from a mssql server. The thing I tried is just write SQL commands and get the data but I need to change the settings of internet explorer so it did not work. Now I want to write a web service to get the data form my server and formats the data like .json and then I need to use that service to display my list on my website. What is your suggestion where should I begin to work ? And Im using KendoUI for my website.
The easiest and probably most used approach nowadays is to use an ORM - most common EntityFramework for .NET developers, then in your web service you just return the objects and they are automatically serialized.
Search the web for some tutorials.

Is it possible to use a wordpress website similarly as php or asp.net websites to access jason webservice? If It is possible is there any limitations? Which is better to use knowing that I need to use it to send and receive json objects to and from the db server, and will need it to display events, news, items, buying and booking. Note that I am using the same webservice on a mobile application. Thankyou in advance
Is it possible to use a WordPress website similarly as PHP or ASP.net websites to access JSON webservice?
Yes. WordPress is built with PHP, and PHP provides the necessary tools you need to access a JSON webservice, and convert these into PHP Objects.
Are there any limitations?
No.
Which is better to use? (WordPress vs ASP.net)
WordPress is a content management system, where as ASP.net is a framework. WordPress will, without modifications, be efficient at managing content such as events, news and items. ASP.net will not provide these things for you out of the box.
Im new to Angular.JS and just wondering if it is possible to write mysql queries in angularjs?
I would like this as I am trying to create a messaging system in which I query the database and get the information live to the webpage.
Any help is appreciated, hope the question is reasonable. Gab
That is not advisable (if possible at all) as it would defeat the purpose of Angular.
You should consume data by targeting a RESTful api/service exposed by the server. The service would handle the DB access for you and provide the data to Angular using a more portable format (e.g. JSON or XML)
Some of the basics of linking Angular and REST are described here
There are related questions on SO about exposing your particular DB flavor using REST here.
This can only be a starting point but it should give you some ideas. I will try to amend this with more info as I come across it.
I am currently building a mobile application with Kendo UI which I intend to run through phonegap and deploy to some App Stores in the near future.
I have set out the layout in HTML, CSS & JS using the Kendo framework and everything is looking good and in place.
My app will talk to an existing MySQL database which already has lots of data in it. I am wanting to pull data out of the database and display it in my application. Can anybody with any experience with Kendo UI, phonegap and app deployment help me get started as the Kendo documentation for this is not very clear.
Thanks in advance!
Your mysql database with lots of data is probably on a server somewhere.
Most servers that have mysql will probably have php installed.
So the easiest thing you can do is use some of the php mvc frameworks out there to get the data from the db, convert that into json and send that to your kendo-phonegap app.
You can read more about this approach here.
Hope this helps.
I think you need to use some wrappers. Kendo UI will not just take the data from your database.
For example setup the apache http server with php. The best way would be to get some lightweight framework which would handle the database for you. From client side with Kendo you will be querying your server.
I'm developing an app that displays a list of products that are in stock from various electronics websites. I have two methods in mind for accomplishing this task.
Create a C# application that parses the html from the various websites and updates a SQL table, use a php script to get data from the SQL
table, display it in JSON format, and parse the JSON with the iPhone
Use the iPhone to parse html from each website, eliminating the need for a server and SQL database
I don't know all the pros and cons for each method, but I do know that hosting a web server with a SQL database costs money. However, using the iPhone to parse html from over 40 websites could be very slow, and use a lot of data.
Which one is the best method for creating an app like this? Am I even on the right track?
Thanks,
Miles
I would prefer the web service approach in which I would parse it on my own server and then serve a JSON representation to iPhone.
Why?
Because when something changes on the html you won't need to wait for Apple to confirm your app change, and user will not need to update his app.
Your First Option is much prefered with little change. You Don't Need C# TO parse the HTML as PHP has all options you need. IT can save data in Database and similary can output in your desired format.
As per the Cost, using Iphone may cost you more with data usage(Operator service Charges) as compare to web server hosting with PHP & mysql. Further you can have already optimised facilities of HTML parsing in own server with tendency to meet all complexities served on WEB.
I am developing an education app for Kids.
The application is going to contain pictures, stories and video as well.
Including all above contents in the app will surely bloat it and hence i would like store all data on a server that will be accessed by my app.
I haven't used any remote databases (like MySQL or Oracle) with any other iOS app. In fact i am a newbie in developing such kind of apps. Can any one point me to a sample
Connecting to a remote mysql is really not recommended.
The security here is critical.
You should create a webservice and my advice to you is to make sure that the access to the webservice is restricted
The webservice can be your own "protocol" or any other well known protocol like SOAP
By your own I mean, json, csv .... or whatever.
Edit 1
The technology of your webservice should be dependent on many things.
If the system is small, and the code needs to be update very often, I would suggest to do it with PHP and some small(!) MVC framework like CI.
But if its a large system with needs of ACL (access control list) I will probably choose java with spring...
I suggest that : Do not connect to / use database directly from user application. It may causes serious security problems and your app should have native SQL drivers to connect db.
So, create a web service that receive queries from the application and response in XML, JSON or some other strings that easy to parse. This will be much easier than embed native APIs into your apps.
