How to build a digital map for a building? - google-maps

I am required to build a digital indoor map for my school building. I need this to help provide indoor localization for the building. The map has to be in kml format.
I am not able to figure out a way to build the map digitally. All i can think of is draw/connect geo-codes that can shape the indoor plan in google earth.
If any body could share their opinions.. I would be grateful!!!

One option is to use a ground overlay within the maps api. Then you can create an image of your floor plan and then overlay it on your map. The corresponding KML element to use is GroundOverlay.

Have you checked out Google SketchUp? It allows you to model buildings, save as KML and display in Google Earth.

Add some drawing on a map and map it's streets

I would like to use a layer on top of a google map and map the streets on this layer.
Specifically - I have autocad design and would like to implement it somehow into a map, using tiles (maybe MBTiles) and provide info on the design.
I'm familiar with google maps but not on how I can add this layer and information. I don't want to create polygons and polylines in code - I want to use to vector design, place it on the map and add data like street names and such.
How would I approach this?
I'm thinking you'll need to use AutoCAD Map 3D or AutoCAD Civil 3D to extract the layer as a shape file which you can then use with Google Maps.

Google Maps marker drop on building not street

I'm currently making a custom map using the Google Maps API. So far I have inserted a kml layer using geoXml3, and have written the code to determine if the location of the marker (dropped by an autocomplete address search) is contained within the kml boundary.
Unfortunately I seemed to forget that the marker drops on the street outside the building, not the building itself. This is important as the kml layer is over buildings, and doesn't bleed on to the street.
Is there a way to get the marker to drop on the building instead of the street? If not, are there any alternative ways I could complete what I'm trying to achieve?
Cheers.

Is there a Pay or Open Source World Map web widget that is larger than 440x220 and allows the water to be black?

For a project I just completed, I needed to show the winning selection of a poll in each country. Ultimately we used Google Charts API, because the other Google World Map products did not allow the color of the water to be customized. In this project the water needs be black so it blends with the web page it's on. The only problem with the Charts API version is that it's max size is 440x220.
I've been searching the internet for a while and I've been unable to find a better, larger more customizable World Map product.
Is there a larger than 440x220 World Map product, for pay or open source, that allows me to set the color of the water so that it blends seamlessly with the web page it's on?
The OpenStreetMap project has both web and application map producers, and you have no restriction on the size of the display map nor on the styline. Check out their wiki to get you started.
If you like the offerings by Google in general, have you seen the option for a maps visualization using Fusion Tables? Also, there is a May blog posting describing using Fusion Tables with dynamic styling that could be relevant.
I wrote a tool to create SVG maps : Make a clickable map which also has a world map
that you can customize to your liking: Create a world map using Makeaclickablemap
Hope this will help you or any other folks who are after a customizable world map!

Google Maps - Online Map Marker to mark polygons and shapes onto the map

I'm looking looking for a tool that will allow me to make a map exactly like this:
http://datasearch.uts.edu.au/about/mapsdirections/map.cfm
Basically I need to put shapes around buildings in the satellite view and then slap a marker and information window on them so that I can specify the building name and contents.
So the main issue is that I need the ability to draw shapes directly onto the maps as I don't fancy taking down the lat lng of each corner of the polygon.
Ideally what I'd like to do is have an online application that exports those points to KML, and then I would display google maps on my site and import that kml to display it.
Other suggestions welcome!

Found a polygon creator
http://www.the-di-lab.com/polygon/
It's simple to use and allows you to copy and paste straight into your code. Would be nice if it had a button that said sent to kml though..

Google maps api styled map with satellite water

I am using google maps API V3 to create a styled map where I am using custom colors. I am wondering if it is possible to use the satellite image of the water while using a custom style on the land. I.e. I'd like the water to be the satellite image while the land will be a custom solid color. Right now I can give the land and the water a custom color, but I'm wondering if I can assign the water styling somehow to come from the satellite imagery.
I don't think this is possible from digging through the API but just making sure I didn't miss anything.
Unfortunately at the moment that is not possible. The Google Styled Maps cannot be applied to map types other than the default ROADMAP type. This was confirmed by a Google Employee on the mailing list on May 31st 2010:
Google Maps API v3 Re: Using Styled Maps with TERRAIN map type?
... We don't currently support styling other map types, because we can not
recolour the base imagery right now...
