Using Komodo Edit, and trying to link HTML/CSS Files - html

I'm completely new at HTML/CSS.
I'm currently using a Mac and I don't know how to link HTML/CSS files in Komodo. Oddly enough, I cannot find anything online that explains how. Is there any one who can explain in DETAIL how to go about doing so?

You link a CSS file with a <link> tag in the <head> of your HTML file:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>My Webpage</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" />
</head>
You can find more information from the HTML Dog: Applying CSS article.

External stylesheet doesen't link

i am trying to link a stylesheet in another file. I've tried everything, copied it from multiple websites. But it doesen't seem to work. The css doesen't load any way. This is probably a really dumb mistake somewhere. Maybe it just needs another pair of eyes. The css works fine, what is causing problems is the link tag. What i noticed is, when i try to go to http://localhost:8080/styles.css it gives me Cannot GET /styles.css in plain text. I've tried modifying the permissions of the files, doesen't work. The filename is correct.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Test zabezpečení prohlížeče</title>
<link href="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/bootstrap#5.2.0/dist/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" integrity="sha384-gH2yIJqKdNHPEq0n4Mqa/HGKIhSkIHeL5AyhkYV8i59U5AR6csBvApHHNl/vI1Bx" crossorigin="anonymous">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="styles.css" type="text/css">
</head>
<body>
<h1 id="page-title">Test zabezpečení prohlížeče</h1>
</body>
</html>

Don't know why the css isn't linking?

So I'm about to start to code a website using Sublime Text, but I have not touched code in a couple of months (5-7) so I am trying to get used to it again. So I have created my HTML and CSS page, but even though the CSS link is right, it is not displaying in browser. I know once you tell me I will be kicking myself but why is it not showing up?
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="home.css">
<title>Home</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>GymHub</h1>
</body>
</html>
Your code assumes that your folder structure is like this (where your css file is a sibling to the html):
index.html
home.css
However, make sure that if your project setup is in a way that your css is in a folder, you should reflect that in the code:
index.html
-- css
home.css
And you would then put this in your html file:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/css/home.css">
you have to create a root-directory with the exact adress of the css file , but maybe its because you forgot to make a backslash at the end of the link ( i am not sure )
You are missing the slash in link tag. Try this. Also make sure css file is in same directory.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="home.css"/>
<title>Home</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>GymHub</h1>
</body>
</html>

Can someone please tell me why my css won't link with html? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong?

I named my css file newstyle.css
Any change that I make to the css style sheet in sublime text won't show up when I look at the webpage.
How can I make sure my link works?
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Ana Yasmeen </title>
<link href="css/newstyle.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" />
</head>
<body>
Your tag looks good so check your link to your css file ie, yourlocalwebsite.com/css/newstyle.css should list your css styles, otherwise the link is wrong and you need to rewrite it to the correct path.

CSS Not Taking Effect on Page

I'm a new web design student and I just learned about Cascading Style sheets and how to link them externally; however, I'm encountering a problem. I have the file linked in my <head> with no problem and the file directory is correct, but my changes are not showing up. If I had a <style> tag or attribute then my CSS works, but not from the external file. Any help?
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Protein Structures</title>
<link href="styles/main.css">
</head>
I make this same mistake when I'm in a rush. The problem is, you're linking the file correctly, but the browser doesn't know how to interpret the file. Is it a stylesheet, icon, alternate stylesheet? You need to add the rel attribute and set it equal to stylesheet.
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="styles/main.css">
I'm not sure if type="text/css" is still mandatory. I know that when doing Javascript you don't have to have type="text/javascript".
Here's a good link explaining why.
You need to add what the relationship of the link is. Change your <link> tag to:
<link href="styles/main.css" rel="stylesheet">
You might want to take a look at the documentation for link types to understand why the rel is necessary.
try this i hope this is working.
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="styles/main.css" media="all">

html not linking css

I'm having an issue with linking html and Css and have no idea why. I'm doing everything like the book and tutorials says. However, I'm not getting to do the external configuration of css.
This is the code(just a test):
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang = "eng">
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0">
<title>title</title>
<meta name="description" content="">
<meta name="keywords" content="">
<link rel="stylesheets" type="text/css" href="/styles.css">
</head>
<body>
<h1>test</h1>
</body>
</html>
and CSS:
body {
background-color:#CCCCCC;
}
h1 {
color:#0000EE;
}
Maybe I miss something, because when I do internal css (within my html code with ) it goes ok and the web browser is able to read that. It seems like the html is not linked with css, but it's even on the same folder so the path shouldn't be the problem.
I'm using Linux and Aptana Studio.
I've searched a lot the last 2 hours and cannot find where the mistake is.
I invite you to read this article Absolute and Relative Paths
Then we pass to your code:
<link rel="stylesheets" type="text/css" href="/styles.css">
Should be :
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="styles.css">
Your styles.css should be in the same folder as your html file.
To verify that you have an error , check Console of your browser,you will be noticed that your file doesn't exist(404 error).
An other way to make your css working is to integrate it inside your page without separation:
Example:
<style type='text/css'>
body {
background-color:#CCCCCC;
}
h1 {
color:#0000EE;
}
</style>
If the other suggestions don't work, you can try re-saving the HTML and CSS sheets with "UTF-8" encoding and declare UTF-8 encoding in the HTML under the <head> with <meta charset="utf-8>"
The rel attribute should just have stylesheet in it, singular not plural as well
I had the same problem correct the correct directory structure solved my problem. This is a good visualiton on how to organize your directory structure.
http://rosebusch.net/jeff/miscellaneous/tree.html
That is, the index.html folder is on the same level as the CSS folder. If you want to put index.html in a HTML folder, to link to the CSS folder you would have to backout first by linking href="../css/stylesheet.css". The ".." will take you up a level.
Make sure style.css is in your root web directory since that is where you are calling it from
Don't put the / in front of styles.css and make sure they are in the same folder.
Try this instead:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<!-- Language was wrong? -->
<html lang = "en">
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0">
<title>title</title>
<meta name="description" content="">
<meta name="keywords" content="">
<!-- Check the path to the file - I made it relative to where the HTML is -->
<!-- Correct the rel attribute's value too -->
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./styles.css">
</head>
<body>
<h1>test</h1>
</body>
</html>
If all the above not working:
1- Make sure you have no inline/internal CSS > Delete all style code from the Html page (it ll prevent external css link)
If your CSS file are in another folder then use
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="folder-name/styles.css">
I found out while Using Visual Studio Code and adding quotes that it was quoting automatically. So when I put in quotes and looked in the index.html of the index it was quoting the quotes (Bad News). Try link
<href=FILENAME.css rel=stylesheet type=text/css />
Hope this works! Also, if you want Multiple CSS files, organize them in a folder, if you do so in FILENAME put /FOLDERNAME/FILENAME.css
BUT make SURE it is under the main folder where your Index is!
just try tasking off the / in front of the style.css
Place your link in the head tag or body tag, it is best to put it in the head tag.
