How to change the FrameworkElement to Image in WinRT? - windows-runtime

I have FrameworkElement with my hand, it is having parent also. I want change it as Image in WinRT platform. I tried the WriteableBitmap. But it does have element parameter to render. VisualBrush also not available here.

WinRT doesn't have a means to create a bitmap from a visual - at least in the current preview. See this post on the WinRT forums for more.

is it possible to pin AIR app over any opened windows?

I need to pin AIR application over other windows, I mean, regardless if AIR application is in focus or not, it must not hide, it always must be shown, whatever other program I activate or work with, AIR application must be over every window always. Is it possible? If it is, please show me the function (example code will be better :) ) which does it, incase if AS3 has one.
You're looking for the alwaysInFront property of the NativeWindow class:
The alwaysInFront property specifies whether this window will always be in front of other windows (including those of other applications).
The following example forces a window to be displayed in front of all
other windows (that are not similarly forced to the front):
windowObj.alwaysInFront = true;
Another example with a reference to a display object on the window stage:
displayObject.stage.nativeWindow.alwaysInFront=true;

Adobe Air - Starling/Features | Controls and device simulator

I have few questions here, regarding creating app in Adobe Air using Starling and feathers.
I created yet a very simple app, which has Feathers list controller with static data provided to its dataProvider. According to the code it should work fine, but there are three major issues I am facing.
1: Touch/Click Positions
I am using:
list.addEventListener( Event.CHANGE, list_changeHandler );
Now the problem is, clicking coordinates are not correct. Clicking on 3rd Item triggered 4th item, to trigger 3rd, 2nd item needs to be clicked it's half way through etc.
2: Nothing, without Theme
I am using a custom theme, came along with a tutorial. If I don't use the theme, I am unable to see anything on the screen, somehow.
3: Resolution (Device Simulator) Problem
Though buggy, but it works with Theme, but my app doesn't fit with the resolution for each device simulator. Either its, iPad or iPhone 4 or any android simulator.
Also, can anyone please also explains, what is significance and use of Context3D render mode in starling class.
Any help is appreciated:
Thanks in advance
Waqar Iqbal
Starling is a Stage3D framework that displays content directly on graphic card using Context3D. Everything displayed by Starling is always under the regular display list. Feather is a component framework based on Starling.
Stage3D cannot handle any mouse operations so Starling and Feather simulate all their mouse event (those mouse event never really happen anywhere, they are created by calculation of mouse position on the stage)
not sure, never used Feather
Starling does not handle screen density and dpi calculation, if you want your app to fit any screen you'll have to handle it yourself.
I think you should see the example carefully. if u want to use any feathers component either you have to use feathers theme or custom theme.
if you use feather theme you need to provide theme path and before using any component you need to initialize that theme.Then use component any where.without theme you will not see any thing.
1: Touch/Click Positions
please provide minTouchHeight in class theme of DefaultListItemRenderer like:-
renderer.minWidth = this.gridSize;
renderer.minHeight = this.gridSize;
renderer.minTouchWidth = this.gridSize;
renderer.minTouchHeight = this.gridSize;
2: Nothing, without Theme,
3: Resolution (Device Simulator) Problem
Follow the example given in feather library
feathers-2.1.1\themes\MetalWorksMobileTheme\source\feathers\themes

