How to make an HTML5 that does not require the blackberry browser component? - html

I used the latest and greatest jQuery Mobile (RC1) to develop an app for the client. I used the latest Webworks version from RIM and packaged the app in a Cod file.
The app works great if accessed through the web browser ETC however when I installed the actual generated JAD/Cod files onto a blackberry device, performance was horrible even with minimum number of jQuery libraries.
Since I have Googled this everywhere and it is apparent that one cannot have a meaningful app experience if Webworks is used, I want to be able to just create something that just places the app icon on the phone. Once clicked, it open the browser and takes the user to the web server where the HTML files are parked.
Is this possible?

You can do that, with a very simple Java-application.
The following code:

Reference a native app from a responsive website?

I'm at a loss and have exhausted my search engine fu.
How do you refer to the linking that allows you to reference your native app in the AppStore (or Google Play) from your responsive website?
If user doesn't have your native app but they visit your website you often see a link to the native app above the page that you can usually dismiss (though this Instagram example I just created doesn't appear to let you dismiss it).
How is this handled?

Chrome 32 - Tab opened with chrome extension doesn't render plug-in correctly

We have a Chrome extension that can be used to open a page into our website. From there the user then continues onto the next page which has a custom NPAPI plug-in embedded in it. This has always worked fine. However, since the version 32 update the plug-in loads and runs (it's a video conferencing plug-in and is clearly running as the other side can see video) however it doesn't show up on the page. Examining the DOM everything looks fine. Grabbing the border and re-sizing the browser will cause the plug-in to suddenly render correctly. I've tried all manner of javascript/css tricks to try and mimic this behavior as a workaround but nothing works. Tabs opened manually (not using chrome.tabs.create) work fine.
This worked up till 32.
Any ideas around this?

It seems like Google wants you to use it's Native Client tech to run native compiled code on user's machines. It is cool stuff...but so far I've found it difficult/more limiting to work with when compared to NPAPI (but there are obvious upsides, security for instance).
You could also build a native app and use native message passing to communicate from extension -> app. Once downside to this is that there is currently no way to bundle a native app into an extension install, so the user will need to download and install your app separately.

Samsung Smart-TV SDK Internet Browser not available

I just recently downloaded and installed the Samsung Smart-TV SDK 4 (without the IDE, just the emulator). I'm doing this because I want to test the Web browser only, nothing else.
However, when I start up the emulator (2012 version), I can't find any apps when I get to smarthub. I've created a Samsung account but I see no default apps that would usually appear on the TV, not even the Internet browser.
Is there something I'm missing?! I just want to test the Internet Browser.

The emulator is provided for testing your own apps, not to run the apps that people who buy TVs/BRPs/etc get with their device.
Only apps you write and place in the apps/ directory will appear.
That said, you can write an app that does nothing except:
location.href = "http://example.com/";
if i write an app with just location.href = "http://example.com/ is working (i have sdk 5.0) but the browser i get on the TV is not the same browser i get on the tv if i just lunch the integrated web browser app.
The big difference i see is that my app has a browser without the top bar with navigation controls and also there is no mouse pointer and i need to connect an external usb mouse to the tv

Run single page HTML and JavaScript page offline in iPad 1 safari

I am coaching my son's flag football team this winter and I'd like to make a little one pager app with jquery which will display and animate for the team some plays during huddles. I have been researching this quite a bit and it seems there is no way for safari to load local files. Some have suggested using goodreader, the app, but according to their manual they use a simplified browser rather than safari.
Not sure what else to try. The iPad is wifi only using ios5.
Safari is not capable of loading local files.
You have a few different options. You can:
Upload the file to Dropbox, and use it's offline mode to view it.
Use a native / hybrid container (like Appcelerator, PhoneGap, etc)
to bundle your HTML/Javascript into a "native" app.
No Safari can not load local files. You can't run local applications from there. What you can do is develop an actual app for your iphone using dreamweaver/jQuery. You could make pre-recorded videos and play them on your iPad as well. Goodreader, from what I can tell, is for reading local PDFs, which has nothing to do with apps... (but I don't really know)

Edit: I just thought of a simpler approach that should work. Open a drop-box account at dropbox.com and put the website/Jquery in the public folder. Get the URL for the public folder and use that. Open the website on your iPad and then don't close the window. Even when the network connections stops it should still work.

A universal cross-platform way (mobile) to show alerts to a user

I have a task to create a client application which can show notifications to a user with a high probability of notifications being noticed.
The application should work on Android (2.0+)/iOS/WP.
Here is the use case:
The user starts the Application and performs some Action. Then he switches to the home screen/another application.
The response to the Action makes the Application to issue a notification. The notification is noticed by the user disregarding of what another application (or home screen) he uses on his mobile device at the moment.
There is no requirement for the application to be a native app or to be a web browser-based mobile app. The notification could be a sound or a vibration on the device, but I know that accessing the vibrations from within a browser is still tricky.
Here are my research results of making universal sound/vibro notification mechanism so far:
it seems that making a mobile device vibrate from a browser works only in mobile Firefox (no iOS, no WP);
the support of the audio html5 tag is still experimental, it doesn't work on each and every browser/device;
the sound alert from this example works only in mobile Firefox (asks for a plugin to play an mp3 sound), the Android browser just remains silent.
So, the question is:
Is there any way to force a user of a mobile device (Android 2.0+/iOS/WP) to view a notification from a mobile application? Is the only way to do this is to write a native app for each mobile platform?
I would propose PhoneGap for that particular problem.
Among other things it features cross-platform alert, sound and vibrator notifications.
Only quirk for Windows Phone 7 is that the Cordova lib includes a generic beep file that is used. You should consult the Notification reference page to make sure if it can help you.
