Problem rotating image with MOUSE_MOVE - actionscript-3

Hey gang. Stumped on something.
I have a disc I am rotating with the mouse with event.MOUSE_MOVE, like a jog wheel on some audio equipment. Everything almost works as expected, but the problem I am experiencing is that the disc always jumps to the point where the user clicks on the disc. I need the point on the disc that the user clicks on to remain under the mouse while the user spins the disc but I can't seem to come up with the correct math to make it happen. Here's the code i am using:

_knob is a vector circle wrapped in a movieclip, with the circle centered on the movieclip's reg point. _stageRef represents the main stage.
Any help would be awesome. I've scoured the interweb and can't come up with anything.

You are setting _knob rotation to the angle between _knob and mouse cursor. So if rotation was 0, and angle 45, rotation becomes 45, therefore it jumps. What you need is measure changes in this angle, not setting it instantly:

How to shoot on angles with rotating Movie Clip?

Hey everyone so I am having some trouble with this. So I have an Array of Barrel Movie clips that are added to the stage and a movie clip called Circle that when comes in contact with any of the barrels in the array the barrel that it is currently hittesting starts to rotate. It rotates on its registration point which is centered. So in my ENTER_FRAME event is where I have everything setup for the barrel to rotate and hit Test etc...
This is how the circle is added to the barrels:

Now what I am trying to accomplish is when the user taps the screen the circle Movie clip is shot from the Barrel. Right now I have the circle shooting from the barrel in the angle that its supposed to shoot but instead of going in a straight line from the angle it shoots it shoots and starts to curve really quickly in the clockwise position that the barrel is rotating in.
Here is the code I have that is sort of working besides that one problem:

I know that I need sin and cos to calculate the angle correct? Is the math wrong? Why is the circle curving when the circle shoots from the globalFirePoint? What can I do to make it go in a straight line?

Does globalFirePoint change on each ENTER_FRAME event? If so then the calculated angle is going to change as well, leading to the curve you are experiencing.
One way to fix this is to only calculate globalFirePoint when the user presses the screen. Then on every ENTER_FRAME event instead of re-calculating globalFirePoint, use the already calculated globalFirePoint that won't change unless the user presses the screen when the circle is in a barrel.
You should only calculate the angle when the user presses the screen as well. There is no need to calculate it on every ENTER_FRAME event, since the only time you're interested in the angle is when the circle is shot from a barrel.

Strange stability issues with Matrix scale/rotation in Actionscript

I have a Flash app where I am performing a scale and rotation operation about the center of _background:MovieClip (representing a page of a book). I have simple event listeners on the GESTURE_ROTATE and GESTURE_SCALE events of this MC which update some variables currentRotation and currentScaleX, currentScaleY. I then have the following code trigger on the ENTER_FRAME event of the app.
The problem I am encountering is upon rotating the MC beyond the limits of roughly 60 or -60 degrees, or scaling slightly and rotating, the MC begins to oscillate and finally spin wildly out of control and off the screen. I've tried several things to debug it, and even tried Math.flooring the currentRotationValue and rounding the values of currentScaleX/Y to the tenths place (Math.floor(currentScale * 10) / 10), but neither of these seems to remedy it. I'm a little stuck at this point and have tried researching as much as I can, but couldn't find anything. Any suggestions? Is there an issue with doing this operation on each frame perhaps?

I'm not certain what behaviour you're trying to produce, but I think the problem is that centerX and centerY define the middle of _background in _background.parent's coordinate space. You're then translating the matrix so that _background is rotated around the values centerX, centerY, but in _background's coordinate space.
Assuming you want _background to rotate around a point which remains static on screen, what you actually need to do is use two different Points:

matrix.rotate(currentRotation / 180) * Math.PI);
matrix.scale(currentScaleX, currentScaleY);
matrix.translate(_centerOnPoint.x, _centerOnPoint.y);
Where _rotateAroundPoint is the point around which _background should turn in it's own coordinate space, and _centerOnPoint is the point around which it should turn in its parent's coordinate space.
Both of those values only need to be recalculated when you want to pan _background, rather than every frame. For example:

AS 3 simple ease

How can I move an object and be able to physically see it when it is moving? Not just disappear and appear on a different location like it would be using the following code.