MVVMCross Downloadcache - ProgressView during loading

I'm currently testing the downloadcache and this really looks great.
I have some questions regarding this plugin (I'm pretty new to C# and don't understand the full source code of the plugin):
1) ProgressView
I would like to show a progressview on the image until it has been loaded.
To do that, I need to be notified when the image is loaded.
In the "MvxImageViewLoader" I see there is an Action "afterImageChangeAction" (null by default).
However, I don't understand if and how I can access that Action from "MvxImageView"?
(how to set it)
2) Don't load old image
When using Tables or Cellectionviews in iOS, it's important to check if the URL has been changed before setting the image (because iOS reuses the objects). I looked at the source code of the downloadcache and I don't see this check.
However, in the "MvxDynamicImageHelper.cs" class, I see that when a new URL is set, it calls "ClearCurrentHttpImageRequest();" which removes the "update" Events.
So I assume this is enough to prevent that an image is set to the wrong UIImageView?
3) ImageCache size in (mega)bytes
The ImageCache does not have a property to define the mamiximum size (megabytes for example) of the persistent image store (on the HD). I prefer to use a maximum size in (mega)bytes instead of a maximum amount of files because the user will care more how much space an app takes instead of how many files are stored by the app.
I assume the easiest for me is to define a "TimeSpan PeriodSaveInterval" independent from the one in MvxFileDownloadCache to just check the size of the folder defined for the Image Cache or any other recommendations?
Is it dangerous for performance to scan the folder and calculate the size of all the images in a folder?
Regards,
Matt
1) ProgressView
I would like to show a progressview on the image until it has been loaded. To do that, I need to be notified when the image is loaded.
There is a DefaultImagePath which provides the path of an image that should be shown during loading.
But if you need a dynamic animation or other custom view, then afterImageChangeAction can be used
As you've seen, you can't do this in MvxImageView - the Action wasn't really a suitable candidate to be a bindable property so it wasn't exposed as a property.
However, you can:
do this by using MvxImageViewLoader directly in your View - there are several samples of using this in views in the N+1 samples - https://github.com/slodge/NPlus1DaysOfMvvmCross/search?q=MvxImageViewLoader
do this by creating your own MyImageView class - it's not a big class to write - https://github.com/slodge/MvvmCross/blob/v3/Cirrious/Cirrious.MvvmCross.Binding.Touch/Views/MvxImageView.cs
As an alternative to using the Action callback, you can also inherit from MvxBaseImageViewLoader<T> and provide an override for the ImageHelperOnImageChanged method - see https://github.com/slodge/MvvmCross/blob/v3/Cirrious/Cirrious.MvvmCross.Binding/Views/MvxBaseImageViewLoader.cs#L49
2) Don't load old image
3) ImageCache size in (mega)bytes
The interface-driven and plugin structure of MvvmCross is defined to allow you to implement alternatives.
In the case of loading images from HTTP, there are many alternatives - you don't have to use the MvvmCross download cache for image loading.
The only docs available for the download cache plugin currently is https://github.com/slodge/MvvmCross/wiki/MvvmCross-plugins#downloadcache
For Android, some suggestions for alternative implementations are listed in: https://github.com/slodge/MvvmCross/issues/416
For iOS, it may be useful to read https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/FileManagement/Conceptual/FileSystemProgrammingGuide/FileSystemOverview/FileSystemOverview.html including the section on <Application_Home>/Library/Caches
I know Stuart already provided an excellent answer. But what I did, when I needed the exact same feature, was to subclass MvxImageView and override the UIImageView.Image property. When the image is set I fire an event which is caught by the viewcontroller.

Flash Object to small for Security "Window"

I have made a flash as3 project in adobe flash pro with the dimensions 20px x 150px.
i would like to ceep it this size, but the problem is that my application needs to ask for the MICROPHONE premissions
( like in the image )
but this only happens if the flash object is big enough.
are there any workarounds with maybe the "overflow = visible" method or something ?
thx for any help
Here are a couple of options:
Temporarily increase the dimensions of the SWF in HTML. I've never done this, but I imagine it would work and is the most simplest solution.
Use wmode="transparent" or wmode="opaque" in your embed code. In both of these modes you can layer HTML on top of or underneath the Flash object. The SWF should be sized so that it is big enough to display the dialog. When the dialog is not visible, you can hide portions of the Flash app by covering them with HTML.
I've used the 2nd option successfully, not for this purpose, but for showing some HTML elements (arrow images and text) to guide the user through these "allow" camera/microphone dialogs.
For both of these options to work, you need to be able to detect when the user has closed the dialog. Though there is no official Flash API for doing this, however, there are some good work arounds for doing that.

FusionCharts + Prototype Modalbox + Google Chrome = Browser View Bug

I am hoping that someone can help shed some light on the underlying issue causing the bug that you see here:
As you can see, the FusionChart is incorrecly overlaying on top of the Modalbox when the it is opened. This issue only occurs in Google Chrome. All other browsers are ok.
Any ideas on the underlying issue here? And what can be done?
Last time I messed with overlaying a div on top of Flash (What is going on here) I could get it to work on all platforms except Linux. Are you using a Linux distribution? If not the solution is usually to add wmode="transparent" to the embed.
Otherwise, the only solution is to set .style.display="none"; on the FusionChart whenever the Modalbox is shown and .style.display=""; when the Modalbox is closed.
When Flash objects appear on top of every other HTML elements, it is most likely because the window mode (wMode) parameter of the Flash movie is set to "window".
In FusionCharts, one can set wMode in two ways:
A. Using .setTransparent() JavaScript function
setTransparent(false) changes the window mode to "opaque" and that solves the issue of FusionCharts appearing on top of modal windows and lightboxes.
setTransparent(true) also serves the same purpose. It sets wMode to "transparent". (Any value for wMode, except "window" would do the trick.)
Example JavaScript:
var myChart = new FusionCharts( "FusionCharts/Column3D.swf",
"myChartId", "400", "300", "0", "1" );
myChart.setXMLUrl("Data.xml");
myChart.setTransparent(false); // set wMode to opaque
myChart.render("chartContainer");
Since FusionCharts 3.2, setting setTransparent(null) restores wMode to "window" and you would NOT want to do that for your case! :)
B. Using wMode property during new FusionCharts construction
Also since FusionCharts 3.2 introduced object-style construction method, the value of wMode can be provided while doing new FusionCharts(...) itself by providing wMode: 'opaque'