This is going to move myObject to any location specified, but again I want to be able to see it when moving.
In your example you are just setting it's X position when some button is pressed, when you need to change X into an EnterFrame event, like this:

Your box_mc should move left 5 pixels accordingly with your framerate.
You can use a easing library to that easily. I strongly recommend TweenMax.
Okay I am getting a bit sick of people constantly suggesting some tweening engine. Sure they rock, but it won't help the OP to understand what he is doing.
Kircho to move an object with a really easy tween I suggest the following code in an onEnterFrame event for your object to move:

you can add a few more lines to snap the position when it is close (less than 0.1 difference) or use a more linear change where you adjust incrementally like box_mc.x += 5; until it matches the dest number

AS3: Sprite following a Path in high speed

First of all sorry for some english mistakes. Portuguese is my first language(I am from Brazil)
Im trying to make a space game from scratch in AS3 and the way to move the ship is like in the game Air Traffic Chief.
I succeed at some point. But when the ship is very fast it start to shake and its not very smooth and clean as I want.

As the code is very big i will try to clarify here.
When the user MouseDown and MouseMove the ship every coordinate is passed to an array.
When the user MouseUP this array is passed to a function that fix the array.
For example: If the distance between two coordinates is greater than 5px, the function creates a coordinate in the middle of the two coordinates.
if I take this function off the problem seen to be solved. But if the user move the mouse very slow it still happens. It also creates a problem that i was trying to solve with that function. as the distance of the two coordinates are very big when the ship arrive in one coordinate most of the line path disappear.

I think there is 2 ways for solving this problem
1- Try to fix the noise in the array of coordinates 2- Take off the function that create an coordinate between two points and try to fix the problem of the line path disappear.

Every time the ship arrive in one coordinate is take that coordinate off the array and redraw the array.
Is there a better way of doing that?
I believe if you set your registration point of the plane to the centre and use .snapto(path), it will improve the action.
Judging from just the look of the stuttering, I would guess you need to smooth out the "line" a fair bit. It's probably picking up a lot of noise in the line, which is then translated into the rotation of the plane. Either smooth out the rotation/position of the plane, or the line itself.

AS3 - Finding the Y position of a rotated object if X is known

I am trying to find out the Y position of a rotated object on stage, when only the X position is known. I am not extremely formiliar with how I'd go about doing this, but I know it'll be related to the Rotation of the border object.
What I need to do is know that based on the below X position that is worked out, what the exact maximum Y position can be before it hits the black border that is onscreen. I know that the original position is 280, but I am not sure at all how I then work out what the Y position is further down the line.
I have attached the code to find the X (all be it, it doesn't take into account any rotation as on this level it isn't needed), as well as a screenshot so you can understand clearly.

I'm not entirely sure on your question but hopefully these suggestions will help:
You can use the localToGlobal() function on a display object to return a rotated, translated, and scaled point within that display container to the stage. Example, $p:Point = myMovieClip.localToGlobal(new Point(10, 10));
A Matrix is also a nice and easy way to rotate a point. Example, var $mtx:Matrix = new Matrix(); $mtx.tx = 10; $mtx.ty = 10; $mtx.rotate(); and now $mtx.tx and $mtx.ty have the rotated result
Those probably won't answer your question, but I figured I'd mention them just in case and before I get into something more complex. Like wvxvw said you can't really solve the equation you're trying to do without some other variables. I wrote some code that shows how to find Y when comparing X to a point in a line segment:

I'm not sure if I'm answering the right question, because as you worded it, it's impossible to solve, or rather you would have to accept that Y can be just anything... (In order to be able to find a point in a vector space over R^2 you need a basis of two vectors of a form (x,y), but you only have a vector in R^1).
But it looks like you want to find an intersection of the "black line on the screen" - i.e. an arbitrary line and a vertical line through the lowest point of the "shape" which you want to fit. It's hard to tell from the question, what shape are you trying to fit, but if it is a rectangle, which is not rotated, then it would be either its bottom right or bottom left corner. You can then find which point to choose by comparing the angle between a horizontal line and the "black line" and the horizontal line and the bottom of the rectangle.
Next, you would need to find an intersection between these two lines, the formula can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_intersection
